Reading the news, it seems that the speculation has moved on from “if the Villa go down” to “what’ll happen when they do?”
And it’s a fair question, seeing as the odds for us staying up are probably on a par with Leicester winning the league at the start of the season.
Which reminds me; did you hear about the Leicester fan who had a punt on his team winning the league and has cashed out for £72k, when he had an ultimate £200k to win? Tough one that, but fair play to him for having the balls to make the punt in the first place.
But I digress and transfers this summer is an interesting subject.
There’s already major speculation, with the likes of Gabby gone for a start.
But in his case, you have to ask who would match his £65-70k wages (if true), even if we gave him away for nothing?
I can’t even see the MLS or Chinese mugs falling for that one, given his goal-scoring record over the last few years.
Apparently, we’re going to sell all the French contingent too, but I’d suggest that they’ve been amongst our better players this season and we should be looking to keep them over certain others.
Not that we have many players who I think could stand up to the rigours of the Championship, but we need to retain some decent players, surely?
Richards will probably get a move, even at his stupid wages and we’ll probably give Lescott away to the MLS.
Grealish going at £5 mill to West Ham? I can’t see that one myself, as he isn’t going to be on mega, club-bankrupting bucks, but if he does want to leave, good riddance, in my opinion. He hasn’t proven to be as good as he thinks up to now, but that said, more might depend on if Garde stays or not. And you just know that letting him go might prove another mistake along Cahill lines or worse.
There is one certainty though and that is that N’Zogbia will be gone.
I’ve always liked the player, but he has to go down as probably the worst signing the club has ever made, even with Balaban and Djembas included. Just shocking and something which probably sums up what’s happened to us over the last few years.

As for the Prem’s £30 cap on away tickets, it doesn’t really matter to us, at least next season anyway, does it?

what players we keep debate is something that has been worrying me all season, remi if we plugged into a liar liar machine. i think he would not keep any thing but maybe gana and the injured left back amavi. all the rest are certainly not up to his standards or ours.

Also not bothered about Grealish and I’m all for a clear out but we need to hang on to the few half decent players we have, Ayew and Gana are amongst these.
Couldn’t blame anyone wanting to leave us though, talk about a sinking ship.
Always speculation on who will go from a relegated club but the reality is never as ‘bad’ as the speculation. Even in the championship I believe wages will be a match for some of the European sides and ultimately any employee looks at his take home pay!
Of the ‘French contingent’, I would like to see Ayew and Gana retained as I think they would do OK in the championship. It’s unlikely that Amavi will leave in the summer after being out injured for so long but could be a January target if we are in the soft stuff again.
Lescott will go to the MLS and if we can get £5m for Richards so be it.
Of more worry are the players that should go but no one will want!
Oh and we should not sell Grealish nor should we allow Gardener to go to Forest on a permanent deal.
Hope they all go no loss to us. We will struggle next yr whether we keep them or not. Ayew only scored about 3 goals
Traore won’t go anywhere he’s a crock barca stitched us up with him. The only player I’d keep for next season is Gestede and Armavi. Gestede will do well in championship imo
I think the sadder point is players in the under 21s that will be forced out, young full back kinsella who’s out on loan at Kidderminster at the moment his contract is up soon are they going to offer him a new deal ? He’s been fantastic in the reserves this year, come on a bundle in my opinion but if they get rid of people like him there’s only one way we’re going to go !!
Everyone can speculate just like the media do, but to be honest no one but the club will know who and what will be the future plan.
One thing for sure is from the King interview, the door is open for Gardi to stay and re-build, I guess if the three monkeys are sacked he might just think about staying, however if any of them are still there he will walk.
The players which need to go should be Richardson, Gabby, Lescott, Bacuna. I think we should hang on to Hutton cause at least he shows passion and if he can brush that on to the French players we might be OK. Gardener needs to be selected for first team, as should some of the others out on loan.
As for the young players, if the club is to survive then they need to keep the investment continuing along with the push for them to break into first team players.
VTID, like your thinking, nobody at this time knows what’s happening yet, all our young blooded youth should be given that chance to shine with us , not other clubs to make £sd , that’s been our downfall at Villa not giving youth a go. Keep Grealish, and yes players that play for the shirt.

Any player we can sell at a profit will be sold… Any player who’s wages are too high due to our awful transfer ‘committee’ we will keep as they enjoy the easy lifestyle and no other club wants them…. Grealish has been the epitome of “too much too soon”. A great shame, he is local and has a rare talent, but he does not seem to have the self-discipline to shun the Chav’s behaviour of the stereotype. It might be better for him to move away from Birmingham to get a fresh start.
All the players contracts will have a relegation = re-negotiation break clause, so the opportunity is there to sack every one of them. Apart from Gestede, who needs to play with a decent right winger and we have not had one, Amavi and Traore who were injured early on and did play with some spark before succumbing, I hope the club sack the rest. To start next season with any of the current squad would be like clearing out the fridge bar two mouldy items. When refilling the new stuff gets infected. The current squad are used to losing.
I would like to see all the youth squad players given a crack next year, it should not be as difficult as breaking into a premiership squad.
Maybe Grealish does need a new start – but in London given your observation of his difficulties in exercising self discipline?
The temptations will be there, it will be up to him to resist them. I think the only London team where he would fit in is the Hammers, but there is supposed to be a big culture change coming at Chelsea, so there might be an opening there.
A rare talent? Based on what? A handful of good performance for the youth team? One wonder goal in some tin pot competition in Hong Kong two years ago?

Anyway you look at those figures reinforces the poor job the Board are doing. Fox hasn’t even covered his salary through the increase in commercial revenue – the area within which he has a proven track record with Arsenal and wages appear to have increased through a combination of additional staff, players wages and compensation for termination of contracts. All points to an under performing business that is out of control. No wonder Hollis and King are undertaking a wide ranging review.
On a separate point, not sure how transfer fees are accounted for – I assume a purchase is treated as a balance sheet item with allowable write off over a period of time through the accounts and a sale creates revenue accountable as an exceptional item of income accountable in the same tax year. – if anyone can explain as the Mail article doesn’t make any reference to treatment of transfers or any other capital item so can only assume that they haven’t materially varied from the previous year’s accounts.
