Villa 2 – 2 Preston; We threw that away

I’m stunned.

The first half sounded superb and Tony Morley suggested that the first half was the best we’d played for around two years. Indeed, it sounded like even Westwood, Gabby and Hutton were playing really well and Johnstone hardly touched the ball.
At one stage, it wouldn’t have been a surprise if we were 4-0 up; we were that impressive.
So what happened?

We went in two up at half time and things should have been very comfortable.
Nothing changed when the teams came back on and we retained the same 4-1-4-1 that seemed the best balanced we’ve been in a long time.

Yet we still managed to let them back into it and this surely has to be a mental thing?

Steve Bruce, who I don’t see got it wrong today, even though I feared for us from the off when I saw the line-up, must quite simply be pulling his hair out.

I predicted a 0-0 today and I’d have taken that.
But to have played so well in the first half and still end up drawing?
That’s a massive 2 points dropped, whichever way you look at it.

There are plus points in that we showed that we can do it.
But we have to show more resilience if we’re going to get to the play-offs.
Lansbury looked ok and that’s another plus.
Along with us retaining our home record.
Oh, we got two goals too.

But I’m still massively disappointed.

  1. Kodjia….Hogan couldnt play tonight anyway as we needed to have signed him by 12 yesterday to be eligible….debut should be against Robin Hood and his merry men on Sat.

  2. Langfordvilla, I take my hat off to you, top class information. Keep it coming . Sky sports saying Ross McCormack transfer heating up.

    1. Dave67…. Cheers mate, but I’m only relaying information!

BTW….Wyness just tweeted ‘phone still hot, I need a breather’ 🙂

  3. Never heard of the Lad but fair play to him he’s come through from non league and his record at Rochadale and Brentford is is pretty impressive.
    Our Jamie Vardy perhaps?

Reckon Hogan is a bit of a gamble but if you don’t try your luck?

      1. We’ve all been moaning and bitching (well I have) that the scouting network ain’t been doing their thing and finding these here diamonds in the rough so it’s good to see.
Come on Hitchy any fool can sign your Richarsons and Wes Browns with a so called ‘proven’ track record but then you end up becoming a Villa Or a Sunderland, it’s a road to ruin (imo).

I agree BWS – my post was meant to be positive but honest. He’s only 24 so lots of promise and signing the proven McCormack hasn’t turned out well. I’m excited about our business in this window – the guy I’m really looking forward to seeing play is Bjarnason. That might just turn out to be an inspired signing.

    2. Lets just hope he gets through his medical….no doubt he’s talented but has had ACL injuries x 2

      1. LV you’ve worried me now, just watching his goals on youtube and I thought his running action and movement seemed a bit odd.

That’s all we need yet another injury prone player!

  4. **** update****
My guy….Sorry for the delay with announcements, but there is a queue

Havent got a clue what that means!

    1. He must mean Gabby and RM have to have treatment first?

    2. Hitchens 60 avatar
      Hitchens 60

What a great visual image – a line of players desperate to join Villa with Gabby and RM complaining because they can’t get a look in 🙂

    3. A queue?? For medicals or dealing with players coming in?? Mate

      1. Just said queue for ‘announcements’…..no reason why!

  5. Westwood gone to Burnley too wear the no 18 shirt.

    1. Burnley have signed Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood for an undisclosed fee.

Westwood, 26, has agreed a three-and-a-half-year contract at Turf Moor – with the option of a further year.

His move to Turf Moor ends a four-and-a-half year stay at Villa Park for the former Crewe captain.

Westwood said: “I’m delighted to be here. It’s happened fast but I’ve been made to feel very welcome and I can’t wait to get going.

“It feels like a proper football club and homely and that’s what I like. I like to be appreciated and I think I will definitely get that here

      1. Nice little dig at the Villa and fans…..

Best of luck to Ashley Westward. Not at the standard required of Villa, but conducted himself well whilst a Villa player. Hard to believe we got £5m for him. Good bit of business that. Best window for us in a long time (on paper). Means feck all if we don’t win tonight. If we can’t win tonight it will put an end to any glimmering hopes we have of making a late surge for the playoff places. For what it’s worth I feel confident that with the squad we have now and with a summer window still to come, we should walk this league next season if we fail to go up this year. We may actually be “PREPARED” for once.
