Villa – Chelsea; We should win easily. I’ve been told so.

It’s a bit late this one, as I’m working away from home and couldn’t get in the front door of my digs. Long story short, I spent three quarters of an hour stood outside before I managed to get in.
There’s always something isn’t there (said with gritted teeth).

Anyway, it transpires I’m working with a Liverpool and a Man U fan. We started to discuss the game and instantly the verdict was out. “Ah you’ll beat them easily, they’re rubbish.”
“Wolves done ’em 4-2 the other day”
Of course I knew that, but it just goes to show doesn’t it? Sometimes you just don’t win the games you’d expect to. That and of course, it’s just a funny old game.

Anyway, I soon put them right and explained about how we’re talking about the Villa.

I won’t bother with squad news now, as the team news will be out shortly and I’ll put the actual teams in.

Martínez, Moreno, Lenglet, Diego Carlos, Cash, Tielemans, McGinn (c), Luiz, Kamara, Bailey, Watkins

Substitutes from: Olsen, Wright, Pau, Chambers, Diaby, Zaniolò, J.Ramsey, Iroegbunam, Kellyman

Chelsea starting lineup (4-2-3-1):
Petrović, Chilwell (c), Badiashile, Disasi, Gusto, Enzo, Caicedo, Palmer, Gallagher, Madueke, Jackson

Substitutes from: Bergström, Bettinelli, Gilchrist, Silva, Samuels-Smith, Chukwuemeka, Mudryk, Sterling, Nkunku

What to think then?

I don’t have a clue. While everybody was over the moon against Sheffield, so I was seemingly in a minority of one who had doubts and didn’t think we looked very good, as much as we thrashed them.

But if I assume we’ve now turned the corner of decidedly average performances, I have to go for a victory, don’t I?
And to be honest, that’s a position I’m very happy to be in. I’d always rather be positive than negative, but the realist is usually foremost, regardless.

I do think we’ll win, but can’t quite find myself going as far as the scousers prediction of “3-1 and get some money on it.”.
Hence I’m going for 2-1 because our defence looks such a shambles at times. Then again, their attack is pretty impotent, so if we can keep them tied up, they probably won’t even score.

2-1 it is then.

UTV!

  1. Poch looks agitated in the interview. Has he lost his dressing room? We’ll soon find out. We need to go at them as they’re vulnerable. Put them away first half, I say…

  2. Agreed BFR.
Talking of interviews, Unai suddenly seems very confident in his English. It sounds to be coming on a bundle.
Keane thinks this could be a defining week for Villa and I think he’s right.

We’ve got ample tools to do the job, so just do it Villa. No traumas please.

    1. Awful absolutely gash Chelsea are shite as well but we are decimated at the back
Can see our season unravelling big time with all the injuries ffs

  3. Bloody saw that coming. They look hungrier than us tonight. Bit like the Barcodes the other week.

  4. Open field down our right again.
I honestly hope that my Sheffied assessment was wrong.

  5. That’s twice Kamara has lost the ball in midfield – the first leading to the goal.

We look wide open without Konsa

  6. Bum Bum, I honestly think it’s not down to them wanting it more than us. It’s much deeper than that.
It’s the point I was trying to make in the post. Chelsea are rubbish, but they’re superior to us at the minute.
We’ve gone from a great team to frankly a poor one at the moment.
    I think it’s mental tiredness.

And as I type, they score again. It’s all too easy.

  7. Going to be hammered – we’re absolute crap and another useless FA Cup performance.

  8. Anyone think we’re coming back from this?
I don’t think we look anything like having enough to turn this around.

  9. Your fault Badger predicting , I could see from the start Kamara, Cash , and Luis all to blame , absolutely shit .

  10. Is there a malaise in a team that picks itself? A complacency?

Pathetic question time (to distract from this crap scoreline): Would you accept defeat tonight for a win over ManU?

The midfield have been disjointed. Where are they? I still wouldn’t discount a comeback…

Has Emery promised them pizza for a sneaky defeat tonight???

    1. Yes, I would take the 3 points over Manure. But that is looking extremely unlikely. Now Badger’s whinge after Sheffield makes sense. They were so shit it made us think we were back. Doesn’t look like it. No pressure on Chelsea players says Dixon. Really, Lee? You’re so perceptive! 🤦

  11. Our midfield is invisible. It’s a repeat of the Newcastle game. We look lethargic and they look like they have a point to prove.

    1. Exactly like Sheffield did to us Hitch.
I’m not gloating. I’m seriously concerned that our season is on the brink of a total collapse.
One of the coms has just said that not one of the Villa players has played well.
      No shit, Sherlock.

      And there’s the 3rd.

  12. We are playing shite. This could be a cricket score if we carry on this way. Maybe Konsa being out will prove very costly.

  13. None of our midfielders can find a pass. Down both flanks they are able to have a free run and cross. Emery will have to come up with a master class at half time to try and get something from this game.
