Wolves – Villa; Yet another big one.

I seem to have said that a few times lately, but it’s true isn’t it?
It’s got to the state that if we drop any points, it’ll be a massive setback, because there are too many teams that are more consistent than us.

I was really hoping we’d have had at least a couple of outfield players in for this game and the fact that we haven’t is disappointing. I’m not going to get on the club’s back about it, as we all know deals aren’t easy, especially when the clubs don’t want to let them go, as is certainly the case with Lansbury.
So we are where we are and it’s as simple as that.
We can bitch and moan, but it won’t bring them in any quicker and we can only judge at the end of the window, in my opinion. Although sooner rather than later would be vastly better.

So the first thing that comes to mind again is the midfield, isn’t it?
We’re desperate for reinforcements and only have two that are….
You know what I’m going to say, so I won’t bother.
I’m concerned though that a gutless, none creative midfield is going to be going into a Derby game run by one of our ex-managers.
The omens aren’t good.

And then, where are the goals going to come from?.
I’m getting even more repetitive, aren’t I?
I know, but it’s the exact same weaknesses that manifest themselves every game after all.
Which goes back to earlier, where I really thought we’d have got some in quicker. Not so much on Bruces’s part, but certainly the likes of Round, who’s had half a season and can surely see what we’ve seen?

Squads then and on Wolves side, they have Romain Saiss away at the African nations, but Ivan Cavaleiro and Prince Oniangue are both back. Mike Williamson played last week after a long term injury and might feature again.

As for us, nothing’s changed although we can go into the game knowing that we’ll have what looks like a decent goalie. A goalie who might prove to be our most important player over the next couple of games.

You’ve probably worked out what I’m thinking and you’re right.

We have no midfield and an attack that doesn’t score.
It doesn’t take much working out, does it?

I can’t see us getting anything out of this at all.
A derby, when we’re not playing well and lack everything that’s required to win a game?

Wolves to win by two.
I can’t even raise myself to go for the draw.

The only hope is the game can’t be as bad as it was against Spurs, surely?
Here’s a proposal.
Sod playing canny. If we don’t look like winning at half time, there might as well be a major change in formation and we should go for it. Preferably with the kids going balls out, where we’ll really see how good or poor they are.
After all, we all know that if we go one down, we’ve no hope of winning a game, the way we’ve been trying up to now.
So why not try something different?

Bruce won’t do it though, because he knows what will happen.

I really hope that SB doesn’t include Shabby in the starting XI – although on recent history that seems like a forlorn hope.

As you say, without any changes from the last few outings, our only chance of getting a point out of this will be to park the bus…

I’m dreading this lads, 2-0 wolves I cannot see us getting anything from this, we don’t have a forward to get goals, we don’t have a play maker, in fact we are a joke at the minute.has to be wolves game.

Badger – Sadly I’m in your camp and have this horrible feeling about tomorrow. The thought of listening to Lambert crowing post match is more than I can bear.

We are seeing the reality of trying to persuade better players to join us. We are a mid table Championship club and it doesn’t matter how deep Dr. T’s pockets are we aren’t going to persuade Prem players join us. So we have to look to the better Championship players and try and ‘bribe’ them to join us and even that seems to be fraught with difficulty.

In support of what I am saying, according to the Brum Mail our bid for Hourihane equals that if Wednesday but we have offered the guy £28k per week, four times what he currently earns. Unsettle the player to get him on board – I suspect the same with Lansbury.

Ethical? I don’t know but it’s no different to tactics used in the past with our players who other teams wanted to buy.

At least Baker and Jedi are fit which should limit the damage.

If it were me I’d start with Green and Davis up front. At least it would provide something unexpected.

However can’t disagree that it’s not looking good however being the eternal optimist I think we might scrape a draw

    Wolves 1 – 1 Villa

Forest sale to the Yanks has collapsed.

Please Mr. Al Hasawi send Lansbury over by courier ASAP

If that’s true Pat then I would expect the Lansbury deal to go through (to either us or Derby) pretty quickly. I have a lot of empathy for the Forest fans – we’ve already been there and its not nice.

Pat – you’re correct – statement on Forest web site but also Mail now saying there has been a breach of FA rules in the transfer – allegedly Dexter Blackstock who has been negotiating the deal isn’t authorised to do so – whatever that means. Why is it never simple at the Villa!

    Here’s hoping!

i have seen the under 23 or 21 it used to be. i think we have a few prospects. but they are not finished articles by any means. bruce doesn’t like to turn his 1st team into finishing school. he rather have than sent to another on loan. but we do have youngsters coming through. green isnt too far away from championship standards. sellars & davis both have talents, where they fail on is they are not streetwise enough for week in and out football. but they will be. if i was manager, i would blood one of them towards the end of the game, like green he can play the left side role which we are short. ok start with bacuna and bring green on last 20 minutes. same with davis while we are short of a main attacker, he has the game to lead the line, better than gabby does or ever could. again he isnt ready to start, but bring him on last 20 if you can.

game against wolves, well lambert will be rallying his team to revenge him for sure. i wish him luck, for me he was hamstrung by a owner that just didn’t care. in fact lambert was his fallguy. hard to predict this one. really depends on the line ups both field. iam going for 1/1 draw

time for mcormack to step up. good excuse being in the shadows of kodjia, but hes not here now. show the fans why the club paid massive money for you.

Aston Villa could finally seal the transfer of midfielder Henri Lansbury from Sky Bet Championship rivals Nottingham Forest after a takeover deal for The Reds fell through late on Friday evening.

Villa are believed to have seen a transfer offer for the player in excess of £3 million accepted by Forest however a possible deal was rumoured to be on hold until the completion of an American consortium’s takeover of The Reds.

The takeover talks at The City Ground have now ended and current Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi has confirmed that the deal has collapsed much to the disappointment of the club’s long suffering fans.

The Birmingham Mail have now reported that Aston Villa’s move for Lansbury could be hurried to completion with Forest possibly in need of the funds to strengthen their squad after a transfer embargo was lifted by the English Football League.

Lansbury joined Forest in August 2012 from Premier League club Arsenal in a deal believed to be worth £1 million. The midfielder has gone on to make 150 appearances for The Reds scoring 33 goals. The player is out of contract at The City Ground in the summer and Forest could choose to cash in on the player to prevent losing him as a free agent.

The midfielder is not expected to feature for Forest in their match against Birmingham City at St Andrews on Saturday.
