There has been a little bit of transfer news regarding Aston Villa this week, many tabloids claim that Aston Villa will return with another bid for Kuban Krasnodar midfielder Popov. Aston Villa were linked with Popov in June and apparently Popov was keen on a move to Villa Park with terms agreed between the club and player. However, Aston Villa failed to agree a transfer fee with Kuban Krasnodar. The club were holding out for a bid around £8m, Aston Villa offered around £4.8m for the attacking midfielder.
Aston Villa will face competition from PSV, FC Twente and Feyenoord all interested in the attacking midfielder.
The fans were begging Lambert to sign an attacking midfielder and, if these reports are in fact true, he was close to delivring. Popov had a fantastic season last year at the Russian club. He would add some creativity to our side and even make our midfield a bit more potent while in attack.
Hopefully Aston Villa return for Popov because this is the type of player we need in our club.
