Aly Cissokho is set to move to Porto on a season long loan deal. Cissokho was brought in by Lambert last season for £3.5 million from Valencia. Cissokho started as Aston Villa’s first choice left-back, but wasn’t favoured under Sherwood because Cissokho isn’t a very attacking left-back. With the arrival of Jordan Amavi and Sherwood liking Bennett both Cissokho and Richardson don’t have a future at Aston Villa. Luna has already left for Eibar on a free transfer.
The 27-year old has reportedly flown into Portugal and is set to finalise a season loan deal with Porto. Cissokho played for Porto in the 2009 season before moving to Lyon for a €15 million the following season. The deal reportedly includes a permanent transfer clause which can be activated at the end of the 2015/16 season.
I did think that when Cissokho joined Aston Villa that he’d be our solution for at least two seasons, unfortunately it wasn’t the case. Cissokho was obviously not our worst left-back at the club for the past few years, some say that he was one of our more solid left-backs throughout the years. But with the addition of Amavi, it seems as though there is no place for Cissokho and he is clearly not rated by Sherwood. I’d feel as though Cissokho would be the perfect back up to Amavi.

Decent defender can’t cross a ball at all.
Correct, slow in movement in back tracking, cannot turn ,seen that the day he played his first game. He may have looked good to what we had in defence at the time. won’t miss him.
It is a clear sign that Tim thinks the team has now improved beyond him. Only a few of Richardson’s late-season displays bettered Cissoko’s contribution to defence as a left back, nothing Hutton or Lowton did on that side came close. A better left back than Cissoko was a requirement, hopefully we now have one.
Though I thought Cissokho was decent defensively, we’d all have to say he was pretty shocking going forward. In a Lambert team he may have proven to be decent back up but Sherwood will want back up players who are similar in playing style to the first choice players to ensure continuity in the teams playing style, therefore Cissokho has to go – he and Amavi are chalk and cheese whereas Bennet and Richardson are not too dissimilar.
I wish him luck though, he always put 100% in despite his attacking limitations. UTV
All very good points. I can’t help but feeling I’d be way happier defending a lead away from home with Cissokho, rather than Bennett or Richardson, if something terrible were to happen to Amavi. I must say I’m very excited about Amavi.
That’s my worry Amavi is bound to miss some games with injuries etc Cossokho would of been decent bk up imo
Sherwood quite likes Bennett. Bennett would be decent enough back up to Amavi. Baker can also play there and does look good defensively there, no good going forward but that’s not a problem.
bennet was crap at brighton think time to write him off
Just heard Tim Vickery on Talk Sport say that if it’s true that Villa are in for Eder Balanta, we will have a very good player with amazing potential and Villa fans should be very excited. He’s a Peruvian CB for River Plate who can also play RB, first I’ve heard of us being linked to him, but if true could be a cracking buy!
Would be a great signing if true but I think loads of top clubs like Barca are in for him unless they buy him and loan him to us I can’t see him coming.
Colombian, not Peruvian.
I see that Micah Richards has been appointed Field Captain with Gabby as club captain. Club captain is a bit like American Vice President, Weddings and Funerals, Hospital visits midweek PR, but no action where it matters. I would have preferred Clark, and hope those two can gel when Richards is calling the shots.
Maybe both Clarke and Richards would have been getting in each others way shouting orders? As you say, club captain is more of an ambassadorial role, for which Gabby is suited for.
Am in the South of France but can’t find any more snippets from Nice Matin regarding any EPL teams…
It’s being reported a fee has been agreed for Eder Balanta. A Columbian centre back. Has previously been looked at by the likes of Barcelona, Valencia and Liverpool.
Where did you see that Darren?

Thanks
HTC are reporting the Adebayor’s deals off after Sherwood pulled the plug. No bad thing imo.
Avoided a large banana skin there.
That would be a backwards step to us should he come, as your intimating Hitch not over till the fat lady sings. I don’t rate the man.
I’m glad Tim’s seen the light concerning him, possibly him mentioning we’d be relegation fodder this season didn’t do him any favours.time to move on to the next acquisition UTV

Interesting ‘Scout Report’ on Balanta last year by Skysports…sounds a classy player! Get this boy in and Traore or Praet and i’ll run naked through the streets with happiness! We might be crap this year, but we’ll have the greatest potential team in the world! ha
Squad number announced, but nobody has taken number 10 – hmmm the plot thickens, does this mean a number 10 is about to be announced ???
I thought exactly the same thing. Neymar? Rooney?
It sounds like we might have pulled the plug on the Adebeyor deal so I’d love that 10 shirt to be going to a fantastic attacking talent. Praet?
sherwood is keeping the number 10 for his lovechild Adebeyor . still think sherwood will keep chipping away until a deal gets done.
Me to IV a horrible feeling he’s still going to come even if it last day of window
Messis coming lol. Hope it’s not for Adebeyor
Interesting Bennett keeps 3. So must be in tim’s plans. I could see him as back up in a wing back role or even wide mid / wing.
See nobody has got 16. Perhaps we are in 2 minds who to give it to…
20 being saved for benteke’ s brother, so don’t bin your old replica shirt yet.
Who’d want the number 16 shirt, it’s only got a hole for the head. Snakes don’t need sleeves.
@kentnielsen77
Nice one!!!
BTW a little story about Kent…
I was in New York at the UN building in the early 90s when there was a lot of trouble going on so bags etc had to be left in a shed in the plaza and you were searched and scanned going in. I was wearing a Villa T shirt at the time.
As I was leaving I was stopped by an armed UN guard who was 6 foot 6, blonde haired and very muscular. He placed a huge hand on my shoulder and din’t say anything for a second and I had to concentrate on keeping my underwear dry.
Then he smiled and said ‘Kent Neilsen, what a player!’ We ended up having a very nice chat about football.
Loved Kent anyway, like the guard said ‘What a player!’
Great story Pat, funnily enough I stayed in the Millennium Plaza Hotel right next to the UN building a few years back. Got talking to an American guy who followed the Premier League it was around the time Brian McBride was at Everton / Fulham. He had massive respect for Villa……referred to us as a ‘proper club’.
As for Kent Nielsen, that goal he scored against Inter is one of my standout moments as a villa supporter – who was more surprised? Me, Inter Milan’s goalkeeper, his Villa teammates, or Kent himself? Great goal. UTV.
I would only assume the Benteke and Delph numbers where not issued out to prevent added pressure on whomever wore them. In other words no one can say so-and-so is a direct replacement and preventing future drama in the media. Dunno, who knows we very well may be searching for replacements too which wouldn’t surprise me. It seems like we are linked to someone new everyday so it appears the club are at least still in the market.
Who gives a fuck it’s just a number printed on a shirt.
Being linked to Rondon and still heavily linked to Rolan in the French press. Either striker could definitely replace Benteke if we were looking to replace him and Gestede’s not considered his replacement.
Daily Mail claims we want Lennon because he’s English and would bring balance to our signings, apparently not realizing home grown players in the dressing room isn’t a problem.
yep just read that . at the £5m being reported i would take him but once again you have to deal with levy. just not worth the hassle. no wonder most spurs fans hate him he makes a joke of their club every time the transfer window opens. i think he watched wallstreet to many times as a kid. BUY LOW , SELL HIGH is his mantra but he takes it to extremes .
Reminds me of Doug penny wise pound foolish
I really can’t see the Lennon deal happening. If anything he is a second or third option when all else fails, but more than likely it is his agent or Levy trying to let the world know he is available.
Another Gabby imo
No chance we’ll sign him, we won’t sign anyone from Tottenham. The English media hasn’t gotten a single transfer rumour right about Villa so taking them seriously would be a waste of time. Adama Traore seems the most likely, would be perfect as he doesn’t have to be registered due to age, and he had 14 assists in the 2nd division in Spain.
I personally think our spending spree is over. When you think about there is no need for Lerner to buy anyone else. If we start really poorly then maybe one more player will come in but I don’t expect much except maybe a cheap loan signing.
So negative. :p (kidding)
Nah I think we’ll see a striker still. Gestede is the replacement to Benteke but I think we’re looking for a player to play off him. Ayew I think will play behind them or out wide. With Gabby off the bench at best. Kozak back up to Gestede, or starting over Gestede.
It’s quite funny. None of us have a clue about our preferred front two. So neither will our opponents!
That and AM is hard to pick too.
Between Gil, Sinclair, Tonev, Grealish, N’Zogbia, Cole and possibly Traore at this rate. Unless Cole, Tonev or Grealish leave.
CM’s hard to choose too as I think only Gueye’s really first choice. Think the defense and in goal are the only real obvious picks.
Can’t see tones or Cole doing anything we should sell both of them tbh
Neither will Sherwood either
I think if Guzan doesn’t improve this season with a better defence, then it’ll be his last at Villa.
Oohah, my guess is we’re trying. At least on Tonev, but finding a buyer isn’t easy.
Agreed Bum Bum, I don’t think he was near as bad as people claimed he was, but he does have some improvement to do.
Isnt Sinclair similar to Lennon in a lot of ways. Also Gestede is Bentekes replacement imo if he didn’t come off then we might get a striker in new year.
Sinclair’s a bit different to Lennon. Sinclair’s a terrible winger but as a forward he could work. Lennon’s an out and out winger with an awful cross. 5m would be a huge waste of money.
Young had an awful cross too still has tbf
I’d say 1 out of 3 would hit the target from Young, Lennon doesn’t have that ability. Lennon is full on 1 footed, Young can use his left, Lennon rarely beats his man and depends on pace and getting to the end line, Young can cross it from the end line or cut in and have a shot. Can also take a decent free kick and corners. Neither Lennon can do. Young can play either side or as an AM, Lennon’s solely a Right Winger.
In a vote on BBC Live the first Premier manager to leave will be Rodgers with 30% of the vote.
Tim in joint last place with 4%
Agree absolutely.
BTW the crystal ball has just said that we will finish higher than Liverpool this season!
Believe it!
UTV
Finishing higher? I highly doubt it, but I completely agree with Rodgers getting sacked. I think I would shed a tear if Benteke ended up finding himself marginalized after his departure… awful!
Doubt it Benteke played well for us do no reason he won’t for them. A new manager is bound to want benteke he scores one goal in two makes him undroppable really.
Torres was undroppable at one point too, but football is a funny game and all it takes is a new manager to prefer someone else. Benteke will be fine, he single handedly kept us up, and will go on to bigger and better things, although I can be sour until the season starts, no?
True but if he should easily get 25plus this season so unlikely to be dropped unless injured or suspended of course
Problem is if Rogers goes they will get a quality manager in so that with new manager syndrome will push them on for a decent season. Sherwood will get at least this season though I’m still not convinced by Sherwood in a big way but happy to give him till Xmas to judge him fully
That’s very magnanimous of you. People on this site and elsewhere were still giving Lambert three bloody years to prove himself! I still find it hard to believe what we put up with for so long.
Soooooooo looking forward to this season! I think it’s gonna be a good one. Relegation? No way, man…Absolutely not.
Tim is the new Alex Ferguson! 😉
I believe you Bum bum, he’s a revolution to our club, he will put Villa back on the map, OK I’ve had a few whiskies but I’m a believer. or is it dreamer.????? Come on u Villain’s.
Daydream Believer???? Are you Monkeying around Bill????
Why Crystal Balls I often wondered. Well Crystal is some mind bending dope and Balls is a bad story. So if you have had enough Crystal Pat you might believe the Balls that Villa will finish above the Scousers. Visitors enjoy coming to VP, that is part of the problem, Anfield is seen as much less welcoming.
Hey he we’re the Monkees always monking around, might be what Sherwood’s doing at the minute,? he’s certainly moved the goal post so far, and might i say was needed. not long to go.????
Andrew and Oohah, I may be wrong but I thought Tonev was released by the club on Aug 1st, along with Chris Herd.
I don’t remember the club announcing that nor can I find it looking it up, but neither have a squad number or are they on the official site under squad from what I see. Tonev’s still on transfermarkt under us though, so I don’t know.
My son had the news on his phone Andrew, I’ll have to ask him in the morning what site he saw it on, I know he follows the Villa on Facebook but I can’t find it there.
What about a Bournemouth preview LADS????
OK Giddy – just for you. A Bournemouth preview……
With Gestede and Vertout lacking playing time – two of the Villa newcomers who are going to be major players wont start at the Vitality Stadium in case they lack Vitality. The excuses are in now it seems, and tbh I haven’t a clue how Villa will play. Gone with the losing mentality is I trust our tactics for seeing out the last 10 minutes to preserve 1 or 3 points. We are not going to defend in our penalty box, we are going to defend in their penalty box, Fergie style.
We know a bit more about the Cherries. Matt Richie will be a good test of our new left back. Matt is a left footed right winger with a shot like Tony Morley, but his crossing with his right foot is only ordinary at best. So our LB had better show him the outside route. Hutton’s opponent will probably be Pugh, an old fashioned dribbler. Alan won’t have difficulty catching up with him, but he might be left wondering where the ball went. Our CBs had better mark their strikers and play for Pugh centering the ball on the ground. King, Bournemouth’s new target man is an unknown quantity: I guess he will be half way between Carlton Cole and Benteke as a problem. Wilson on the other hand is a player I wish we had signed. Like Owen and Defoe he is a little guy who times runs behind the defence very well. His party piece gets his tracking CB directly behind him as he enters the box, then Wilson slows down. 11 opponents ran into the back of him for a penalty last season so expect him to try it on. Weaknesses? Yeah they have some – starting with Boruc, a keeper who is a less athletic version of Guzan ie dodgy at this level. Their left sided defence always plays as if their left back will cut out all crosses so they are often asleep when one comes in from that side.
Can’t be a goalless draw can it?
Remember we did beat them quite comfortably at VP so not sure why we are all worried as have better team now
See that Benteke’s come out with a ‘rant’ about Sherwood
http://sportinglife.aol.co.uk/football/news/article/22882/9939453/christian-benteke-hits-out-at-aston-villa-boss-tim-sherwood
To be fair I agree with him I said it all along that he just hit form at the right time and would of done under Lamberk
We couldn’t have played Benteke’s ‘modern football’ last year because we didn’t have the players! Quite frankly, bollocks to the bloke. He scored goals for us because it made him look good and it’s his bloody job!
kind of really want him to fail now
Sorry people but Sherwood’s got this one wrong, well according to the stats on Talk sport anyway. They have us down last season as scoring only 2 goals from crosses and Tekkers found the net 15 times in 33 games so what he (Sherwood) is saying don’t really add up and smacks of sour grapes to me, he’d been better keeping his trap shut on this one imo.
two minutes a scouser already a bullshitter
I’m with BWS on this one, I think it was a last throw of the dice by a desperate Sherwood to try and get Benteke to stay. I don’t blame him in trying anything to get him to stay, but he was basically labelling Benteke a one trick pony which he clearly is not. Hope to God that Sherwood’s going to be more than just a one trick pony himself, this season will give us the answer!
Andrew, my son used Soccer Base.com. on that site it states that on Aug 1st Villa released Vlaar, Herd and Tonev.
Agree I’m concerned that Sherwood isn’t good enough tbh. The fact he still wants to waste a £100k a week wages in Adebeyor scares me shitjess
so more reports of tim wanting to resurrect a deal for his lovechild.. how much time has been wasted this summer on this player . tim is starting to worry me . he just wont let it go.
It may just be a smokescreen…
See that the real OoHah is back from his holidays…!
Ha ha but why waste this time and effort on Adebeyor we should be going for ch and RB
Sherwood isn’t a one trick pony, he’s a whole herd of ponies racing towards you…RIP Stuart Baggs.
I think what Sherwood said to Benteke, should have stayed between Sherwood and Benteke, it is grossly unprofessional for Benteke to start spouting about a club that took a punt on him when he was going through his car jacking misdemeanour.
He sounds like he thinks he saved us on his own, Sherwood galvanised the whole team not just Benteke…. Benteke should shut up !
I’d agree that whatever was said should have stayed ‘private’ – as far as I can see nobody from VP has come out with any public comments about Benteke, so why he’s gone public with this is beyond me.
Yea you’re right about him going public but at the end of the day with Villa scoring just 2 goals from crosses the facts don’t back his (Sherwood’s) argument so he was talking bubbles with regards to tekkers only being able to score from crosses.
And if we are brutally honest with ourselves his goals did keep us up, for all the endeavour in the world it’s putting the ball in the back of the net that counts.
I’m worried again? I’m f#%ked to know what to think, its turning me into a cricket fan, are you saying Sherwood’s a liar? or saying he don’t know what he’s doing? Fuck it even Oohah’s turned again, I’m off to get pissed.
ha ha Bill, I have been full of confidence for a couple of weeks, I am now pooping myself as tomorrow is a dodgy game, newly promoted sides are always difficult…. Think I may just go to the pub until its all over tomorrow.
Not so much a lair more a case that he tried to blag Benteke in a vain attempt to keep him at VP but his comment of “There’s no point going to a club where they don’t cross the ball.” don’t really hold piss when the guy he’s talking about scored 15 in 33 in a team that only scored 2 from crosses.
