Villa – Derby; It’s all about goals isn’t it?

God, I’ve been dreading writing my thoughts on this one.
I’ve put it off and put it off, but now I’ve no choice, as I’m going to be working so will miss the game.

What to say?

Well I’d love to come on here with a massive burst of positivity and a strong gut feeling that we’re going to win 3-0 or similar.
But do any of us think that’s going to happen?

The title’s stupid really isn’t it?
Yet it sums up how quite easy the game is. The team that scores the most goals wins, it’s as simple as that.
And that’s why I’m struggling to see any positivity.

I’ll do some boring form stuff first and it’s scary.

Over the last ten games, we’re 23rd in the form table, with the 3rd worst goal difference.
Over the last six games, we’re 23rd in the form table, with the 2nd worst goal difference.
Take Rotherham, who for me are definite goners, out of the equation and it’s worse.

Fair enough, Kodjia hasn’t been here, but I’ll go into that in a mo.

Derby on the other hand, while not doing as well as I instinctively thought, have the following form;
Over the last ten games, they’re 18th in the form table, but their goal difference is 9 goals better.
Over the last six games, they’re 12th in the form table, but their goal difference is 11 goals better.

Bloody hell, I’m bored with that myself now.
Suffice to say, Derby are in the ascendancy and we’re in the proverbial.

From the OS;
Scott Hogan will be out for three-five weeks after spraining his ankle while fellow forwards Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Gabriel Agbonlahor are still two weeks away from being available.

Basically it’s getting worse isn’t it?
Where are the goals going to come from, seeing as Kodjia is our only fit striker?
The same Kodjia, who many berate for being too greedy.

Because the midfield don’t look remotely like providing them, maybe Adomah apart.

So being realistic, it’s looking unlikely we’ll score, as we are massively reliant on Kodjia.

Ah, I’ll tell you what, I’m seriously struggling to carry on here.

Tomorrow is going to be about damage limitation, it’s as simple as that.
We don’t score enough, have one fit striker and concede far too many stupid goals, because of a piss-poor defence.
And we’re looking at Samba, who couldn’t cut it in Greece? You think our current defenders are slow?

Brolly man will be chomping at the bit.
Yet some are expecting 6-7 points from our next 3 games?
I seriously think Rotherhan might do us.

0-2.
If we’re lucky.
I think I’m going to be glad I can’t watch it.

There’s often a fine line between pessimism and realism Badger.

This isn’t one of those times.

Our form is dire and I can’t see it changing against Derby. At this point in the season, with the new players we signed in the summer, then again in January, you just have to hope that at some point it all clicks. I’ll believe it when I see it…

I remember earlier in the year pre-Preston a mate said to me, this will be the game where all our promising performances and luck will come together and we will win 5-0. It didn’t happen.

We have another chance vs a terrible Rotherham fairly soon, minus the promising performances. Again, I’ll believe it when I see it.

    I’ll go 1-3

    iam with bws

villa will turn it on today. villa 4 derby 1. i have no confidence in this prediction. so i wont be rushing to bookies.

i was just reading about tinkerman getting the sack. totally agree with hitchens sentiments. i also read somewhere we have had 22 coaches (backroom)since i think they said sherwood. i would love somebody to maybe confirm this or correct this. seems a hell of a lot of chopping and changing at villa. maybe we could have the good ppl writing these blogs, to use this as topic. we have chopped and changed too much over 1 year 2 years etc or not enough ??? could somebody name all the managers and coaches, would be a good game without google

about the game i hope kodija is fit, sooner rather than ltrs the team will gel, i am going for today. i saw some good things against newcastle, albeit in the first 20 minutes, but with the crowd behind them, today we will get the 3 points

I don’t know?, I’ve lost confident in Villa full stop, with the thought of internal problems now being banded about I’m at a loss, puts my mind back to them two coaching staff that got sacked for being bullies makes me wonder if they knew things we didn’t. got a feeling that internal part of Villa doing what they like.We had better win otherwise I see large number of fans turning on Bruce. Draw at the best all I can see.

Reading the minutes of the fans forum meeting and the report of Wyness interview it seems we are having to deal with issues on multiple fronts simultaneously – that’s a tricky strategy in any business but in football with results on the field the name of the game……

Two things struck me – Wyness ‘admitting’ that expectations at Villa may be affecting some players (One of the Sky pundits picked up on this as the players we have brought in are not used to playing in front if large crowds every week) and a lot of work is being done around this fact and the second that SB has held his hands up as trying to do too much too quickly.

Before the window Xia said – no major surgery in January – in hindsight that might have been a better strategy short term but long term we have improved the quality of the squad at a relatively small net outlay (around £5 – £8m) – just have to get through this season now.

With my really positive hat think we might just pinch a lucky win

Remember Darren Bent !!!!…..bet he would like to score….especially after missing that sitter in the last match….even Umbrella mans mother in law would have knocked that in.

Unless something drastic has changed, and Bruce has had a big meeting with all the players to air all the problems and see what they think is going wrong, and they have all agreed collectively on what they must do in terms of commitment and tactics on the pitch, then I can’t see anything other than a Derby win.

I’ll also bet a few quid that Scott Carson plays a blinder, and Darren Bent scores.

Oh, and if we are somehow a goal up at any point, stick every penny you have on an in game bet of derby to have won by full time (always good odds on these types of bet).

I dearly wish I wasn’t writing the above, but just can’t see where the goals are coming from, and annoyingly, Derby County have played a good style of football since Stcheeve has taken over, and i just can’t see us handling them.

I’ve always said this – I don’t really mind, win, lose or draw, as long as the team have a good go, go into tackles and 50/50s passionately and when they walk off the pitch, they are exhausted, black and bruised. It’s a long time I’ve seen a Villa team that have walked off in this state.

And for goodness sake, Jack Grealish is not our answer, I hope Bruce doesn’t play him today, he doesn’t deserve a start. Most overrated player I have ever seen pull on a Villa shirt. I just want to put a rocket up his ass, everything he does is just so slow.

I could have gone today, but opted not to. Save me about £100 and a 300 mile round trip.

(Still hope everything I have said above is wrong, and we outplay Derby and win convincingly).

H60. The players we have brought in who are not used to playing in front of large crowds – are doing their best to correct that ASAP.

I watched the highlights of the Barcodes game on the official site. Bloody hell! Comic defending – and not Roy of the Rovers either.

Farcical errors led to both goals and are what we have to cut out. 1/ hoof the ball out of your six yard box upwards and not near the body in front of you. 2/ If you are standing on the post at a corner all of your body from boot to shoulder should be touching the post, no gaps. I think I learnt that in primary school.

The plus points were good saves by our keeper. I think if Adomah starts the attack will be dangerous, Derby are better going forward than defending so chances will be created. 2-3 or 3-2.

Apparently according to the media a cabal of four players were behind Ranieri’s sacking or at least instrumental – allegedly our old mate Albrighton being one of them. Villa not keeping the toxic stuff to themselves then! 🙂

Not that I ever believe the media of course.
