Villa – Newcastle; Possibly the biggest game of the season

I’m worried about today.
We face Newcastle at home and the truth is I don’t have the foggiest idea about how this game is going to go.

It’s easy to take a pessimistic view and look at our form compared to the opposition’s and assume it’s all over before we kick a ball. But we should at the same time remember that Wolves managed to turn them over on their own patch.

So while the barcodes are a decent side, they are by no means unbeatable.
But what worries me, is that the longer we go without a win, so the self-doubt surely has to start creeping in and getting a result is going to become more and more difficult.
We need the breakthrough three points, it’s as simple as that.

Tshibola should be fit for this one but Nathan Baker, Ross McCormack and Rudy Gestede all face fitness tests.

Newcastle have Yurdun Anita in the middle of a three match ban, but I’m not sure how much of a problem that will be as they’ve used more players this season than any other side. Which is a bit more worrying if they’re doing so well and Benitez hasn’t settled on his best team yet.

The press seem determined to try and create some fierce rivalry between the clubs and I really can’t say I care for it.
We’re two respected clubs who have never really had any problem, a bit of banter apart and that’s how I’d like it to stay. Mick Quinn trying to fan any flames doesn’t help and the ony comment I’d have for him is “shut up, you fat git”, which is what I most remember about him when he played.

So while I don’t know what to think, I’m going to stay positive and believe that we can win this.
Actually, that reads wrong, as I believe we can beat anybody in this league. It’s actually achieving it, that is proving the problem.

I’ll predict a 2-1. And hope it’s in our favour.

There’s also the question of Jack Grealish and what we think of his latest partying situation.
I’m adding a belated poll, but the truth is I’m not sure what the question should be.

    To me its not right to say get rid, if a manager cannot control him then the manager needs to take a look at himself, take Joey Barton, Georgie Best and a few more like Gaza and co wild cards all of them but great footballers to any team, no a weak man in the middle needs to do things like fines ,bench, and obscuring from the media.imo

    @Bill
    Jack’s a distraction and a potentially negative influence on the side. Its the morning of a big match and look who we’re talking about. He’s old enough to make his own decisions and if I was RDM I’d make it clear that any more and he’d find himself on loan to someone like Accrington for quite a spell.

    Getting on to the match I’ll be watching on Sky and almost wish they hadn’t televised the game. I’ll be watching from behind the sofa and TBH expecting the worst.

    A draw is looking like a really good result to me right now.

    Here’s hoping anyway

    Pat,
    I agree that punishment needs to come on him and hard, but from what I see from him is still to come but only if he knuckles down to football.I will also be behind the sofa with fingers crossed , and the best I can see is a draw on this game.

    A win today could kickstart our season, it will give us fans and the club a big Lift. I think it will be a draw ,but we really need 3pts .
    Grealish he needs a good kick up the back side. I would use him as an impact sub he needs the mature on and of the field . If he is in the team and scores the winner all is forgiven . Until he starts doing his talking on the pitch there are fans like me that will be on his back.

    Back to the game it will be interesting to see what team RDM puts out, we need a strong midfield today . Come on the Villa.

      when your options are wastwood ans gg for centre midfield it s not a wonder rdm was going 424 bypass midfield altogether

      Yep;

      Sels, Yedlin, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett, Ritchie, Shelvey, Hayden, Gouffran, Diame, Gayle

      Subs: Darlow, Lazaar, Hanley, Tiote, Atsu, Perez, Mitrovic

      So no Grealish and Adomah starts in what looks like a fluid 5-3-2.

    Christ, Kodjia really should have scored there.
    Very pedestrian start, which winds me up.
    Even if it’s only a few mins in.

    Early days, we just need time to gel. 🙂

    What crap we are on the ball.

    When you’ve got Westwood in the middle, you’ve no chance of getting any supply to attack.

    We’re sitting too deep and need to take it too them already.
    Shocking management, even this early on in the game.
