The latest load of tripe again links us to Joleon Lescott;
http://threeandin.com/archives/40605
This is just a joke in my opinion, as look at the alternative clubs that are mentioned as competing against us.
We have Schalke, who will be in the Champions League, Portland timbers and Al Ain.
And then there’s apparently the mighty West Ham, who, given that Lerner only wants to pay minimum wage, will probably offer twice the money we would.
Let’s face it. Even though he’s a Villa fan, he just ain’t coming.
And suggestions to the contrary are, to me, a plain insult.
Then we have Wes Hoolahan;
Villa-to-name-Keane-as-Lambert-s-No-2-and-then-step-up-bid-for-Hoolahan
He’s not a particularly bad player and indeed about Lambert’s level to my mind, but come on;
Promoted Leicester City are ready with a £2million bid should Norwich snub Lambert and Villa’s interest once again.
Seeing that the mighty Leicester outgunned us wages-wise for Albrighton, is it really realistic that this will happen?
Yes, there might be a slight advantage in that the player knows Paul Lambert.
Enough said, hence I don’t see him coming to Villa.
And then, we’re due to miss out on Jack Colback;
http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfer-news-jack-7233249
Good, in my opinion.
He’s even more decidely average than the way I’m seeing the club at the moment.
And that’s saying something.
“Outgunned us wage wise”… Lol… Are we really still on this crap? Seriously. Albrighton isn’t worth 35k a week, I wouldn’t want Villa offering him that. We weren’t outgunned, Villa proved their intelligence by not offering the higher wages he wanted.
Colback’s not near as bad as claimed either. Not exactly a great player, but good enough for Lambert’s crap style of football and would provide more good than harm if anything.
Completely agree. Also think Colback is better than Albrighton. So if we can get him, good job.
Seemed a quality CM at Sunderland and I’d be happy to see him here. Don’t see fans problem with him honestly.
I do seen him a few times and awful player. A couple of makems I know one said he was average at best the other said he was useless and not bothered if he goes which says it all.
Not really as you can ask a lot of fans of the same club about a few players that leave and they’ll give you different opinions. Like Albrighton for instance. Ask a lot of Villa fans, they’re pissed about him leaving, ask a few others like you or I, we don’t care that he’s gone. Doesn’t quite mean because a majority think he’s good enough for Villa, means they’re right.
Just live in hope that a takeover is around the corner , and soon we will be able to hold our heads up high again with some pride .
No player is worth £35k a week, but of course he’s worth it because Leicester have paid it!
It’s quite obvious you don’t rate him, which is fair enough, but many do, myself included.
The point is you have to consider what it would cost to replace him.
Villa proved their intelligence?
Give over: it was money saving, as simple as that.
And a sign that Leicester are more ambitious than us, something that might well be proved in the league table at the end of the season.
Badger 123 I was out with Leicester fans lastnight and they are confidence of being above our shower, only die hard Villa fans would disagree, what you just said is what I feel, complete lack of faith in what Aston Villa are able to give us fans, someone summed it up for me not long ago my support is dying fast, I’m now living in hope of miracles ,and they are far off. Albrighton was a fair player not given playing time, was he worth 35 grand? I think that if Villa had offered him a contract and a few grand more he would have stayed, But Lambert sore otherwise, I mean what I’ve said no seats from me,
Signing Albrighton is proving they’re more ambitious. My god football’s going to hell if losing Albrighton to some newly promoted club because they’re willing to pay anything to get who they want. Does Hamer and Barmby show more ambition? Does bloody Upson joining them show more ambition? How about DJ Campbell who looks likely to join them, is that ambition? Simply throwing higher wages to free agents proves absolutely nothing about them being more ambitious. I’d rather Lambert looked at one of our other academy players before playing Albrighton again.
Andrew,
I give up, I really do.
We’ve tried the cheap and young option and it’s proved a massive failure, which is why many think we’re amongst the favourites to go down next season!
We need to bring in players that are BETTER, if we actually want to improve.
Academy players?
They aren’t good enough on the whole, as much as I’d like to say otherwise and I certainly haven’t seen one who’s better at crossing than Albrighton.
I know putting the club up for sale has caused big problems, but your attitude is far too forgiving imo.
We’re in serious trouble and players of this sort of standard are not going to get us out of it.
I realise Lerner isn’t going to spend, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to happily accept it, the way you seem to be doing.
But then how often have you watched them? That’s the thing, they haven’t been given a chance, so claiming they’re not good enough shouldn’t be happening until they’re given that chance. I’d much rather see a Grealish or Carruthers over Albrighton all day every day.
You’re right, we need better than we have to improve. But what’s wrong with depth? We’re not going to get better than we have for depth, but then Colback’s probably better than what we have.
I’m not happily accepting it, but I’m understanding the reasons behind Lerner and am accepting that.
All we ever do is give this one and that one a chance and rarely does it work out. I’m with Badger on this the youth players simply arnt good enough. Other than Cahill who MON sold as he preferred Zat shite name me one player who is any good from our youth set up. Gabby is ok in flashes and that’s about it.
But we haven’t tried and tested our current bunch. You can’t compare our last group like Hogg, Moore brothers and such to our current crop of untested youth. We have a great bunch of youth players that deserve a test before they’re criticized as not good enough, no? A few of them impressed on loans enough that they should be tested, especially as we need wingers and I’d prefer to see the likes of Carruthers, Grealish, Graham a try. Plus then we have the likes of Abdo, who looks a quality player himself. We have a fresh bunch of youngsters and they should be played at the top level before judged as not good enough.
Badger why my post in moderation?
Hi Lewis post should show ok now. Cheers
Its me Oohah Bill Pearson
Now it’s replacing him with someone with the capability to whip a decent ball into the box. No one else in the Team springs to mind.
Test
This might have been said above, but we weren’t out gunned with Ably… he said last week that we didn’t even offer him a contract…
Same thing, imo.
Far too expensive for us to even consider offering him one.
Although, in fairness, Lambert didn’t even try him till late on, where he was the best player in the team on most occasions.
Lambert probably didn’t see it though, which just goes to show what a poor manager he is if he didn’t even consider it.
Of course, we have better coming through the ranks or we’ll buy a better player, cheaper.
I don’t think.
Fwiw I rated ably but he was a liability defensively however he started to improve on that this season. Should have kept him imo
Darren Fletcher and Hoolahan to be our only 2 other signings this summer.
i think hoolihan is obvious more lazy journalsm
I’m disappointed that Albrighton has gone. It’s always nice to see someone come through the ranks and get into the first team. You couldn’t fault his effort either, but I did feel he was a bit hit and miss. £35K a week though? Not in my opinion. How much is Benteke on? The problem with paying Albrighton £35K a week is not just that he isn’t worth that, it’s the knock on effect it has with the other players.
It appears we didn’t make any offer. That is surprising. I guess if the club knew he had been offered £35K they may have simply decided that was too much.
It’s just another illustration of where we are. It is unlikely to improve until Lerner sells so we better get used to it.
Maybe yey maybe ney?http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/leeds-to-battle-aston-villa-for-brazilian-striker/?
Also Bendtner to Villa rumour again
Well it’s the best we’ll get now. Get used to it. Wonder if they’ll be with us in the conference.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2653201/Aston-Villa-looking-Joe-Cole-Paul-Lambert-tries-boost-attacking-options.html I like this link
Every season for the past god knows how long Joe Coles name to Villa every season
A lot of people tweeting that Joe Cole is having a medical at Villa ?
Lee Clayton of the daily mail says Joe Cole to Villa is a done deal
Im waiting for someone to slag him off. I’m sorry we won’t be signing messi and Rinaldo just yet. This in the circumstances is quite exciting.
I’ll happily slag him off. The little cretin is and never has been any good. Discusting.
Youve set up a profile just to slag a player which under circumstances is half decent signing. Please tell me who you would expect us to sign ?
Vinnie Jones, Joey Barton, David Batty, Paul Ince, Danny Mills, Lee Hendrie. Anymore vile footballers you can think of really.
And to top it off, Roy Keane as part of the backroom staff.
Forget young and hungry, its now old and already rich.
Ha ha from one extreme to the other don’t no wots worse
Half decent signing? He played a whopping 13 times for West Ham last season.
Holtby
Didn’t Gerrard say Joe Cole was as good as those 2 when Cole joined Liverpool? Lol
He’s taken a big pay cut because he wants to play.
No it’s because his contract is coming to an end and no one else will touch him. He only played 13 times in a poor west ham team says it all. Another michael Owen but not as high lye paid thankfully
Not insulting him, I was simply trying to remember. He said something similar too it I believe is all. I’m all for him, though would prefer N’Zogbia to Cole, if we somehow keep both and would be willing to play an attacking style of football and having both, that would be great.
Oohah, Cole works in an attacking style if we play like that. Didn’t work at Pool because they weren’t playing the way they are now, didn’t work at West Ham because they don’t play the way he needs to be played. Hopefully we something similar to the first season under Lambert with a pass and move style.
We play anti football at villa to
That’s why I mentioned going back to Lambert’s first season, when we actually attacked teams.
Joe Cole having a medical tonight apparently got him on a free
Whoever next? John Barnes?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2653201/Aston-Villa-looking-Joe-Cole-Paul-Lambert-tries-boost-attacking-options.html
We get the picture now.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2653201/Aston-Villa-looking-Joe-Cole-Paul-Lambert-tries-boost-attacking-options.html
Joe Cole – quite possibly the last name I would have expected to read, but he may have a bigger influence than when we signed (loaned) Pires? His fitness is the only thing that worries me.
Don’t make me laugh Hank
Are you a bluenose ?
