Villa – Chelsea; Now here’s a tough one.

Are there any easy ones?
Of course, there aren’t and this will probably prove as tough as most of our remaining fixtures.

On the face of it, it’s a pretty daunting fixture and I’m finding it hard to see how we can win this game.
The only advantage I can see is that we’ve played a game and Chelsea haven’t since the restart, which might mean we have an edge in fitness and more likely mental agility.

We have an horrendous record against Chelsea over the last few years, so there’s not much to hope for in that area either.
That said, it appears that Chelsea don’t keep many clean sheets, so if they’re likely to concede, there’s always hope that if we can score one, we might get something.

But it goes back to the same old problem of our defence.
Chelsea are a different proposition compared to Sheffield Utd and it’ll be interesting to see the defence holds up.
I suggested that we looked better at the back on Wednesday and if we maintain that, we might actually be able to get a point, which wouldn’t have been expected over the last few years.

But the reality is I’m expecting nothing at all and anything would be a bonus.
I like to be as optimistic as I can, but I’m also a realist too.

No predictions from me yet, but I do have a scoreline in my head. I’ll reveal that in the review.

For information, the game is on Sky, but if you have the nous, you might want to look into (cough) Vola Sports (cough).

  1. well i never lol

we scored lol in fact for all chelsea’s dominance we have had some decent chances . mcginn’s near post header should have tested their goalie, elm ghazi had a decent shot, our hause poached the goal off davis who also was linning up the goal lol.

if we could just hold on to this or increase the coreline just for my ticker. what a massive three points it would be. where is my Valium i can not handle this

Defensively we have done well up to now. I think 2nd half it will be like the Alamo.

Did we need to take Davis off?

  3. 2nd half chelsea will fade at some stage. about 65mins 70 mins. they will hit the wall. so if we can hold out a little longer, we might be able to benefit from this 2nd half or the second period

Game over! Grealish has contributed nothing today. He isn’t good enough for top 6!

JT’s tactics are finally paying off.

  8. Hahahaha how typical of us!? That’s what you get for pathetic tactics and playing for a 1-0 win every game. We are down Smith doesn’t have any other ideas other than hoof ball and sit back all game. We are done.

    Jesus 🙁

  10. You can’t play attack v defence for 90 minutes.

    1. No but you can at least push forward more often than we do. Watch any other team they seem to carve out chances a lot more than we do. Brighton beat Arsenal would we have gone for the win if we were drawing 1-1 with a minute left, no we would have put everyone in the box and defend like hell. We are a joke.

      1. That’s my point

  11. Hourihanne why why why?

We are a shite team with a manager well out of his depth. Players look scared to be in possession and want to offload it as quick as possible. This team would struggle in the championship.

  13. my god this is terrible. Don’t even look like a football team at all. Nobody moving just hoof it.

We are a less than ordinary team on the these two performances. Don’t look like there is any fight in us at all.

Smith, Terry, O’Kelly, Suso! Where do you lay the blame? Undoubtedly Smith will say that we were unlucky blah blah!
Total domination by Chelsea and 1-2 flattered us. We have to prepare ourselves for Championship football next season. Sell Grealish, Mings and McGinn to pay off our debts and bring in a manager who can take us up and keep us up. Benitez anyone?

  17. tough game tough watch…good performances from luiz hause and targett. we just are sadly not good enough this season. yeah we should go two up top. but honestly that will probably not work too, we dont control the ball to have two up front. we end up lightweight even more than we are in midfield.

i am more happier with this lose than the draw against sheffield. we are expected to lose to chelsea i know sheff are top 10 and flying but they are punching above themselves and i fancied us to beat them. so i was upset not too.

everything boils down to newcastle. i think we lose that we can kiss good bye to this league. i would expect to beat them even at their place, but we got to carry more threat with the ball,

the two quick goals turned the game today. if we could have held out just a little longer, the game was turning into our favor

Positives – I didn’t watch the second half 🙂 and I can see why Man City have a buy back clause for Luiz – at least we won’t lose money.

Negatives – pretty much everything else!

So – will Smith still be manager next season in the Championship?
