Vlaar and Delph – The transfer window UPDATED 31.12.2014 17:16

I do enjoy the transfer windows and apologise in advance for the increased posting during this period.

Delph and Vlaar are the ever mentioned players to be leaving this during the January window. With rumours that Liverpool want to duck in and steal the pair for 15m, Tottenham in a part buy/swap for Delph and united after a bit of concrete for their back wall; it all seems inevitable and why not, they are on the last leg of their contract and with all the speculation and supposed competition, we could capitalise on the sales and ideally spend that money to make our team stronger and more dedicated to the future.

But this is all just talk and unitil the Window official opens and the bids role in, it still rumoured. TribalFootball quotes Lambert speaking about a conversation with Lerner regarding the matter

I’ve told him I don’t want anyone to go. He just leaves it with me. He will ask my opinion on it and then leave it on me.”

Lambert was then questioned about having the final say

Yes , I’m pretty sure.

This is all well and good, but if a player wants to leave, has 6 months left on the contract and is forced to stay; we will ultimately be the ones losing out.

Vlaar has also spoken up on the situation,

There was interest, but not of the calibre of clubs where I wanted to leave Aston Villa for

In regards to Manchester United, he went on to say

As a club I really wish I had, I would have noticed that. That has not been addressed

It feels like it is going to be a bumpy ride, but I hope it is much smoother than all the talk is making out. My personal feeling is that Vlaar should leave and we should cash in on him as much as possible because I am now confident with the CB’s we have and honestly could not have said that before the season started.

I would also like to see the back of Delph, especially if he is intent on leaving anyway because I honestly feel like his is over rated and this is causing other players to be over shadowed. Additionally, with all the hype built up around the pair due to international duty, we could honestly push for a nice return from the duo which could be put into a new striker and attacking midfield.

To save all the additional news posting, here is a little look at what Delphs rumoured potential replacement is capable of

I’d like to see what materialised if a deal was done with spuds,I’d hope they’d throw in holtby in maybe out the question nice thought.yes delph is overrated & to get in the England set up now that shows the depths English footy has become.vlaar couldn’t give a FUCK where he went hope we cash in a good sum though.

    happy new year villa fans

delph and vlaar what should we do with them, well i think flog to the highest bidder, what is the money, we should be looking for, if the cleverley deal runs out this summer and we are dumb enough to waste 8 mill, then both vlaar and delph should be in the bracket of 10mill each.

we have been disrespected by the fa, for the ridiculous fine they imposed.anybody see the newcastle forward, elbow a defender other week, three times, he landed a elbow or tried to land and was banned after the game as ref didn’t see it amazingly, 3 match ban same as the delph slightly dangerous tackle, that didn’t injure anyone or a yellow on westwood that saw him injured

anyone think delph owes it to villa to fook off in this transfer window, after we splashed out a good fee for him and of the 5 years he been at villa, hes been injured for the most. vlaar is different hes served us well and is nearing his end of his career so needs a decent contract and maybe lerners not prepared to offer

Tis the season for shit rumours tralalalala lala lala………..

This windows going to seem a long one.

They will only leave for a better team and game time. Vlaar to gooners maybe as they’re struggling at the back with injuries and Ze German on bad form and feck knows where Delph will make an impact.

Clubs won’t pay over the odds either so I’m reluctant to think they’ll move at all.

Either way I’m not really bothered as long as we buy an established creative AM (not an unfit ageing has been) and maybe a 6yd box striker like Ings.

I agree mate. Benteke is great with his feet and dropping deep and when supplied is a force aerially but he’s never in that damn poachers spot when you need him to be!!!!

Be surprised if we get Ings, think Burnley would rather let him go for free and have him attempt to keep them up. At least they can give him the reason that if he can keep a team like Burnley up, then he’ll definitely get a great contract somewhere.

Creativity is a need be though, be it winger or attacking midfielder. I’m not quite sure Lambert would be willing to separate his 4-3-3 when Cleverley, Delph and Sanchez/Westwood are fit though. Though this doesn’t seem likely to actually happen any time soon that all are able to play.

It’s going to be a fun ride. Not worried if Delph or Vlaar go, would rather keep the latter as despite him being injury prone, he’s still quality. We’ve yet to sell anyone under Lambert of real importance which does give the clue we definitely won’t be doing that in January.

And that’s exactly why one of the ‘big(ger)’ clubs won’t come in for him. Their fans would be underwhelmed with such a signing 🙂 I would prefer to keep Vlaar ( for his experience and leadership qualities if nothing else) than Delph who I really don’t rate at all – poor control, runs in circles, can’t pick a forward pass, can’t shoot and is rash in the tackle – did I miss anything? 🙂

well good job we can agree to disagree, while vlaar has missed games hes been outstanding defender and without him we would be playing championship already. this season players like clark and baker have improved, okore and sendross we have cover, plus wingbacks hutton and cissokho theirs strength and experience. where for the last 2 seasons vlaar has held a weak inexperienced back 4 together with some good performances with muppets to the left and right of him

If they want away let them go and cash in on them. I think we have enough cover for Viaar at CB. Delphi over rated then again with a different manager he could be a star. I see the papers have linked us to Fulham CM. Only problem is will he step up to the Prem.

sunderland was first game of season clark played with vlar so dont think you use vlar for clark improving ,yes our fullbacks are better but god lambert has only played about 10 different ones, sell vlar delph in january for what ever they can get and if not throw them in bomb squad he did with hutton who wanted to play

clark has played and trained along side vlaar for the time vlaars been at the club, 3 YEARS isn’t it, so if hes not learned from a international player of vlaars standards god help him. you have no idea what your talking about. i haven’t said not to sell also so what are you going on about

Throw them in the bomb squad when they want to play but may not want to be at Villa by the summer? What kind of ridiculous notion is that? “Oh, you don’t wanna stay? Then you can’t play”. That would be awful management.

I can see us selling Delph in Jan as we cant afford to lose a young international player on a free transfer. I think Vlaar will end up staying though and even maybe signing another contract if we do better in the second half of the season.

I would love to see us sign Ings, but I think a midfielder is more likely for now, especially with Kozak coming back soon too. The lad from Fulham is a realistic target. Maybe we could try and fob Bent off back to them!

Come the summer though, depending on which teams go down (and that we dont) there will be some good players available.

I’ve claimed Lambert’s an awful manager since the first day he arrived.

And a bit of respect? If my memory serves me correctly, he’s never once complained about Villa, or claimed he’s leaving. However while he’s vastly overrated and not our best player like some fans seem to think, he’s still good and has ambitions and if the club doesn’t meet what he wants, then why the hell would he stay if he gets a better offer?

vlaars so bad as you claim, why is liverpool arsenal and man utd coveting him. who knows what will happen during the transfer window. cause hes older clubs tend to wait, until their contacts run out and then offer um bumper deals. truth is you player judgment is a little bad like your eyes, if you if hes such a bad player.

also i never said not to sell either player, so explain what is your beef. arguments are best when the two debating sides have a different point of view

I bet West Brom end up finishing above us with the excellent appointment of Toby Pulis.
Normally when a new manager comes in results usually pick up.
Sadly, in his 3rd season, we are still waiting for that to happen under Lambert!!!!

Being linked to Yaya Sanogo, he’d certainly help with the goals in the short term and would be a shrewd move.

i have heard this before, arsenal are after loaning him for experience. he reminds me of a younger kanu, he isn’t a goal scorer on the evidence i av seen, but hes awkward to defend against and own team mates aren’t sure on what hes likely to do next

i prefer the midfield strengthening, a younger cole with legs would make a whole big difference

I think we have a younger Cole, if anything he looks better than Cole.. That would be Jack Grealish.

i also agree the kid grealish needs to be given the shirt and told just go and do your stuff, nobody can doubt he has something different to offer than the other midfielders we play week in and out. you could keep the three midfielders even and play in the weimann role or gabby

needs to given a chance to shine, start the lad, instead of him coming into a match where ur down to ten men or chasing a game

Think we were linked to a loan move with Sanogo in the summer but he was injured so fell through Don ‘t really know much about him but Wenger clearly rates him.

Wenger’s one of those guys who won’t give up on players no matter what. Look at Wilshere. Hasn’t even come close to living up to potential, in fact he’s only gotten incredibly worse and yet he’s insistent on playing him. I guess it did work at one time for Ramsey so maybe. He also insists on that Polish keeper I can’t spell the name of and he’s also a very average keeper most teams wouldn’t have as first choice in the Prem.
