Villa 3-1 Hull; Survival

Aston Villa 3-1 Hull All Goals & Highlights 03… by All_Goals

Well, I can’t say it was a classic game, as it was filled with the usual errors and poor passing.
Hull never really looked up for it in the first half, certainly not as much as I thought they would, anyway, but it doesn’t really matter.
At the end of the day we got the all-important 3 points that ensured our survival in the Premier league for another season. Which is about all it will be if things don’t change.
We should make no mistake about this. While Hull were pretty poor, we weren’t much better, especially in the middle of the first half, where we were desperately poor.

Not that it’s a day where I really want to concentrate on the bad side of things.
We also played some decent stuff at times and that coupled with the fact that we had a few chances and actually scored three goals at home, made things really pleasing overall; at least enough to make me think I hadn’t totally wasted my money anyway.

I won’t talk about Hull’s goal, save to say I was absolutely fuming.
But it wasn’t enough to dampen the atmosphere, especially when we got the third, which combined with most other results going our way, meant it was party time.

The devil in me says it would have been a perfect day if you know who had been relegated, but the Brummie/midlander in me says I’m somewhat glad they weren’t.

So we go again next season then.
Hopefully with the club having been cleared out from top to bottom.

Yesterday was down to Cowans and Given imo, we were set up a lot better then in other games. The fans should imo be asking for Cowans to be promoted up to a first team coach

Lambert should be sacked it was clear yesterday he is leaving, he was looking around the ground a lot as i f giving it one last look. He also walked off at the end i just felt it was the last time he would manage us at VP.

I personally feel he would do well at a Forest, Sheffield Wednesday or a Leeds he would bring them back to the Prem and probably stabilize and under achieving Championship team as a Premiership regular. He is not a manager for a team like Villa or any other established premier league side

Lets all hope the club is sold or a major investor has come in.Really would love a few nice players back at the Villa.Cant have another season like this one.We played poorly that many times that any win felt like a cup final win which just isn’t cricket is it.The whole nonsense of this season has got many supporters including me not wanting to part with their hard earned and go and support our beloved AVFC that’s really bad too.O Neill may have overspent but Lerner gave him the green light.I hope we can get back up there again and challenge as we are been cruelly dismantled by a disinterested owner and nearly relegated time for change can’t come to soon…….Lerner out

Re;Blues relegation……….when they were 2 down I held my tongue as not to influence what was to happen at V.P. later (crazy)…..and listening to the last 10 mins it really was exciting…….
I put this on Facebook 13 hours ago…..

    ” OLD AGE………
After 50 years of “hate”…I couldn’t find any more today against Birmingham City…..they have been s*** on for the last few years and it echoes the goings on at the Villa……they were relegated a couple of years ago on goal difference and we all laughed but today they stayed up on goal difference…….West Broms turn now…we all need to be in the top flight to get those special derbies again.
Don’t think many will agree though.I know a few who will be in a right old state as the Blues have stayed up -even though the Villa have done the same…get over it.”

A few more decisions like at the Stamford Bridge game (Terry – hand ball) and WE would be a Fulham/Cardiff/Norwich…..it really is THAT close….HELP.

I love the banter with some of the blue noses i know or have met, nearly hada fight with one at a BBQ (if i am honest we were both pissed and being dicks) once. But i would love it if the derbies for all midlands clubs were happening in the Permier league. Villa, Blues, Baggies, wolves, forest , Derby etc. i hate the dominance of the north and the south in the top flight more of our clubs from the midlands should be up there fighting it out. More fans from this area should be supporting local teams in this area as well. Instead of supporting teams like Liverpool and Man Utd, Dads should be taking there kids to watch the local teams imo rather than watching it at home on sky shouting at the telly

It’s always been like that. Even in the 70s when I was at school other kids supported utd and Liverpool. Ridiculous. I’d rather see a kid walking around with a blues top than a utd top at least they support their local team

Are the players really as bad as they seem. We have played well in a few games this season and given the players that are injured should be back for next season we have the core of a decent mid table squad. With 3 – 4 big players bought in the summer and a change in coaching staff we should be comfortably mid table next season. But is that really enough. A week ago I would have said definitely. But now we are safe and I’m thinking to next season I don’t think it is. We need to be bold and make a statement in the market that we intend to ruffle the feathers of the big boys . We have managed it this season on a few occasions. Top 6 has to be the aim and if we fail to achieve it and end up mid table having given it a go I will accept that. But to start the season with mid table as the target I find that boring. At least a relegation battle gets the blood boiling and nerves jangling. May as well finish 15th as 10th. Top six is a good place to start the revolution but only with a manager that will see it as a starting point and not the height of our possible achievements. Now do you feel Lambert can achieve this cause I don’t.

Tekkers…I think you are spot on with your assessment. There are IMO 5 decent players in the squad and a further 3 that would be useful on the bench. If we can keep Guzan, Okore, Vlaar, Kozak and Benteke and add, as you say possibly 4 quality signings then we can have a much better season (hopefully). With the right manager at the helm 30 mil investment (which is not alot to ask for) would, IMO definitely move us in the right direction.
One thing is for sure, we have to start showing ‘real ambition’…..4 seasons of mediocrity is more than enough…..I dont think my heart (or liver) could stand another relegation battle.
Stupid question, I know, but was there any sign of Randolph at VP yesterday?

Are you forgetting Delph, who without doubt has been our best player, no ifs or buts! Kozak, worth keeping? Are you having a tin bath? Fat, slow, no technique, no acceleration, can’t turn, no feet, a waste of a player! We need searing pace up front but unlike Gabby but someone with end product.

Disagree their season like ours is defined on their past 37 matches. One match does not relegate you like one match dosnt make you champions. Like us Norwich are where they are because they’ve been shit all season long.

I agree that Lambert looked to have the manner of a man who knows he’s on his way out the door. A takeover would be really exciting and any kind of change now would be very welcome. The current situation has gone on too long. There will be serious protests next season if the fans think they will have to endure another relegation scrap. Don’t think our hearts can take much more!!!

However, if Lambert stays, I do like the sound of the three players that were mentioned recently. Think Chicarito is waster at United. Holtby could give us a little creative spark. And Lescott would give us a bit more solidity. However, still not convinced that Lambert’s training has bought the players forward or that his tactics bring the best out of them.

Philip Anschutz is a name going around as another possible owner. Worth 10.1 billion USD’s. Co-founded the MLS, and multiple MLS clubs. Sports Business Journal ranked Anschutz in 2006 as the #1 most influential person in soccer in the U.S. I dunno if it’s true, but it’s another rumour going around.

The Liverpool guy has done well, struggling to find others. I think anchutz (wrong spelling) would be a good owner because he is already involved in football. We need an owner who is not going interfere too much but also surrounds the club with footballing knowhow.

Yes Liverpool owner is ok but I don’t think they will give the money to take them to next level. I know they have £60m but nowhere near enough esp if Suarez goes and utd will be bk next year. Also they are in Europe do need a bigger squad
