I spent literally four or five hours on Sunday, trying to post something saying how chuffed I was that we’d got another win, but I had to concede defeat against the chronic internet over here.
I’m now on a paid-for connection and whilst it’s still poor, it does at least work sometimes hence I’ll try again.
So no doubt I was as elated as it seems most of you were, but I still had the overwhelming feeling that it’s too little, too late.
Never mind though, as it isn’t yet impossible that we might survive and Garde is saying the right sort of positive things, even though he must be gutted at the lack of support last week.
It’s a shame really, as without looking, we must have moved up the form table a fair way, something that has to be seen as a major positive, given that we’ve been bottom for so long.
Going back to the game for a minute, I couldn’t have got it more wrong, could I?
A set piece goal, Gabby scoring and win too!
Seeing as I got the Palace game wrong too, I think I might start predicting us to lose more often.
There’s not a fat lot in the news from what I’ve seen, but the stories about Garde doing one at the end of the season seem to have died down.
I’ve still to make my mind up about him overall, but as I’ve previously said, I don’t believe he’s the man to keep us up because he doesn’t seem to be the big motivator type to me.
That said, he doesn’t strike me as the “yes man” the board were probably hoping for either and he’s certainly ruffled some feathers. Let’s face it, anyone who can get Gabby in to actually score a goal can’t be all bad can he?
And while I don’t think Garde will keep us up this season, I’m very much coming round to the fact that he might just be the bloke who can actually manage the club when we do go down.
And no, that’s not just based on the back of a win against a dire Norwich side.
It’s based more around what I see as a man who very much knows how to handle himself.
He has something about him; an assured man, who knows what he wants and doesn’t panic in his thinking.
I think the way he reacted to the West Ham defeat proved that, after all the speculation about him resigning and the Ayew debacle.
I’m very much sticking my neck on the line here, as the following might well haunt me for years, but do you know who he reminds me of?
Alex Ferguson or even Arsene Wenger.
Take your pick, as either will do for me.
Feel free to mock me, as that’s what it’s all about.
But I definately feel this bloke is the best/only chance we’ve got amongst a hierarchy that doesn’t have a clue.
Oh and Happy New Year!, if indeed we have any Chinese readers lurking in the background (I wonder how that push at China has gone? No doubt another failure, imo).
Our brave heroics at the baggies don’t look so good now what a shite team, some thought a point was a good result, yet remi never tried to win it didn’t push center halves up front
Too true Jvillan. Everyone keeps talking about emulating Leicester of last season. Difference is they went “shit or bust” and had a real go every game. They got a couple of wins and the confidence to keep on the offensive. We don’t play that way. Liverpools biggest weakness is their defence. We won’t attack them for fear of their offensive abilities to counter attack us. We will try to contain them and just get beaten without really offering anything. Hope I’m wrong.
Can’t see us beating Liverpool a draw at Best Buy think they will win 2.0
Should of won that game they were there for the taking
Don’t get this ’emulating Leicester’ thing. There’s zero chance of us staying up. The Foxes had Vardy, Mahrez and Konte playing their socks off (and they can really play) who have we got that can even come close? Absolutely no-one.
I’m with H60 when he said that it’s next season that we need to worry about. This one’s as good as over.
I don’t get why Pat’s post gets 3 dislikes when he’s only telling it as it is. Optimism and hope are great but it needs tempering with some realism.
I would love us to deny the odds but we just don’t have the class of striker needed to get the wins we have to secure to stay up.
As Reacher says – ‘hope for the best, plan for the worst’ – must be because Lee Childs is a big Villa fan 🙂
Like and dislike are not always opinions, they just reflect how we feel about what people are saying about our football team. Are supporters, specially Villa supporters not the biggest dreamers in the world. If we were at the other end of the table and it was possible to win the league or qualify for Europe we would be wetting ourselves at the thought of mathamatical miracles
Not too upset about the ‘dislikes’. Some fans are still hoping and good for them but I can’t. I’ve found hoping too hard on the nerves.
However I find myself glad that Remi is still hoping. From today’s news conference –
‘Some quotes from Remi Garde, and he is not too happy with his side, despite their 2-0 win over Norwich City last time out.
“The way we played against Norwich didn’t please me. We need to improve to earn more points,” says the Aston Villa manager.’
Good on you Remi
Dosnt matter how we play now it’s all about the result. If we play shit tomorrow and fluke a 1.0 deflected goal that’ll do me
According to BBC, Garde is talking up Shabby. Looks like news of his demise is premature!
What else could REMI say hitch?? he’s not part of my plans I don’t rate him now get out there & perform.
Agreed Giddy and in the circumstances of having no strikers (which – as one wag put it – includes Shabby) you are right. I was making reference to reports that he was about to depart for fields new which was eagerly seized upon by many fans including me.
However, given that Garde has shown no compunction to diss NZog, it seems to me, reading his comments that either he’s had a rethink or Shabby has realised he has to keep his mouth shut and get on with his job?
Isn’t NZOG out of contract in the summer??he’s finished however desperate we are, unless REMI has been told from higher places to involve shabby more I’m at a loss because I’m sure he’s finished & the club will have to pay him off bad business or what??
He has to talk him up at the end of the day he’s all we’ve got which is why we are in this mess
To be honest Gabby is our only option.
Ayew looks a treat but his head wonders, Gestede is off the pace and one dimensional, and Kozak is forever injured. Anything we or Garde can say or do to get Gabby in some sort of form I will take it.
Like u say we havnt really got a choice. Plus Gabby did score last week which may give him a confidence boost. Unlikely though
