Villa 2 – 2 Preston; We threw that away

I’m stunned.

The first half sounded superb and Tony Morley suggested that the first half was the best we’d played for around two years. Indeed, it sounded like even Westwood, Gabby and Hutton were playing really well and Johnstone hardly touched the ball.
At one stage, it wouldn’t have been a surprise if we were 4-0 up; we were that impressive.
So what happened?

We went in two up at half time and things should have been very comfortable.
Nothing changed when the teams came back on and we retained the same 4-1-4-1 that seemed the best balanced we’ve been in a long time.

Yet we still managed to let them back into it and this surely has to be a mental thing?

Steve Bruce, who I don’t see got it wrong today, even though I feared for us from the off when I saw the line-up, must quite simply be pulling his hair out.

I predicted a 0-0 today and I’d have taken that.
But to have played so well in the first half and still end up drawing?
That’s a massive 2 points dropped, whichever way you look at it.

There are plus points in that we showed that we can do it.
But we have to show more resilience if we’re going to get to the play-offs.
Lansbury looked ok and that’s another plus.
Along with us retaining our home record.
Oh, we got two goals too.

But I’m still massively disappointed.

  1. Mail saying Taylor at BMH undergoing medical –

Good move by SB as Ayew contributed little to the team and the £5 million he’ll get on top will help fund the mystery man.

Anyway it looks like being a phenomenal window for us and I’d go as far as to say better than most summer windows we’ve had. All the fans have been saying we needed players in certain positions and SB has gone and bought exactly what we needed.

Can’t wait for the game tomorrow.

  2. Mail seems to think that the mystery man might be the Korean Lee from Palace. Some saying Hogan is more than likely too.

Really thought that after Hourihane that might be it and we’d have a quiet day today. However obviously SB has the bit between his teeth and financially the dealing so far has been very shrewd so the money’s there for other players.

Going to be an interesting day!

  3. I’m looking forward to tonights game not just because of the new additions but how this hogan link will pan out, will he play or won’t he. I’ve never heard of this possible scenario before maybe some of you have, I think as there’s a full fixture list tonight there should be extentions for deals to go through.

    1. I can’t ever remember their being a full fixture list on deadline day – seems slightly wrong. Games don’t finish until 10ish and the window closes at 11pm. Hope the FL have extra staff on and more than one fax machine 🙂

  4. Makes you wonder, managers are tied up with games so who does the deals? Has to be finance department under instructions from manager or owner.

    1. Think we will find it difficult Ashe seems to be set on Prem – alsomay want to stay in London. Palace if really interested must be favourites

      1. He’s also stated he’d be prepared to join another championship club as long as it wasn’t for long in that league, Palace are in a relegation battle that might be the stumbling block imo

  5. Does that mean one more to get Langford, have we ever had a window like this?
I wonder how he doing to pay for all those player’s and make a profit without putting prices up.

    1. Giddy…yes, I mentioned that yesterday. Rhodes could be a last minute deal. My man quiet in both Rhodes and Hogan! We will deffo get one if them, maybe both?

    1. It appears there could be quite a lot of last minute interest in RM – get several taxis ready!

  6. Sky sources saying Villa / Brentford have agreed fee and Villa prepared to offer Hogan prem level package. Although not going to feature in the game it does add a certain spice to tonight’s fixture!

  7. According to the Mail – Villa will go back for Rhodes if the Hogan deal falls through – looks like it could be interesting right up to 11pm…..and beyond?

        1. Giddy…if his medical is at 4pm then I cant see him getting to Griffin Park in time to watch the game…..unless there is a chopper laid on for him.

  8. 15 million for Hogan when we could of had Rhodes, who is proven over a much longer period at this level for 10 million.

Terrible piece of business, another dud potentially signed and more money squandered.

Hope he fails a medical or it falls through another way.

    1. It’s one of those he could be the next benteke or the next Mcormack who knows

  9. Windows going crazy! If we get rid of westwood for 5mil then thats amazing! Hogan, Rhodes and Kodjia up front sounds pretty good. Id take Hogan over Rhodes though he seems determined and ambitious think he will keep getting better. Just need these players to gel. Big indicator tonight with all the new mids and possibly bree playing.

      1. Still a lot. IV a feeling it will be £10m initially rising to 15m with add ons. Never heard of the bloke till an hour ago anyone know if he’s any good. Sounds like we are paying well over the odds for him

        1. Sky have just said fee agreed at £9m rising to £12m – terms agreed with player and Langford says medical booked for 4pm (Sky confirmed medical not yet done)

  10. Westwood at Burnley – completed medical – £5m not a bad fee at least we turned a profit I wish him luck

    1. Giddy – Mail saying Rhodes deal still possible maybe last minute loan deal. Might still depend on whether they can shift RM
