Aston Villa 0 – 1 Palace; Relegation? Probably.

I quite simply don’t know what to say.

Many of us had real fears about losing this one and so it turned out.

My predicted draw was looking in the bag, but we never really looked like scoring did we?

And what about that first half? I struggle to recall such a poor performance from two teams in the top flight, ever.

Even before the goal, the fact that Guzan had made the better saves in this game says it all and it’s simply not good enough. I even went so far as to think that Palace would probably nick it.

I now believe we stand every chance of going down, as we create absolutely nothing, especially at home.

How can it be that we are reduced to this?

I’m thoroughly despondent after that display, so am cutting it short. I just feel sick to the stomach.

But I will say one thing.
While I heard many boos and jeers, I never heard anyone calling for Lambert’s head.
I’m perplexed as to why.
Unless of course, most agree with me, in that we won’t appoint a decent replacement or give a new manager any money to spend.

Please, Lerner, do something or we’re doomed.

  1. What a total humiliation , lambert has totally lost it and should be sacked tonight I predicted we would loose before the game and unfortunately it came true in a truly horrific performance , I will not be wasting my time down vp until lambert has been sacked !

  2. Am I the only 1 who thinks that pretty much all of the other 19 PL chairman would have sent lamberk packing after today’s humiliation at the hands of Palace.
Amazing really as 2 top managers are looking for new challenges in Bielsa and Magath, how we’re crying out for someone like that as they’d rip this team to shreds. If only Randy Lerner wasn’t such a useless, ambitionless buffoon

    1. If only… we can dream of Bielsa, would be a privelidge to have a manager of his ilk at our club, instead of the current mumbling idiot. But no chance sadly.
Magath is a great shout tbh, he wouldn’t be scared to tell the useless turds in our squad what he thinks of them.
No worries though, we can keep listening to “we go again” in barely audible English every week from a brainless moron. Lamberk= worst manager in AVFC’s history.

    2. mentioning names like those shows how totally deluded some Villa fans have become.

      1. If we stick with Lamberk, I’d rather AVFC was killed off. Its that bad, utter humiliation.

        1. why do you think the likes of OGS, Martinez turned us down ?

When you get that answer then you will see the kind of shit we are left to choose from.

          1. OGS- wanted to stay in Norway, Martinez was being loyal to Whelen, if Wigan had stayed up he’d still be there now IMO

          2. saddened avatar

Ian they turned us down because they met our CEO……

          3. Well said Belcs… A lot of made up garbage comes on here quite often about “oh he turned us down for this reason” when it really was a totally different reason.

          4. BELCS…..correct mate. Ian spouting his ITK bollox as per usual. To listen to him is like the poltician that ‘talks alot, yet says fuck all’

  3. Swansea aren’t great away from home…but does anyone think we will beat them on Sat? The only changes Lambert can make are more of his own clueless signings. No Benteke means no goals, No Vlaar means no clean sheets. We are a very, very poor side.

    1. Morgan Villa avatar
      Morgan Villa

Swansea have players missing as well, but i can see them beating us. We are shit

      1. Crystal Palace were missing a reported 11 players. So yeah… It doesn’t really matter who is missing from any team.

  4. my final thoughts b4 I hit the bottle or finish it

last season their was spirit, hope and a team that created and finished of chances ~ then there’s NOW were are just as dodgy at defending ~ absolutely no creativity I can see no hope for us 🙁 unless a new man comes in and the lift that brings may save us but immediate future is definitely bleak
    happy new year

Its not reliable but a lad who sits near me at Villa has just rang me and said Lambert has the Swansea game and then its P45

So basically we beat Swansea and we are stuck with him for rest of the season or we lose and he goes. Think I prefer the latter

      1. I’d take a 0-10 loss if it meant Lamberk was sacked on the FT whistle

      2. Morgan Villa avatar

He should be sacked i have seen no plan b, the team is awful, the players signed this summer are useless. He keeps on playing KEA who cannot pass forward to save his life.

If i was Lerner i would sack him as i dont think McCleish even had boo’s like that at

    2. Don’t you remember the run of games last year at this time. If anyone was going to be sacked it would be then. I hate to say but we are stuck and we are f@cked

  6. We lose against swansea damn sure lambert will still be in the dugout,im sure that fucker is going to repeat in my nightmares..get fucking rid.

  7. Swansea game lamberts finale adios & fuck off.

Just for a moment I thought I might be the only voice calling for Lambert’s head. I am glad to see it is the general view.

A performance of such staggering ineptitude, and a 4th consecutive defeat should mean Lambert won’t need to pen the programme notes for Sheffield Utd. Please Lerner not another bloody Glaswegian – I want to understand the excuses from the next victim.

I will go further, I shall not be spending any more money on tickets until Lambert has gone and Guzan, Bennett, Herd, Baker, Clark and Delph are out of the starting 11. I recall seeing Delph’s debut [a 2-0 home defeat by Wigan] and thinking WTF is he playing at? I have thought the same at most home games he started since.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Can’t argue with that mate. I want lambert out ASAP and like u will not go again until he’s gone. The football is as dire as anything iv ever seen at vp the players he has signed are simply shit no argument about that. The question as always is if we sack him then who do we get? No half decent manager is going to come to a club with no money or ambition. I’d love someone like Benitez and would trust him with £50m. But no way will Lerner pay that. We are stuck with this situation unless Lerner sells and that could be years.

    2. #HELENIUS avatar

Guzan….The guy who along with Benteke ensured Premier League footy this season? Give over mate, the guys shot stopping is tremendous…..His only floor being he loves a hoof, yet I think thats more down to Lamberts tactics and also not trusting those in front of him

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

Would of lost 3.0 if not for Guzan

      2. OriginalLondonLion avatar
        OriginalLondonLion

Yes Helenius I am in a minority in criticizing Guzan – and all his supporters say he is a great shot-stopper. I agree with that, maybe Krul or Vorm are better but Guzan is no lower than #3 in the EPL. BUT… shot stopping is only part of the job, and at positioning prior to a shot, knowing when to come off his line and actually getting to a ball he comes for – Guzan is poor.

  9. Another poor game – these holiday seasons really are brutal for us and the injuries this season are now coming thick and fast. Not many positives to take away from todays game, better possession maybe, but I would say that is due to Palace’s talent rather than anything else. Against any other team today the game could have been really embarrassing. I have to agree with the commentators today – with a crowd of roughly 38k the spectators deserved better and it really was a game of two relegation teams.

As for Lambert, he’s definitely starting to feel the pressure of the job. As he walked to the tunnel is his face after the match really was one of concern. The squad just is to thin and too weak – the club really does need to invest this winter, it’s that simple. I am confident Lambert will turn this around, but without the full backing of Lerner this winter Lambert’s sacking is all but written in stone this summer.

Lambert walking? Common, no manager would walk away from a club.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Zola walked. He will walk if he gets a pay off. Lerner will give lamberk fuck all to spend in jan remember last year and we were in a worse position then. Lambert is simply not good enough, his players are probably the worst iv ever seen at VP. Lerner will be happy if we finish fourth from bottom on goal difference which is more than likely what will happen. There is no point whatsoever supporting this dross unless you like pain. In the summer we will be linked with big name players again to sell sts and none will come to fruition. It’s the only time the club are interested in us is when season ticket renewal is due. I say boycott the club until things change but people won’t coz they are happy to put up with this crap

      1. OOHAH, who in particular is happy to put up with this crap?

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

The 22,000 or so st holders for starters who will still be gullible enough to renew next year. If these people didn’t renew then more chance of action being taken.

          1. saddened avatar

They will renew again, because we will be connected to Ronaldo, Suarez and Messi at the same time!!

Matt Law from the Daily Telegraph has just tweeted ‘I really don’t see any manager being successful at Villa until the structure if the club changes and good decision makers are hired’.

To sum this up whilst Lambert, Faulkner and Lerner remain we are fucked

    1. saddened avatar

You run a Ferrari on cheap red derv, it ends up breaking down… The Villa are being run on the cheap, with a cheap manager an inexperienced bean counter as a CEO, a board with no football knowledge and an owner that has given up his interest in his little toy…. Our home form is a disgrace but we still sell lots of season tickets and our home attendance is considerable, therefore as long as we finish fourth from bottom Lerner is ecstatic …!

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

Spot on saddened. As iv said earlier the only ambition from Lerner is fourth from bottom to protect his investment. He will do this as cheaply as possible. On another note the OS say they are giving everyone a free sticker for Swansea game whoopee!! They can stick their sticker up their arse ffs !!

        1. saddened avatar

Free stickers, scarves coaches etc, its all PR crap because they think it keeps the fans happy – same as being connected to bullshit signings when they are selling season tickets. These clowns could not run a bath let alone a premiership football club.

          1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
            OohAhPaulMcGrath

Hey saddened lamberts quote as predicted from goal.com

Defeat places Villa just three points off the relegation places yet Lambert does not believe his side are in a relegation battle, instead insisting his attentions are switched to their next game at home to Swansea.

“No. If you look at the table at the lower side of it everybody in that side is doing the exact same as us,” he told reporters. “I’m not going to be downbeat here and I’ll pick them up and go again on Saturday.

“The way we bounce back is if we win it and that’s what we’ll try to do and try and give them [the fans] something to go with. You stick with it and that’s important. It’s important that everybody sticks together.

I can’t bear to watch it anymore. When Lerner came in 2006, I was hopeful we could at least have chance to challenge and most importantly play entertaining football. For all of the 6th finishes, I didn’t like the O’Neil football and hated the decline fate the blarney era.

I was prepared to give Lambert a chance but he is worse than O’Neil but like his mentor is in this for the money, he DOES NOT CARE about Aston Villa, he will only walk after a massive payout (Norwich have the proof). He would rather stay and drag the club down than show some character and walk. People talk about mercenary players but the managers are no better.

The sooner Lerner goes the better even if it means we play in red and blue and are called Aston Red Bull Villa.

Be gone with you Lerner, you have damaged my club enough and take Faulker and Lambert with you when you get your buyout fee!

  12. Bencey83 avatar

We need to get Lambert out now if we want to have any chance of staying up. I’ve really had enough of the tripe we keep getting served up.

  13. Bencey83 avatar

    Praying for a takeover!

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Me too would love a man city style takeover. Lerner stayed with the browns for years even though their fans wanted wanted Lerner out. I’m afraid it could be another 5 years at least of Lerner so may as well save st money and start buying seats in 5 years time as football will never improve under Lerner no matter who is manager

  14. We’ve got the worst home record of all 92 league clubs, so right now 91 league managers are doing a better job than Paul Lambert. So when people say who can we bring in, pretty much anyone would be an improvement, its that bad.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

We said that about mcleish but got lamberk who is worse IMO.

      1. Mcleish is a better manager than lambert, both play limited hoofball, but mcleish is marginally more effective. We don’t half pick some shit managers, time to go abroad, I refuse to believe there aren’t better managers out there willing to join our club. Someone, somewhere will be grateful of the opportunity, even if Lerner is running us on the cheap.

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar

Have read all the comments and so far does this mean the LEMMINGS are turning.Or do they wish they had have taken notice of Sir Oohah and myself as we said from the start no good would come of having LAMBERK as manager.Lerner gave them the man they wanted now they should hang their heads in shame as he as totaly destroyed a great club the pride of the midlands and the Great City of Birmingham.Hope they are pleased with them selfs Lamberk must be made walk the plank me hearties.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Agree sir terry if only the lemmings listened to us. Or we got was slater or let’s give e him time ffs. He needs to go now end of. Even if we beat Swansea 10.0 I don’t care it will be another result papering over the cracks of how poor we are.

      1. Alright you two, hands are held up! Stop bragging! Yes, he’s a shit manager, he doesn’t have a clue, he has to go. As you say oohah, even if we beat Swansea, I’m all out of hope now, the guy needs to walk!

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

Lol agree mate. Let’s hope he goes

          1. Its the first game i have missed for just over a year n knew we would lose this one. We are playing some crap footy this season and need a massive change! Its generally worse than mcleich. Lambert is taking us one way and thats down!!! I wasnt in favour of him in the first place but thought we need stubility and need to give him a chance, he has completley failed and now needs to go, I now want the mumbling twat out our great club!!

  16. Has he gone yet? Let me know when I can start watching my beloved team again please! Not going near another game until he’s gone.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

I keep checking the internet to see if he’s gone but nothing out there unfortunately so wev got him for Swansea at least 🙁

  17. We are abysmal and there is no denying that. I can’t believe we have dropped so far since the latter part of last season. Without some quality additions we look doomed. The style of football is so atrocious you do feel that it’s a waste of time recruiting them as they would probably make no difference.

I defended McLeish last year as he was on a hiding to nothing. If he hadn’t lost Bent to injury we would probably have stayed up more comfortably. I can’t see any reason to defend Lambert as this is his team in a way that wasn’t true of the last manager. And before anyone misses the point no I was not a fan!

I struggle to see who we will get in to move us forwards. Hands up, who wanted Lambert? If you did then clearly you are as useless as Lerner. So why would your choice be right now? A foreign, maybe non-English speaking manager? How often does that work? I’m at a loss really. I want change but I don’t trust anyone at Villa to give me the answer either. It’s so awful all you can do is joke about it.

I will confess that I haven’t been to Villa Park since the end of the McLeish season. I was a season ticket holder till then, but just got sick of the crap football and the whole negative experience. I can’t see any reason to change.

  18. Now now lads don’t gloat, he that laughs last laughs longest, OK most of us took ,longer than most to realize we had a prat of a manager, the thing is what can we do to get rid of him, 4 seats are not getting renewed, secondly will not buy fuck all from the club that’s my contribution how’s that.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Well that’s a start Bill but we need thousands of others to follow and can’t see that happening

      1. Oohah forgot to say, Sky sports out of the window, also bt sports, if they ask why will say ask Aston Villa that question.

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

Sky have a lot to do with it I cancelled sky sports a couple of years ago though got BT sports simply as it’s free as I have broadband with them anyway. Can’t stand listening to Owen why the fuck they got that money grabbing useless twonk is beyond me. However teams above us suffer also from sky like saints and Newcastle but look how well they do compared to us. The only teams that win major honours in the sky era are the media darlings and gate crashers with tons of money like city and Chelsea.

    2. Not gloating Bill. I wasn’t pro or anti Lambert as felt I didn’t know enough about him. That said I was impressed by his previous promotions and getting a team into the Premiership on buttons and keeping them there. I’m the same now. We need to change but how? Three managers since MON (not a fan of him either) and relegation battles each year. Like I said, I’m at a loss really, but don’t want change just to be back where we are now.

      1. D’svilla that was aimed at Terry and Oohah, I’m like you mate ashamed at my club.

        1. Sorry Bill. Misread that.

  19. Bencey83 avatar

No more Scottish Premier League managers please! Just because Alex Ferguson was successful, doesn’t mean the rest will be. Hit and hope, long ball stuff probably works 99% of the time when you’re Celtic playing Ross County, but it won’t work if your players are more like Crewe vs Champions League!

  20. Bencey83 avatar

I really do fear the worst this season. Don’t think Lerner will give Lambert the boot, especially not mid-season. This will be the third year running we’ve been in a relegation battle and we were lucky to escape the past two times. We all saw what happened to Wigan – if you keep dicing with relegation your luck runs out eventually! And they even had a decent manger!

Only 3 points of bottom 3 now and 4 point behind Sunderland could be bottom 3 in next week or so.

    Lamabert:

“It’s the old cliche but you have to pick yourselves up. You have to meet the challenge.

“There’s no point wilting. I am disappointed. But you pick yourself up and meet that challenge.”

Apparently Culverhouse told some fans to shut up as well, i am sorry but not good enough, the club is being dragged through the gutter by second rate amatuers who should be ashamed of themselves.

I am furious tonight time for us fans to make somekind of a stand we need some lambet out songs and some Lerner out songs we are heading for the championship.

Also want to add if i dont like it because Villa are playing shit and i complain it does not make me fickle it makes me a real fan who goes to very league home game, not some ponce who watches clips on MOTD.

I haven’t set foot in Villa Park or spent a penny on Merchandise since then and simply will not until Lerner is gone. I was a fan of Houllier he was taking the club in the right direction and we played attractive football I really think if he hadn’t of got ill we would be in a far healthier position. As for Lambert well I never wanted him the job is to big for him that’s clear he is good for a crap team like Norwich who are happy to survive on a shoestring. He is not good enough for Avfc he is a miserable dire manager. Nothing else to say apart from F–k off Lerner.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Spot on spenc just searched the internet to see if lamberk had been sacked yet but unfortunately I can’t see anything which means Wev got join in charge for Swansea. If we win that game 10.0 I still want him out he is shit. Lerner has to go to he has run this club into the ground and made us a laughing stock like he did the browns. Can’t believe 37,000 actually bothered to go yesterday says it all.

  25. So some fans on facebook have claimed the great and supposed tactical genius that is Ian Culverhouse, who was the real man behind Norwich doing well… Was telling fans to fuck off and to shut up and stop booing, while Weimann was shushing fans. Kind of getting sad really.

    1. Does get me thinking how much Ol’ Ian does for the club and are these really his tactics. Telling fans to fuck off and shut up really is a bit touchy… Unless he has a huge hand in creating them, like he did at Norwich.

    2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Fans need to start chanting for lamberts head and culver houses head if true tomorrow. Win lose or draw fans need to grow a pair and make it known we don’t want this mumbling tosser at out great club anymore
