Villa – Man city; Are we ready for this?

Citeh

It’s all about the goals isn’t it?

Man city come to Villa park today having scored 26 of them, whereas we’ve averaged a measly 0.6 per home game this season, a figure that’s to be honest, rubbish.
Hence you would think that’s going to be the theme of today’s game; how many can they score? and how many can we prevent?

Fortunately, football isn’t always that easy to predict, so while you never know, we might get something out of the game. But it’s looking doubtful isn’t it?

Man city have a few injuries.
Sergio Aguero is out, as are David Silva, Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta.
That’d be a major loss for most clubs, but they have plenty in reserve.
Gael Clichy and hissing Delph are back in contention and it’ll be interesting to see if the latter manages to rub the splinters from his backside. No doubt he might get a run-out if we’re getting caned, but I don’t really want to talk about him.

As for Villa, I believe there’s a chance Westwood might not have got over the knock he got on the head the other night, but the interesting one is Gabby. There doesn’t seem to have been any news about him; not that I’m looking for any.
Otherwise, I think we’re all good.

So the question we’re all asking is who is Remi Garde going to play? and how is he going to play them?
Ayew and on reflection, Sinclair and Sanchez looked decent on Monday, so I’d expect them to start.
As for the rest, well your guess is as good as mine.
Likewise how we’re going to set up.
Garde likes a 4-4-2, so perhaps we’ll see Gestede with Ayew up top? I don’t know.

The bigger problem for the manager is the defence, but he hasn’t had much time to work with the team, so I’m not expecting much to have changed in that area.
Richards will probably get straight back in after his suspension, but who will he play with? I don’t think many of us would choose Lescott, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
While I know many of us would like to see massive changes throughout the team, I’m not convinced we’re going to get them, if only for the reason that Garde won’t want to change it up too much.
Not that that would be a very valid reason. The team’s been messed about with all season, so I doubt it would make much difference.
Whatever, I just hope Garde chooses those who’ve looked best in training, which is about all we can ask.

Looking at the form, Man city are going really well and they were apparently very good against Sevilla mid-week.
And we all know where we are, so I won’t harp on it.

My head says something like a 4-1 loss, which is what I’m going for, but my heart says we can do better than that and at least hold the score down for something like a 1-2.

Far better shape and far better tactics than the last dimwit had us doing! Richards and Clark need to calm down and not make runs forward though wtf are they thinking? I don’t mind that we’re not just hitting the ball in at every opportunity, city’s CB pairing are the best in the league so waiting for the right opportunity while keeping possession is the best option, I would be delighted with a 0-0 today!

Time for a change I think, looking tired now.

  7. Desperate for a different outlet to Gil, who has had a great game but he can’t hold off a single City player, nor is he quick enough to get past them. Counter attacking made for Traore this game who’s stronger and quicker.

  8. We have played well but so much ball carrying means that the midfield is looking tired already. Some greatv defence (blocking) but dreading that mistake that will cost us.

  9. 5-6 great chances to get it into the box and we decide to go backwards. It’s ridiculous.

    Jeez, that was close.
    Zoggy for Gil.

  12. It would take N’Zogbia to be the first player to cross.

    Sinclair off.

  15. Surprised as Veretout especially looks tired.

What a tackle Clark. He’s been very good today.

I thought it was going to be Veretout too.

    1. Would’ve thought Grealish would come on for Sinclair, allowing N’Zogbia to play out on the right and cut in. Although I prefer him on the left crossing.
