Ah, man.
The Villa never fail to let us down do they?
Just as I was beginning to think we were on a serious roll, so we lose at home, just when we could have closed on Cardiff.
That’s not the worst of it though, as John Terry has confirmed himself that he’s broken his 5th Metatarsal, meaning he’s going to be out for probably a minimum six weeks and more likely nearer to twelve.
Which means the worst part of the season.
I can’t say I like Terry as a person, but I’d just come round to admitting that he’s been outstanding for us up to now and he is undoubtedly going to be a massive loss.
Just when we were discussing the possibility of him being injured too, the other night.
You couldn’t make it up.
I didn’t see the game, but heard parts of the commentary and it didn’t sound good.
You can’t legislate for the first goal, which I’ve subsequently seen and it was an absolute stormer.
Even if you don’t fancy watching it, you should.
The second goal, I haven’t seen, but it was just after Terry going off and I’m hearing that Samba was at fault.
I don’t rate Samba at all, but it does seem harsh to blame him, when he’s only just come on.
That said, his job is to stop goals and he didn’t do it.
He scored a consolation goal, but for me, that’s not we got him for and that part isn’t good enough.
It’s interesting though, that Samba has a better goal-scoring record than Hogan.
Who was apparently totally anonymous today. It’s looking more and more like he isn’t going to fit in for us and might have to be sold in the winter window, at probably a massive loss, to fund some players coming in.
It would seem Samba is the automatic replacement for Terry and that has to be a major concern, given that he’s even slower. I know it was probably done for financial reasons, but how bad does Baker’s sale look now?
I suppose Jedinak can do a job there too, but then we don’t have him where he plays best.
Maybe we ought to look at bringing one of the younger defenders in, but I can’t see Bruce doing it.
I ought to be discussing how we created absolutely nothing today and Wednesday made it seem so easy.
But it doesn’t really matter does it?
Losing a game happens.
But losing such an influential player while having no decent back-up, is a disaster.
Sheff Weds only had 2 shots on target – we were a bit unlucky
not sure you really believe that. we were a bit unlucky… unless you mean because they settled early for 2 nil instead of pressing on and really humiliating us. there was plenty countering attacks they turned down to pi ss around and waste time. saying that they did miss a open goal for 3 nil with their sub putting wide from on the 5 yard line.
i would have griped more about the referee being a arsehole who gave us nothing all game and disallowed a good goal from davis. stopped villa building up any pressure. allowing wednesday to mess around and every 50/50 decision i’ll give to wednesday but i decided to admit we lost and in the words of lambert move on to the next game.
at least scum fans make us look good staying behind to sing scum players not worthy to wear the shit shirts
I think if Davis’s goal is not disallowed ( was it for a hand?) then you have ten minutes plus stoppage to equalise. Just two shots from Wednesday they came and packed midfield hoping for a point. Going a goal up meant they didn’t have to change their game plan of sitting back. That 30 yarder doesn’t go in and it’s a different game. 9/10 times a shot like that goes over or wide. I think Bruce got his line up wrong and his subs badly wrong. Kodjia or Onomah instead of Hogan and things would have been different. Hogan playing means we played with 10 men from the start. And Jedinak our best central midfielder didn’t play either. Bruce lost that game not the players. I felt sorry for them and thought they were unlucky. Still think Bruce will get us up though.
With no Onomah or Kodjia Bruce should’ve packed midfield and Hourihane could’ve played behind Davis like he did against Norwich. Bruce to scared of criticism about playing only one forward at home. Bottled it and played Hogan partly because he wasted 12mil on that nail.
the davis goal looked very harsh but thats football. wednesday came with a plan and they executed to the letter. as the game was playing i had the same idea if we got one i could see us even winning, but that goal never came till deep injury time.
hindsight is a wonderful thing. i agree i believe the formation was wrong for this game. but before the game i thought hogan and davis might hit it off as a pair. but wednesday wouldnt allow them to see the ball. they cut off any supply.
again thats football one team will stop the other playing and they will impose their game to them. second half we started from the first whistle we pressed them high. but with the ball, it was all to rushed, we never really created any clear chances. grealish looked good he did something in wot little time he had that the team failed to do in the game. head up and looked forward didnt panic he looked to pass it forward.
against a team who is pressing you, like they did first half particular. you have to either beat your man,or go past the press like go longer in passes. villa played into the press and lost ball over and over again. the fans moaning at the long balls played dont realize that the long ball was forced on us. now the long ball were badly executed because they were panic balls. they were fired at davis and he had nobody around him but wednesday players. we were hammered first half and had no answer to their press
As I missed 2nd half I sorted out the highlights….

brilliant commentary
😮 🙂
Forgot Chester missed a sitter
Tshibola is already back at Villa, because he’s been absolute shit at MK Dons. Another waste of space from Di Matteo.
Good on Bruce for realizing he should get checked for early Dementia. Being a center half, he was constantly heading balls. Personally think all players should get checked for early Dementia.
Well, yes, but that opens up a massive can of worms in itself.
I suspect dementia has been known about for a fair while and it’s why the footballs were changed for the lighter, swervy version.
Very true. Bruce did say they checked other possible diseases/disorders but never for Dementia. While it could open a massive can of worms, it’s a great idea, especially for the older former players like Bruce, to get checked out.
I wonder why they never checked for dementia?
It would have been higher up the list than anything for me, with my 20-20 hindsight 🙂
RSI and that sort of thing, ok.
But I can’t see what diseases you get from kicking a ball?????
Think he mentioned heart disease. Possibly others, I dunno.
Going back to Tshibola, yep he’s looking a disastrous signing.
£5 mill for a bag of crap.
Being accused of a terrible attitude is about as bad as it gets.
That said, Bruce is the sort who can straighten him out, imo.
If that was true, we likely wouldn’t have loaned him out. I know Bruce’s best ability as a manager is his man management skills, but I think he’s a waste that needs to be sold off for as much as we can get for him in January. To anywhere.
An odd one, Steve Round is linked away to take over at Arsenal as technical director, similar to what he’s doing for us. Dealing with transfers and such.
If you believe the Mirror, we supposedly want Diame (and he wants us lol), as his time at Newcastle has been all as a bit-part player.
Hull Daily Mail claim we want Musa on loan, who rejected Hull in the summer but may join a Championship side in january.
Would fix two of the four positions we need.
Very loose links and I can’t see them happening.
We don’t have the spending manouvrebility, apparently.
God, the transfer speculation comes earlier every year, it seems.
Both would likely be loan deals, which we have the ability to do. Even if we wanted to sign Diame, he’d probably cost as much as Whelan has, so I can see it happening if Bruce wants it.
Also scouting some Scottish League one attacker who’s 18.
Davis has signed a new 3 year deal with the club. Absolutely great news as he was out of contract in the summer.
