Writing is On The Wall

Ok, so I didn’t get to see the game on Saturday and yes, by all accounts, we were very poor.
That said, I’ve been shocked by the response to the game.
I’m minded to say that this is just a kneejerk reaction after a bad home defeat, but I’ve just re-read the previous article again and it seems there is no-one who has a decent word to say about AVFC at the moment, which I find a little bit sad.
The worrying thing though, is that the very downbeat theme is continued throughout all the Villa sites that I’ve had chance to read; even the ones that are normally extremely positive. So it’s not just us.

While I wanted to post something a bit more up-beat, as it’s still very early days in the season and in my opinion, way too early to make a judgement, there isn’t really much to say.

Hence, while I personally disagree with the following article submitted by Terry Jones, I’m putting it up in line with our policy of all views getting aired, whether we like it or not.

If you don’t like it, feel free to submit your own more favourable post (PLEASE!).
The fact is we simply aren’t getting any at the moment;

Who in their right mind now thinks that Lambert is the right man to manage a big club and are we fans going to put up with his vision of how football should be played or will the worms turn and see what he is doing to out great club?
Yes he has bought young players who may or may not make it and by the looks of things only the odd one or two will. Lambert is about as much good as a manager as a blind man in a fog.
His pathetic excuses of “we will get up and go again” have now wore thin with some of us.

So where are we going from here?
We certainly will not be challenging the so-called Sky four and it’ll be more like fighting for our survival as a premier league team and as a club.
Now that would be a tragic not only for Villa and loyal fans but IMO for midlands football as we have been the underdogs for far too long.

So who is to blame? Randy Lerner, Paul Lambert or the fans who wanted Lambert as manager?
I could blame all three; Randy for wanting to do things on the cheap, the fans who chanted Lambert’s name and last but not least Lambert for selling Randy on the idea of his vision for the club.
I think now however, most of us older fans have come to realise all three are partly responsible but Lambert has got to take most of the blame as he is the one who bought in these players. He is responsible for how the team plays and the tactics employed in each game.
If things do not change soon then there is not much hope left. VP will become a desert void of fans.
No more excuses Lambert change or the club and midlands football will die.

This club as been around for over 100 yrs and in that time have proved to be one of the greatest. Yes, we have had our highs and lows but us football fans need and so does the City of Birmingham, a football club for the next 100 yrs. I won’t be around then but for god’s sake stop killing our club just to satisfy your own ego.

everybody is having a pop at Lambert/Lerner /fatty/ the groundsman, and the kit wash. but its time to have a pop at the real culprits for that disgraceful display i have forced myself to watch it again and all the hard lessons that they learned last season have been forgotten. we got rid of Ireland and Holman(im to good to defend attitude)and replaced them with gabby and wieman. they have got to learn there’s no I in team if i had been playing in defense, midfield, and watched as repeatedly huge holes appeared in front of me there would have been a few words at least when they don’t track back whoever is in midfield automatically get pulled into a bad position. lowton has looked bad this season, not his fault he is our main attacking threat down that side and he has no cover last season vlaar was the only cover which meant he could not do his job and was made to look bad as soon as sylla established his place it freed up both players to play a more natural game and also gave westwood more room and time to do what he does best this is probably one of lamberts biggest tests to either give clear instruction or drop the two offenders

Just to clarify, which two offenders? Gabby and Wiemann or KEA (for Sylla) and Lowton (for Bacuna, presumably)? Sylla in for KEA would help fill a big hole on the right.

I wonder if N’Zogbia is going to see action again for Villa? I wasn’t his greatest fan, he often ran the ball into dead ends and was wasteful (selfish?) with it too.

gabby and wieman they are like headless chickens and are all over the park when we are on the attack but disappear when we need to defend we a’rnt good enough to have 3(4) centre forwards which at times on Saturday was happening sylla will balance the mid three at the moment all we are doing is putting out fires all over the pitch that are our own making

Agreeing that buying cheap players with talent for the short term future isn’t exactly being brainwashed. I agree with what they have done, but what I believed they failed to do is also think of the here and now.

Lionheart is spot on with the players he suggested, I think BAE from Spurs would have been a decent addition too, at least he can defend (better than what we have)

I think Delph can also play further forward, he is getting decent with the ball at his feet, can pick out a pass, create goals but plays too deep imo, Sylla would be a great holding player. 4-4-2 at home, these 2 in the middle with Kozak up top. Not perfect but surely better than a 4-2-4 without any width (what we ended up with Saturday) ?!!?

Yes indeed, its fine buying players for the long term but you don’t throw them all in at once. Also, I don’t believe outside of Benteke and re signing Guzan any of the other signings are top half PL players. Westwood and Lowton seem to be suffering 2nd season syndrome or indeed their new contracts have made them complacent. Who knows but both are massively underperforming.
This team is crying out for 3 things, experience in defence, creativity and width. None of those issues were addressed enough in the window and hence we find ourselves with a similar situation to last season. Relying on the quality of Christian Benteke to pull us out of trouble.

But what I wont do is boo the lads off the park after 1.5 poor games. That is a piss poor attitude.
