Villa – Arsenal; A bridge too far?

I’ve said previously that I thought we’d be able to beat Palace, Everton and West Ham.
I’ve also said that this is a game that I don’t think we can win. I’m sorry to say I still think that applies.

It’s typical of Villa’s luck, that Arsenal, who have been reasonably mediocre by their standards have now gone on a bit of a roll and are in very good form.
It doesn’t help that they’re still very much in the running to qualify for the Europa league, although this might have been pushed to the back of the players’ minds now that they’ve qualified for the FA cup final.
You’d expect that any of their players picked will be playing for a place at Wembley, so I’m certainly not expecting them to give us an easy time of it.

Still, I’m not exactly the world’s best at predicting games and there’s every chance I’m wrong.
It’s not like Arsenal are unbeatable by any means and they have actually lost 9 of the 36 games they’ve played this season.

And then I’m struggling for positives. Clutching at straws, if you like.
Because I just don’t think we have a hope in hell of beating Arsenal, not in a month of sundays.
Where is the goal, let alone goals going to come from?
And who is going to step up and have a blinder at the back, saving the day from what will probably be a fair old onslaught?
There isn’t anyone, is there?

Even Jack Grealish, our one man team, doesn’t seem to be able to produce anything of note lately.
Dean Smith rightly pointed out that he’s due a goal though and it would be great if he could get one to pinch the points in what will possibly be his last game at Villa Park as a Villa player.

We’ll know the Watford score before we kick off, but I think it really won’t matter too much.
We’ve probably done pretty well to drag it out this far, but I think today we’ll see our number is up.

Of all the top six – Arsenal at VP is the one we might be able to nick.

Not that I’m predicting a Villa win of course 🙂

Having said that we’re winless against them in 17 home league games and last won in 1998 3-2. I remember that game – we were 2 down at half time, scoring 3 times in the second half. Dublin netted twice and Joachim got the other.

    We’re due a win then ……….?

Sorry to say we’ve had it! 0-2 for me as we are so toothless. Oh well, Villa will always be my team, regardless of what league we’re in. God I’m getting old, who remembers the 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup in 1974?

I can’t see us winning even if Watford lose. We will probably need to score at least two goals to win the game because of our defensive frailties. I think it will be 0-2 or even 0-3! I actually have a gut feeling that Watford might get a result with Citeh guaranteed champions league football now.

Nah – Watford have committed hari-kari by sacking Pearson. Hope they get relegated – even if it’s Bournemouth.

when we were debating what went wrong this season. another clue is look at our bench. where is the back up coming from? nobody on that bench could be called upon if we need a goal. that is another reason for sure. hard for the manager to change things up when he has nobody to change too

too nervous to type, man city to the rescue lol we have to seize the moment. forget the season now. ups and downs destiny is back in our hands, win the remaining games and we are premiership again.

arsenal will not enjoy a game like tonight, they have nothing to play for only minor upgrade position in the league and a micky mouse euro place next season, where you might play 50 games to reach finals of second rate comp.

if we have anything about us we will fly for arsenals throats and test their resolve. we played well at their place only getting robbed by the officials, we have to show more maturity when we can see the finish line. can not stop doing the good stuff when we hit the front,

heart says we can do this 1 nil head says 2 nil gunners

i do see mcginn having a good game and grealish = maybe we can win if these two hit form and luiz has another excelllent game.

    Unbelievable.
Elmo does a bit of a sprint and his Hammy has gone.
What the fuck is wrong with our conditioning?
    It seems it’s utter crap!

This is far, far too pedestrian.
Like we’re playing some sort of canny game.

    A hint Dean;
    It won’t work, trust me.
