Aston Villa and Liverpool Agree Deal for Benteke

Talksport has published an article claiming that Aston Villa and Liverpool have reached an agreement over the transfer of Christian Benteke. Yesterday it was rumoured that Benteke would prefer to move to Liverpool over Tottenham.

“My understanding is Christian Benteke, who has been on their radar for some time, is very close indeed to signing for Liverpool.

“I expect him to sign if not today then certainly in the not too distant future. Liverpool have done their work and have sealed a deal [with Aston Villa].” – Anfield insider Graham Beecroft

There has been no mention regarding what kind of fee has been agreed, whether or not Liverpool have matched Benteke’s buyout clause or if Aston Villa have agreed on a player plus cash agreement. There will probably be more news on the subject in the next 48 hours but this will probably mark an end of an era with Benteke. Benteke will definitely go into Villa’s history books as one of our best ever strikers and if Liverpool did match Benteke’s buyout clause he would also become our biggest ever sale as a football club.

  1. True mate…we are fucked unless he loosens the purse strings!

    1. Not a hope MATE I can’t see any new owner coming in this transfer window,by the next one possibly.

What I find interesting is you’re making it sound like these are the only players we’re getting. Wilkins admitted we have money, just that we can’t compete with the top 4-6.

      1. No the price range is the gripe.

        1. Andrew avatar

Oh so if we spent 10m on Boilesen you’d be happy because of his price tag, not his talent? I get it.

          1. We wouldn’t spend that much so what’s the point discussing a players talent.

I was happy with Richards and he cost nothing. Think he’s a good player as long as he stays fit.

Andrew, Wilkins is just coming out with the usual bollocks that all new-comers to any club come out with.

That statement means absolutely nothing, so why mention it?
It could even apply to me, with my few hundred quid I might be able to spare on the right player.

This all depends on whether you believe the press. We must have bid for about 10-12 players by now if the press are to be believed.
If you take loads of punts you will be right at some point.
    Pure speculation and bollocks.

  3. I’m not asking for 12 – 20 mil signings, just proven players x 4 in the 6-8 mil bracket. Keep Benteke and Delph and I will be happy. Its not too much to ask for is it?

Andrew…I dont mind risking a couple from the ‘bargain basement’ to integrate with proven players, in fact I’m all for that. Some of the ones I have listed above may have turned out to be decent PL players with quality around them. But no, we threw them in at the deep end and flirted with relegation. We may have dented their confidence as well, which is totally unfair on them!

    1. Andrew avatar

I agree, but the fact is today is the opening of the transfer window, you’re getting upset because of a few links to players that may or may not happen, but we have 2 months to go still. We could very well spend 50m this summer for all we know, but just because we’re linked to some good youth doesn’t mean its the end of our season already.

  4. Andrew…I hope your right, but I have doubts!

    1. It’s all rumours he’s still featured on twitter modelling the new kit.

    2. Andrew avatar

I hope I’m right too, all I know is Wilkins said we have money, we just can’t match the top 6 yet and our commercial officer said they’re doing everything they can to bring in the revenue to do so, so I do have hope that we will eventually, it’s just not going to be this season, or probably for a few more. But we’ll see better signings than under Lambert who was just clueless.

Andrew, this is the problem, that I don’t believe you see.
How can anyone improve our income if we have nothing to sell anyone?

The Prem is becoming more and more like a business everyday.
So who’s going to buy into a club that has been failing and shows no sign that it will do any better in the future?

The club HAS to invest, if it’s to be viewed as a better prospect.

While I’m still in the frying pan and fire camp, something has to change.

  5. Let’s get him out of the door and quick.

    And then start rebuilding.

Read today that Stoke are buying Shaqiri from Milan. That is the calibre of player we should be after, never mind F***ing Burnley and Hull players.

One day into the transfer market window and I’m already bricking it. Time will tell though, Sherwood needs to pull something out of the bag, or we are
    Down for sure this season.

Thank him for the goals, wish him the best and move on. Nobody likes a transfer saga, get it sorted and use the funds wisely. There will be more Benteke’s on the continent wanting to ply their trade in the premier league. Even Austin at £15m would be good business as he’s got a great goal tally at all his clubs.

The Liverpool link surprises me though as they’ll have to change their style to accommodate him. Their last big hit man (Andy Carroll) wasn’t really a success.

    1. Badger123 avatar
      Badger123

Fastjet81, you sound just like a Pool fan.
Benteke isn’t just a big hit man, as you should know, even though he’s good at it 🙂
There’s more to him than that and to compare him to the donkey that is Carroll, well…….

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

And they paid 30 plus million for carol ffs

  7. fastjet81 avatar
    fastjet81

Haha, yeah maybe I was pushing it, but you get the gist. Good in the air, presence up front etc. There game is all about movement running into channels/inter changing positions, just don’t really see the fit.

    1. Badger123 avatar
      Badger123

Whereas one of their golden oldies (I forget who) thinks he’ll be a great fit.
For me, he gives Pool massive options, in that provide him the service (Pool create loads of chances, but can’t finish) and he’ll get goals.

      It’s all about opinions 🙂

  8. So we’ve agreed a fee with Lille for Idrissa Gueye. Believed to be 9 million. No doubt he’ll get slagged off on here before the ink is even dry on the contract should he sign.

    1. Badger123 avatar
      Badger123

      I doubt it, B6.

I think it’s just that many think it won’t happen.

Fwiw, I don’t know anything about the player.
If he’s actually done something substantial, I suspect he’d be welcomed.

      1. You doubt what Badger?

        1. Badger123 avatar
          Badger123

I doubt he’d be slagged mate.
The Villa spending £9 mill on a player would be a massive story and about as big a sign of intent as we could get.
Hence it isn’t going to happen, imo.

          But let’s see.

          1. ifiruledtheworld avatar
            ifiruledtheworld

He’s due in Birmingham for talks over his contract tomorrow. I wonder how much we’ll put on his release clause if he signs :p

          2. Darren avatar

Yep coming in tomorrow for talks and a medical according to sky news

          3. Some tend to judge before a ball is even kicked Badger, but then some are stuck with that mindset where they just love to criticise and moan.

I don’t think Sherwood would of ever took the job without reassurances. I don’t think Wilkins, who for me is a wonderful bit of business, would of joined us and neither do I think Richards would of signed to be fighting relegation every season. Add that to Lambert saying we’re now in a better financial position than we have been for a long time (he said it on a sky sports interview a month or so ago) and I think a few may be surprised on how much we do actually spend in this window.

            1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
              OohAhPaulMcGrath

So last season and the season before when we all judged we would be shit we were wrong then? We were all right about how crap we would be I’m not judging next season yet until I know exactly who is coming in and going out but so far dosnt look great

          4. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
            OohAhPaulMcGrath

Not really £9 m is still less than Stoke etc plus he will just be financed by sale of Delph so just a straight replacement. Thus it keeps us standing still as we have to sell to buy.

  9. Delph’s replacement probably!

    1. Or even Cleverly’s!

    2. Darren avatar

Probably in for cleverly. But even if it is for delph. At least it’s a good move to bring him in before delph leaves.

      1. I don’t Delph will go, but then again, neither do I think Benteke will go.

        1. Darren avatar

I agree I don’t think Delph will leave either. Just saying before the negatives roll in.

          Benteke I’m not sure on.

Not popped on for a while as I’ve been pretty busy but it’s good to see its business as usual…….’I’ve never heard of him and therefore he’s not good enough for our club’ or ‘I HAVE heard of him and he’s not good enough for our club’ or ‘we’ve had a bid accepted and he’s a good player so it’s not going to happen because if it does I’ll have to change my thinking’………etc etc, versus some very pleasant optimism. It’s what makes this blog great – love it. (still clinging to my prediction that Benteke will sign a new deal).

Good to see massive clubs battering Rob Vlaar’s for down. Any offers for Gabby?

That Swedish left back is very good by the way.

      Yup, business as usual here!
I sometimes think that we all have to be bi-polar – or what used to be better known as ‘manic-depressives’ – to be Villa fans; either on top of the world or down in the deepest despair…
I’ll wait until we see some definite news before falling into either mood.

By the way, whatever happened to the various ‘ITK’s’ who used to pop-up on here at every transfer window or every time there was supposed to be something happening at the club?
Most of them proved to be ‘know-nothings’ in the end, of course, but one or two used to get some real clues out of VP a few days before anyone else, and were at least quite entertaining!

      1. KentNielsen77 avatar
        KentNielsen77

There’s obviously a chance the Idrissa Gueye deal might not happen, but the Daily Mail reported he’d agreed to join Marseille 2 days ago – no one has a clue in the media do they really??

I’m operating Ardent’s I’ll believe it when I see it approach from now on.

        1. That’s the best policy Kent, loads of potential managers on here, wonder why their not in a managers job. I’m waiting for Oohah to slag our potential new supposedly new signing.

            He’s only 5ft 9

  11. Dave67 avatar

I couldn’t care less if a player was 3 mil or 30 mil, once they are an improvement to what we got. This is Sherwoods Tranfer window not Lambert. Let’s see who comes in the door before we start judging.

  12. Darren avatar

We should do what we can to try sign John Guidetti. He is now a free agent just released from city. Was never given a chance there but this guy is quality. More of what we need. Go get him Sherwood!

    1. KentNielsen77 avatar
      KentNielsen77

I like the idea of Sherwood assembling a team of quality misfits (not mercenaries like Wheeler Dealer Harry’s QPR or Adebeyor) – you know, players with a point to prove….. Richards and Sinclair are good examples……..if it worked out we could probably sell the movie rights.

    2. domingo avatar
      domingo

was thinking the same . john guidetti could be a good signing. if he isn’t looking for stupid wages he could be a real bargain and if he doesn’t work out least he is young enough that we could sell him on.

  13. Agent Mark McKay, acting for Lille, said: ‘Idrissa has a lot of interest and the pull of Marseille is big for any player in France but the lure of the Premier League should outweigh that.

‘He is due to speak to Paddy Reilly, Aston Villa’s director of recruitment tomorrow and hopefully matters will be concluded.’

    Hopefully he signs!!

Hah, I just took the mutt out for a walk and the one fact I do know is that it’s still roasting hot.

Anything else, well I’m happy to see, if it actually happens.

    Negative?
Probably, but “show me the money”, springs to mind.

I’m sorry if that doesn’t suit, but we’re not here to happy clap the club.

That said, bring any decent signing on 🙂

    1. Andrew avatar

Not about happy clapping the club, it’s just also not about turning everything into a negative and anything possibly positive like Idrissa possibly signing, being called BS. Have an open mind for once is all.

If we do have a few quid to spend, all the more reason for our dealings to be kept under the radar. It would be commercial suicide to name your targets and budget to the fans just to keep us happy!!!

  1. Didn’t villa want Somerville in the past look at him today.what the hell does monchi do other than buy and…

  2. Fucked by the powers tha be have to sell the best keeper ever to play for us just to comply…

  3. What a load of rubbish this display was very similar to when we got relegated It looks like he’s lost…

  4. I think that you’re spot on. I don’t think we even looked like scoring tonight. And I’m sorry to say…
