Paul Lambert surely enjoys signing new forwards, he’s already signed Benteke, Bowery, Helenius and most recently Kozak. Between all our forwards, Villa have only managed to score 14 goals collectively. That’s not a very high goal tally considering that a few forwards in the Premier League have scored more goals on their own. Yet, my biggest worry is that our forwards don’t even look like scoring (exception of Agbonlahor). Benteke hasn’t scored since September and he is really struggling. Against Sheffield United Albrighton offered so many quality crosses to Benteke but he failed to put any of those opportunities into the net. Kozak wasn’t doing to badly, scored 4 goals despite never looking like a major threat on the pitch. Weimann has been a shadow of the player he was last season, his only real asset has been 3 assists this season, still pretty poor season. But most recently Agbonlahor has done well, he’s now scored two goals in a row. The difference between Agbonlahor and the rest is the fire in his belly. He chases the ball, he pressures the defenders and most importantly he tries to get into open spaces, he want’s to make things happen.
I feel as though Nicklas Helenius is a player that could make a real difference for Aston Villa, at the age of 23 I don’t think he’s too inexperienced. He’s the same age as Benteke for christ sake! He scored his first goal for the club against Sheffield United last weekend and it was a well taken goal as well. On current form it would be a no-brainer to start Agbonlahor and Helenius together. The perfect combination of pace, power and technical ability. But do fans realistically predict that’ll happen? I surely don’t.
In the wake of the January transfer window I’d like to quickly point at Everton. Martinez went out and got three quality players on loan which have made a massive difference to their team: Lukaku, Barry and Deulofeu. I don’t think that Aston Villa need another forward on a permanent deal. We’ll have Kozak back next season and Helenius will be older, so what’s the point of getting another forward in? The loan market is the most logical way to go. However it can also be the most difficult route to go. It’ll be difficult to find a quality striker that a club would be willing to loan out for the remainder of the season.
A new forward (on loan) is absolutely necessary if Aston Villa want to finish the current campaign strong. Currently we are not scoring goals and with Agbonlahor and Benteke injury prone Villa could really suffer if either one of the forwards got injured long-term. But a new striker could also bring in more confidence into a team.
Soz the midfield is a priority to me,basically we haven’t got one.so what’s the point in bringing yet another striker in.they need the amunition to fire.yes poor performances upfront isn’t good,but hopefully with an improved midfield service to the forwards will produce the goals.i do believe benteke is a one season wonder now you can bite my head off.
I reckon Lambert will sign some good midfielders. I like the players we’ve been linked with so far. Plus, there is a ITK that Lewis Holtby might be joining Aston Villa on loan or on a permanent deal. I like that Lambert is looking at older players with more experience. It would really balance the Aston Villa side.
But we need strikers that can take chances, I don’t think Weimann has done that too well. Benteke needs confidence, but generally he has fallen apart this season.
Midfield is a priority but it doesn’t stop us looking at forwards. It’s not as if the manager has been told he can only bring in one player who has to be either/or is it?
Adam it’s clear lamberts vision of the young & hungry approach has fallen flat on it’s face.experience is the only way.the holtby link im not holding my breath on that one mate.

Transfer windows amaze me – Not only linked with Hoolihan, Defour, Lescott and Holtby but now Samaras…!!! Imagining getting them all, it would make one hell of a difference. Although, according to sources at Norwich, they have said they REFUSE to do any business involving Paul Lambert, haha

That would explain all the recent Holtby talk. I’m sure Lambert is targeting a CAM that has some sort of Premier League experience so they can quickly adapt to the side.
The Holtby link makes sense though, he isn’t in Sherwood’s plans, he doesn’t fi the 4-4-2 formation and Sherwood wants to recall Kane which would take Holtby lower down the pecking order
So I read but again, it could all be speculation, like it all is atm. Holtby would be decent, as would Lescott. On the talksport website we have apparently been in contact with a £6m bid for him, with Villa wanting City contributing towards his wages up until the end of the season….make of it what you will!!!

I have never heard a more incoherent Villa Manager. Prior to the last two Gorbals boys, Villa bosses could talk the hind leg off a donkey, so we knew what they hoped to do about strengthening the squad. With Lambert it seems we have no more clue than he has.
Other posts have it exactly the midfield is hopeless and that is restricting the strikers. Delph is our best midfield player right now. Ouch! Anyone who remembers seeing Rioch, Bremner, Mortimer and Cowans play will know how far off the standard we have fallen.
Talk Sport are saying we are talking to Man City about Lescott and willing to pay 6M..

I think whatever happens this window I think we need to have a massive turnaround in the players we sign in the summer. I can see and have heard that there will probably be more loans than perms this window which will only mean that even if we do kick on after the window and put performances in due these loans, that we will only be back to square one again in the summer. So yes, go for loans to patch the wholes at the moment, but for Christ sake when It comes to the summer, buy some players with abit of class and energy! More signings of okores calibre please

United were linked in 2011 & 2012, with Defour turning offers down – Not seen or heard anything this season. He’s not of the quality they require to get them back to where they were

Spot on saddened I know for an absolute fact lescott won’t be coming because of his wages the same reason Barry wouldn’t. Hoolahan is a possibility because he is cheap but dalfour is complete and utter bollox like wanyama was in the summer. Definitely not happening trust me.
I can’t think of another club in the Premier that filters out so much crap around window time, that rarely comes true, they really are just so far removed from the fans its unreal.

on the forward topic what happened to the giudette talk, that lad must be itching to get out and prove his worth rotting away in the city squad. last I heard stoke and swans chasing him, no mention of villa. I know we’re not keen on taking on young players from ‘top’ teams on loan but in this case with kozacs break I think it’d be a good move and fits lamberts ‘young and hungry’ philosophy coz the lad must be starving at the moment. and if it don’t work out nothing lost.
I think hoolahan is coming in on a three year deal. He is not a world beater but what i saw of him last season he was very hard to handle. Not scared of running with the ball and putting defenders under pressure. Now Please Lamberk sign a fucking LB of some quality,
Morgan…Bertrand is available. He is an excellent LB. He is just unlucky to have 2 internationals in front of him at Chelsea. Would be a great signing IMO!

Disagree. We have one of the best centre forwards in the league, he’s just a little off form. Normally he would have banged in 3 at the weekend. We also have Weimann, Gabby and Helenius…that is enough forwards. We are desperate for decent midfielders, and if Vlaar cant stay fit, another centre back.
We haven’t scored many goals is not because our forwards aren’t any good, it’s because of the service they receive. Also our formation and playing players out of position doesn’t help. Weiman and gabby, Kodak, helanius and bent eek as with bent are full on forwards that thrive on good service that we don’t give. Get a couple of wingers and 3 solid midfielders in and then we are sorted.
Just been reading about Narki Wells, 91 appearance 42 goals plays for Bradford City, age 21forward, 5.7” do we need another forward? We need a midfield, winger, plus defender, what’s he looking for.
Well he can score against our defence. Doesn’t mean much unfortunately!
