Villa – Blues; the big one again….. Vote as to who will win

[polldaddy poll=9936415]

There you go, it’s right at the top of the post, so you can vote and don’t have to read my prattle if you don’t want to.

I have to confess that I’m worried about this one.
We’ve had a great run in winning six games out of six and when you’re having such a good run, thoughts have to turn to when that run will eventually end, as it surely has to.

Unfortunately, Blues seem to have turned their very poor form around and they’ve won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six, while also scoring a lot of goals compared to previously in the season.
Couple this with the fact that I’m not so Gung-ho in my thinking these days and I see this very much as a major banana skin that we need to avoid, if we’re to continue in our challenge for second in the league.

It’s not that I think Blues are as good as us, it’s just the fact that it’s a derby, where we all know the odd simple mistake can decide the game.

So what do we know?

We’re in very good nick, with only the usual long-term sufferers being out.
Lewis Grabben has trained this week, so might get a few minutes, depending on how the game goes, but you’d have to expect that Steve Bruce will yet again make very few, if any at all, changes to the starting eleven.

On the Blues’ part (and I really couldn’t care less) full-back Jonathan Grounds is out with a knee injury.
Winger Jacques Maghoma might make it, after missing the last couple of weeks with a groin problem.

None of it really matters, as it’s all about who wants it the most when it comes to the second city derby, in my opinion.

We’re the better/bigger club, by a mile.
We have the better first X1 and squad.
We have the better everything; it’s as simple as that.
As we all know.

But it means nothing, as derbies are on a level only equalled by the FA cup, in that everything goes out the window.
Where the result can massively inflate/deflate a club’s confidence either way.

That said, the bookies have us as odds-on favourites and they’re no mugs.
And as much as I’m worried about this one, so I refuse to think that the scum can beat us on our own patch.

I’m going for a 2-1 win.
I don’t give a toss who gets the goals and I don’t care how we go about it.
As long as we out-work and out-fight the toe-rags.

The word is that Steve Bruce is hoping to be at the game, after the sad loss of his father, combined with his mother’s ill health.
He has my sincere condolences and I suspect he will indeed make it, purely because he won’t be able to resist such an interesting game. That, plus work takes your mind off things, I’ve found.

Fingers crossed for that Villa win.

Yes, I noticed that Bill. I was never his greatest fan when at Chelsea but fair play to him he hasn’t come here just to pick up a final pay day. He’s now a true Villan.

Great, great, great – no question we were the better team – quite right at last we have our Villa back and huge thanks should go to Steve Bruce.

Fair play Badger you called it right with Jedinak bought back in and it was a masterstroke by SB – the Jedi was superb.

Couldn’t be a better weekend with England beating Wales and Worcester Warriors beating Exeter away. Off to find the largest bottle of wine possible.

Jack MOTM and well deserved. Looking at the interview it actually looks like he’s physically grown and it was interesting that he commented on now being able to last 90 minutes.

If Jack keeps this up then we’ll be up!

Can only see us getting beat by Wolves between now and end of season. Derby won’t be able to keep pace, they aren’t very good, Rowett got them punching above their weight.

Great result. I was only able to watch until about the 59th minute and then had to leave. We scored seconds after so I’m claiming an assist.

Brilliant win! And another potential banana skin gone 🙂
Yes, I had to work. Again 🙁
Absolutely no let-up on that front, I’m afraid.

    Oohah’s still struggling to get on the site, but he’s asked me to pass on this comment;

How happy I am after today? It may shock a few of our posters lol.
Great tactic from Bruce for once putting on Jedinek to nullify the threat of Gallagher and Davies and fwiw thought he was motm.
Though could of made a case for all our players except Johnstone who had nothing to do lol. Feeling positive for the first time in years. SOTC!

yes another 3 points and another fine performance. their is a strong competition within the squad for starting places. this is what has been lacking for many many seasons.

seen a few brums games lately and this was by far the worst they played. could this be villa stopping them or did they freeze. grealish was again awesome, we have to go up or he will be gone. brum marked him out as dangerman and they tried to rough him up more than others have done. but it didnt have the desirable affect they hoped for.

for the first time this season we will be the hunted instead of the hunters, got to push on now and secure 2nd spot.

Grealish has been the difference since he returned from injury. By his own admission he is stronger and fitter and can last the full 90 minutes; I admire his honesty. It’s not just his attacking and creative flair – we’ve all known he has it – but his work rate, tracking back and tackling has added a new dimension to his game and to the team performance. But, as important is his understanding with Adomah which is creating havoc with opposition defences and long may it continue. UTV
