It’s a funny old game isn’t it?
A few years ago, we’d have said there was no chance of Steve Bruce ever managing the Villa, but that’s exactly where we are today.
I for one am happy about it.
Why? Because I feel he’s a much better manager than Roberto Di Matteo and being realistic, I’m not really sure that we could have got anyone “better”.
So what do I think Bruce will bring to the current Villa side?
Well, I’ve said previously that he’ll bring a system which should resolve the complaint that the players didn’t really know what they were meant to be doing.
He’ll also bring a bit of passion, which for me, was a major failing on RDM’s part. I’m not sure how much difference the manager waving his arms about and shouting makes to the team, but it’s certainly something I like to see.
And at least it looks like we’re trying to do something specific.
While I’m happy that we’ve got Bruce in, I’m also a bit concerned about this game. It’s another important one, made bigger by the fact that it’s against one of our local rivals and the thought of losing worries me. Not just because it’s a derby, but because I want the manager to get off on the right footing. To get the fans onside from the off.
A win is not an easy task these days though, as I’m sure I read somewhere that we’ve won five games in fifty four. Jeez, I knew it was bad, but that sort of pushes it home doesn’t it?
Fortunately, I’m a lot more confident that we’ll win under Bruce than I would have been under RDM.
The trouble is, the manager has only had a couple of days to look at the players and that’s not ideal preparation.
Hence I don’t think the personnel will change much. Indeed, I don’t believe the team that has been played previously has really been that far away from our best eleven, most of the time.
So given that we all know we have weaknesses in the midfield and in defence, it’s going to be more about organising and instructions.
Bruce has said there are going to be changes and it’ll be interesting to see what team he puts out. Or more accurately, how he plays them, especially up front. He likes a 3-5-2 and RDM tried it to no good effect, but I wonder if Bruce will do the same? Certainly the midfield needs beefing up, in my opinion.
Personally I think the changes he was talking about will come in January, as it’s blatantly obvious where our weaknesses are.
Anyway, given that I’m more confident I have to go for a win today. I’m more hoping than convinced though, as a winning mentality isn’t going to come overnight.

Wolves have been better in every single way today, we can barely string a pass together, what goes on at Bodymoor?
Absolutely, they ripped us a new arsehole in the second half and showed how the game should be played, pace, power and running. How they didn’t rack up a cricket score is beyond me.
Glad to get the point worrying times ahead me thinks the January window can’t come quick enough

A hot mess we are, but finally a bit of luck. Upset with how we played, especially in the second half, but thrilled not to concede a late goal. Richards, Jedinak looked tired and off the pace. Chester easily could have been sent off.
Imo chester was our motm yea he rode his luck but by far our best player. Richards is just f**king w**k.
As soon as Wolves went direct we lost control of the game, Chester and Elphick were both solid today considering the pressure in the second half. Richards, Cissokho both absolutely piss poor imo.
That lad Costello (I think) and Corey were awesome, why can’t we find players that put a shift in life that?
Well easy with Richards defending – I saw him more than once just watching the game pass him by. I think we have a few, Kodja and McCormack were lively, although they can’t be the only ones pressing. We have the players to fill in but how SB finds a balance I’m not sure. Amavi could come in for Cissokho, Bacuna could fill in for Richards, not ideal I know, but with Elphick gone for probably the next game I wouldn’t be surprised if SB goes defensive in the short-term.
fuck me we are in trouble , Bruce is probably saying to himself WTF did I get myself into. I agree it needs to be a busy transfer window .
Well perhaps SB is a lucky manager after all. How we got a point out of that is utterly astounding.

Games can swing on little incidents and Kodjia being greedy in the first half when he could have passed it to McCormick who would have easily scored was one. No vision and no idea.
Anyway we’re out of the bottom 3 and I can only hope that SB and his backroom boys start lining the team up and give then a collective kicking up the arse.
Only problem is we’ve now got 3 hard games coming up so he’d better work quickly. Come on Mr. Potato head and work some magic.
Pat that’s so one eyed Wolves took us to the cleaners in that second half – games hinge on little things don’t apply here they smashed us and how that didn’t end up 1-3 or 1-4 is beyond me. There’s a massive gap between us and Wolverhampton wanderers and although I can’t believe I’m saying that it’s true, we’re so disorganized, void of ideas and impotent in attack it’s embarrassing.

Can’t disagree about the second half but would Wolves have been so pumped up if they’d been 2-1 down? I doubt it.
Problem is with us than when we face a bit of pressure we back off and play in the last third. Bruce has to stop them doing this,we need to hold a higher line but for me the key is mid-field. If we had one creative player in there who could make the killer link up pass from mid-field to McCormack or Kodjia we’d be alright.Has to be SB’s top priority.
I disagree Pat Wolves were better than us in every department and showed a desire and drive we can only dream of, we were absolute pants mate.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the teams day off tomorrow is cancelled so he’ll have an extra day of training before Tuesday just a thought

To right Bill always second to the ball, let them get 11 behind the ball when ever we attacked (not that that was very often) and played long balls up to a five foot f**kall centre forward… Brilliant!
