Bologna – Villa; Europa league

I think I’m going to start this post with a warning.

It’s 100% contoversial, negative and thoroughly depressing.

I care that little I’ve even got the fixture the wrong way round.

So if you don’t want to hear that, just stop now and move along. There’s nothing for you to see.

So I received an Email from the club this afternoon entitled “It’s matchday in the Europa league”

And do you know what my honest thought was? “I really couldn’t care less”.

And I’m sorry, but that’s about the truth of it. I watched Braga vs Feyenoord last night and all the way through I found myself thinking that both of them will probably beat us. You know why? They play with pace, passion and belief. And overall confidence.

Whereas we seem totally devoid of all those attributes at the moment. By far my biggest priority is Premier league survival. Am I going way over the top? I honestly don’t think so. Apparently Emery has had similar runs to the load of rubbish we’ve witnessed up to now, before.

Great and that’s okay then. Except I honestly think we’ve looked so poor and just miles off it, that I am seriously worried about our survival. You name it and everything that was good about our displays has totally disappeared. And the thing is I’m really not sure Emery can turn it around.

We can’t even go out and get a bit of quality to boost the squad in the winter window either, by the look of it.

Anyway, so much for my totally depressing thinking.

Squad news and I can’t find any.

No, Villa, I don’t want to watch a bloody video. What’s wrong with putting it in print, as per normal?

You know something? I’m not even sure I’m going to bother watching it.

The football will probably be utter junk, after all and if the team can’t be bothered, why should I?

Okay, I’m lying. I 99% won’t be able to resist.

Am I predicting a win?

I’m certainly not expecting one, as much as we beat them 2-0 without any serious problem last season.

I’ll go for a narrow win and it’s more in hope than anything.

Come on Villa, give us something to smile about, eh?

A 1-0 Villa win.

UTV!

  1. Oh man, Rogers again.
I’m honestly struggling to think of another performance on a par.
He’s just gives it away almost every time.
Surely Emery can’t keep leaving him in the spotlight after this?

  2. Well we won but it wasn’t exactly impressive. Digne with two dickhead challenges late on could have cost us.
Fulham up next and they are a better team than Bologna for sure.
I dare say Emery has already penned Rogers name on the team sheet.
Watkins needs to stay on the bench but I’m not convinced with Malen as a number 9. You would think Guessand would have more presence with his size to play down the middle but he hasn’t impressed me too much either.

  3. Mings will be back
    Watkins will start up front
I’d bring in Elliot and Sancho and play Matsaan , him and Sancho all be it against 10 men last week linked up well
    last weekend
Rodger’s , Wow , England Int , there is hope for any English player who cannot pass to a shirt in the same colours
    Drop him

  4. I thought Malden did well taking the long kick. He didn’t rush in to head. He always seemed to make the first touch and then follow up.

I like the look of Guessand and he is growing each game.

Watkins has never been a penalty taker.

Cash continues to put in decent performances.

I called Rogers early On a couple of seasons ago as a player with real potential. But he is out of form and needs time in the bench.

Bizot – good back up keeper. Great save at the end.

    And we won – hurray.

  5. On another note. The BBC have the attendance at Villa Park as 30,909. I think the pricing left by the Heck regime needs addressing.

  6. After a sleep and on reflection, seeing that game, I’m still worried that Unia is either on another planet than me or blinded. I know I go on about Rodgers, and to be fair, the player does have the strength and ability to be good enough for Villa. It’s up to the manager to find out what the problem is, With the honours he’s been gifted with young player of the year, plays for England there’s got to be a reason why suddenly his talent drops to zero in games, also why has Emery sidelined Elliot? Unless he’s unable to play him in cups or competitions on loan but we needed him last night, why didn’t he. I’m not sure we will improve on Sundays game with Fulham but we need to start winning league games. I’m still a massive Villa fan even if I moan a lot .

  7. Everyone is saying the same thing about Chesty. He needs a rest. It sounded like a half decent game last night. Maybe a bit more than half. Chuffed for our Captain. Apparently he and Bouby were rock solid. Not going to say a SINGLE THING about the penalty miss.
Well done Badger for predicting the score! 3 points against one of the best teams in this competition. I notice Bologna were in the CL with us last year. Were they robbed in the final game of last season by a dodgy refereeing decision too?

    1. Yes, he definitely needs to be taken out of the picture to get his head right.
It’s not like he isn’t trying, but his stats were shocking. I think his pass completion was 42% and he won less than a third of his duels.

As for the game, I thought it was better, but not great. We played with better intensity and they were definitely all trying.
McGinn and Kamara stood out and Konsa was okay too. Buendia isn’t good enough and Malen needs more games, I reckon, as does Guessand

      As for Watkins (shakes head).

      1. May I make a recommendation to both Ollie and Chesty? Find a nice quiet pub or bar away from everyone, sit in the corner together and get absolutely blathered. Totally wasted. So much you can barely stand up. Laugh. Joke. Take the piss and try and let go of some of the stresses that both of you are obviously facing with the problems in your respective games. Let it all go. Go over the remarkable joint contributions you have made for each other over the past however long… Then, nurse your hangovers, have a couple of days away from the training ground, then get back to work.

        1. I would suggest more time on the training ground learning how to pass to each other and shooting practice too.
Also I don’t get the criticism of Buendia. A few people I spoke to who were at the game yesterday said the crowd couldn’t understand taking him off and leaving Rogers on.

          1. It’s a mental thing though. They need to disconnect to reconnect.

Any thoughts on Sunday, boys????? I hate to say it, but I fear another draw…

          2. Holte, you’re not alone. A lot of fans love him and I admit he looks good. Works hard too.
But I’m firmly in OLL’s camp. He ultimately offers next to nothing.
            No end product.

  8. Hey, I did warn you as to what was coming. If you don’t like it you don’t have to read.
Oh, there’s deliberately no advertising on this site. Any more links to your website and you will be removed.
You probably don’t like that either, but hey ho.

As for the colourful language, you have obviously never been to a British game of football and know nothing about it.
As for a generation, it’s been that way for many decades.

  9. Holte, he’s a bit lightweight good skills through and when in form good shots on him, I reckon he should have taken that pen because I’ve seen some of his deliveries hit the mark. Getting back to Watkins and Rodger’s would you think it’s something to do with Ramsey going and it’s hit them thinking 🤔 could this happen to them?. one day, maybe it’s rattled all of them in someways just a thought, Sunday we should see a change in attitude and gameplay I hope .

    1. I agree that Buendia is lightweight although Foden does okay, plus football these days is a non contact sport, that sometimes it helps to be smaller to get free kicks. I would definitely back him to score a penalty, but he wasn’t on the pitch when Watkins was upended. My point about Buendia, is that like McGinn, he will give 100% effort, which I’m not seeing from Rogers or Watkins. However if they don’t perform, then eventually they will be out of the England squad with a World Cup next summer. Surely that’s the motivation unless they think they can get a move in January.
I think the best we can hope for on Sunday is a draw although I think we will lose by the odd goal. This game is more important than Thursday IMO, and anything but a win will maintain the pressure on Emery.

  10. The American just wrote a comment, slagging me, people commenting and everything else while trying to advertise his site after I told him not to.
    He’s been blocked.

Oh and if you read this mate.
While us British football fans might swear a lot when we’re talking footy, we at least have manners.
While you sir, are a total dickhead, with the manners of a pig.

  11. It seems Malen is the no 1 designated pen taker when he’s on the pitch, according to John Mcginn.

In other news, Rogers is apparently not interested anymore, as the club blocked any talks with Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea. He’s also apparently one of the lowest paid players and isn’t happy with that either. There’s talk of a new contract, with wages above £150k a week. Big jump from his rumoured £37k a week.

It would explain a lot, I guess.

    1. If, and I say IF that is true, then the kid is nothing more than a turd.
Palace. Brighton. Sunderland all win against the odds. Things are just weird. It would also explain a couple of our defeats.

  12. Badger thought problems were the root of our games, if true and I’m bloody sure it is, again it’s down to management the finger might point towards Monchi more than Unia, it’s morally wrong that players do that to a club as it’s the supporters that are the losers for what’s going on. I would hazard a guess that Watkins might fall into the same feelings Rodger has. I’ve never believed there should be a wage gap among players playing for a club; all should receive the same to ensure a happy ship. Getting back on today’s game my eyes will be on the attitude of all players knowing of unrest in that dressing room. Come on Villa give us a win there nothing more seeing your club stuffing the opposition. Utv.

  13. If Chesty is on £37k, then it only makes sense to pay him appropriately. Money is not always a motivator but it sure hacks you off if you’re not being paid what you’re worth.
If he is moaning about not being allowed to speak to other clubs, then the the boy is trouble. That would be incredibly disrespectful.
