Sylla is the latest Villa player to leave the club this season. Sylla has joined French club Rennes on a 4-year deal. He had a successful loan spell at Turkish club Kayseri Erciyesspor leaving his with many suitors. Two Turkish clubs were linked with Sylla but he has opted to return to France.
Sylla joined Aston Villa in the January transfer window of 2013 for an undisclosed fee of roughly £2 million. There is no information regarding how much Sylla has cost Rennes but I’m sure that he was a cheap transfer.
Overall, Sylla’s career with Aston Villa wasn’t too successful, he made plenty of appearances after first arriving at the club, but struggled to nail down a starting spot the following season. Sylla offered Villa more defensive strength in midfield, but he struggled to score and wasn’t very affected on the offense. Collectively he made 11 appearances in both 2012-13 and 2013-14 season. He struggled to get game time in 2013-14 and was subsequently loaned off at the beginning of this season.
Nonetheless, Sylla is still young (at 24) and will hopefully have a successful stint with Rennes.
