Villa 2 – 2 Sheff Utd: Another two points dropped, after a great start.

While this was a great game for a neutral to watch, it was equally as bad for a Villa fan, because we were just so poor in defence.

Quite simply, after going two goals up within 10 minutes, the vast majority of home sides win and so we should have too.
Utd hardly touched the ball in that 10 minutes, after all.

But it’s the Villa we’re talking about, isn’t it?, where any team that has just had an awful run will turn it around against us. God, I’m sick of saying that, but it’s always true, it seems.

And I’m not at all convinced that you can lay much of the blame at Steve Bruce’s feet either, for this game anyway.
It was fairly obvious to me that he played to win and the players weren’t up to it.
I actually enjoyed most of the game and wonder what Steve Agnew brought to us?
If it was the attacking intent, that’s great. It’s what we’ve all been asking for, after all.

Hmm, thinking about it, it’s not the loss of yet another two points that bothers me the most.
It’s the slowly dawning fact that we just are not good enough. There are too many players that aren’t cutting it at the moment.
In fairness, I do have quite a bit of sympathy as regards our injuries, but if we can’t win our home games, we’re going to struggle to achieve top six.

Then again, I predicted a loss, with a draw at best, so it could definitely have been worse, I suppose.

Adomah was our MOTM, I thought.
He showed the most attacking intent and put some decent balls in the box.

Oh well, at least we’re still top six for now, even though we’re in the middle of a poor run.

don’t want to bore you guys with a long post. but i watched villa against city 2008 first game of season. i had it in my head things went bad at villa during mon reign. but football wasn’t as bad as i recalled. we played good football and defended strongly.

i also watched the man utd coca cola final and leeds final. Dalian Atkinson first goal was quite brilliant. the one touch lay offs in the build up was simply superb, finish was classic atkinson RIP

the leeds game was display of brilliant football, passing moving and villa dominated a strong leeds team. brian little and ron atkinson i loved our style then and would love to see this style return.

so my question is when did villa slip into the coma of today???i thought it was under mon. when he deserted us days before the season. that left a bitter after taste. but as i opened with the game against city 2008 opener. was better quality than i cared to remember

bruce claims hogan its his time.

bruce has to play to the guys strength. he loves balls behind a defence. or crosses that are across the face of the goals. i think you really need to play two up for him. or you need wingers reaching the byline. if hogan is up front alone then its not his game.

i know fook all about football, so we will see how they deploy him. in hogans time at villa he hasn’t had much of a chance. that is we don’t create chances for him. watch the goal against wigan. were he turned on a 6pence and whacked a shot past the keeper from edge of box. that’s hogan like many good strikers, they are alive in the box. not back to goal surrounded by a defence 40 yards from goal.
