Villa 1-2 Sheff Weds; An absolute disaster all round

Ah, man.
The Villa never fail to let us down do they?
Just as I was beginning to think we were on a serious roll, so we lose at home, just when we could have closed on Cardiff.

That’s not the worst of it though, as John Terry has confirmed himself that he’s broken his 5th Metatarsal, meaning he’s going to be out for probably a minimum six weeks and more likely nearer to twelve.
Which means the worst part of the season.
I can’t say I like Terry as a person, but I’d just come round to admitting that he’s been outstanding for us up to now and he is undoubtedly going to be a massive loss.
Just when we were discussing the possibility of him being injured too, the other night.
You couldn’t make it up.

I didn’t see the game, but heard parts of the commentary and it didn’t sound good.
You can’t legislate for the first goal, which I’ve subsequently seen and it was an absolute stormer.
Even if you don’t fancy watching it, you should.

The second goal, I haven’t seen, but it was just after Terry going off and I’m hearing that Samba was at fault.
I don’t rate Samba at all, but it does seem harsh to blame him, when he’s only just come on.
That said, his job is to stop goals and he didn’t do it.

He scored a consolation goal, but for me, that’s not we got him for and that part isn’t good enough.
It’s interesting though, that Samba has a better goal-scoring record than Hogan.
Who was apparently totally anonymous today. It’s looking more and more like he isn’t going to fit in for us and might have to be sold in the winter window, at probably a massive loss, to fund some players coming in.

It would seem Samba is the automatic replacement for Terry and that has to be a major concern, given that he’s even slower. I know it was probably done for financial reasons, but how bad does Baker’s sale look now?
I suppose Jedinak can do a job there too, but then we don’t have him where he plays best.

Maybe we ought to look at bringing one of the younger defenders in, but I can’t see Bruce doing it.

I ought to be discussing how we created absolutely nothing today and Wednesday made it seem so easy.
But it doesn’t really matter does it?

Losing a game happens.
But losing such an influential player while having no decent back-up, is a disaster.

wednesday basically did a number on us, they pressed us high and right from the kick off.got right into the villa faces and that won the game. everything else was secondary. this press killed of support for hogan and davis. also wednesday knew villa used davis to play off and they surrounded him making him mess up the layoffs but we should have expected this start always expect the worst so you are ready for this we never and playing catchup we couldnt manage it.

samba wasnt at fault in my eye for second was a few close and quick one twos, he isnt the type of defender who can move his feet quickly, hes a strapping giant of a man nothing beats him in the air but quick feet he isnt.. plus it was good play from wednesday.

The ball went straight through Samba, how on earth was it not his fault, its basic defending.
He was getting done by Gabby 6 years ago and we all know how useless and shit he is. Being a giant isn’t good enough to play for AVFC, otherwise lets just sign a load of 6foot 7 basketball players and hoof the ball up to them

i never heard of a nimble giant he wasnt alone allowing wednesday players to pass one twos their was at least 3 quick passes from short distances. very hard to react at such a short distance. had he beaten in the air then questions would have been asked.

guess its easy to be highly critically sitting at home or in the stadium, guess if we could have done better, we would have been playing the game. take the header chester missed i would say that was a more embarrassing mistake.

bannan was behind all wednesday creativity pulling the strings nimble as you like. turning one way and switching another. passing very accurate. he has been well coached and it was by us. but he was tossed him aside and we lacked the creativity he gave to everything wednesday throw at villa. so we have nobody else to blame but ourselves. bannan or our midfielders which was more affective

i wished we had 10 more sambas lmao just to complete us

Letting Baker go was probably a mistake, replacing him with Samba definitely was. Always a chance one of the two cbs would get injured.

Onlt positives were seeing ohare and grealish bring in some creativity. We need one of them on the field.

    Disgusting……………

never done it before but couldnt watch any more……turned off at half time and went for a walk…….

    Shoot me…..

I remember saying early in season we were playing too many long ball games and got shot down………its still happening.A better excuse for having Davis on the pitch but not a system for long term success.
Watched a few of the highlights of todays matches and most of teh teams actually play football..we dont seem to.

long ball was forced on villa by wednesday pressing. the way you beat a press is to run with ball beating the press or you pass the ball past the wednesday pressing hence long ball. but wednesday were excellent they also worked out the long pass/ball wotever was aimed at davis and they crowded him. they did a number on villa and we couldnt handle them at all first half. second half we made changes and we did try to press them and engage them further upfield but we never really created much in good chances. wednesday were also clever 2nd half never committing to attack always keeping a defensive shape wasting time all second half but good luck to um they were the better side

Woeful again… the game was over after 18 seconds as Bruce is incapable of taking the risks necessary to come from behind and win a game. That early goal from Wednesday gave us the chance to show we have the mental strength, tactics and ability to rally and fight back. Instead we put together another pathetic 90 minutes with barely anything of note happening from an attacking perspective.

Whilst we are short at CB without Terry, Jedinak should be played now IMO alongside chester or we should switch to a back 3 with De Laet and or Taylor coming in. But we all know Bruce is going to play that useless oaf Samba, who lets be honest is a comedy act. Watching us hitting long balls up to a 34 year old free transfer is embarrassing and its the club and Steve Bruce that are the real joke yet again.

Agree that losing Terry is a disaster given that we’ve sold our only decent replacement in Baker. Still think we are lacking in midfield and don’t have enough creativity through the middle. Having said that, was discussing the Championship with my dad the other day and we both felt that there were many teams in the league that we couldn’t beat on our day. We both agreed that, based on what we’ve seen, Wolves are probably going to win the league and we would struggle to get a result against them. I also mentioned Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday as teams I thought we would struggle to get a result against, based on the way they play. So I wasn’t surprised to see us lose to Wednesday. We’re still on a decent run despite the loss.

anybody know the reason for snodgrass having a tantrum ????? was it cause of injury or being subbed. cant find anything about this, but was embarrassing watching a adult acting like that. he has been discarded by hammers and given a chance to show this was a mistake. so how does he show his gratitude to the manager to fans and club. he shows no discipline wots so. he was being abused by their fans being ex leeds or sumat but hurt them with your performance. he was one or many villa players who were abysmal without the ball and with

i just found out reason. he had injections for the injury before game. but i think he shouldnt have played end off. because before he chested the ball he was dire. got to trust the villa kids to step up. playing somebody not match fit is a handicap we can ill afford.

No way should he have played.
I merely “bruised” a rib a few months back and it was pure agony, even with a slight cough.
How on earth you can expect someone to play footy with a broken rib, even with painkillers, is beyond me.

I’m going to guess that Snodgrass got the right hump because he was dragged out to play when he shouldn’t have been and then got hooked.
I’d have got the bloody hump too and would have been asking “well, wtf did you expect?”.

Terrible decision to expect anything at all out of him, imo.

Very disappointing day yesterday, but still only our 2nd loss in 12 games. We have some very winnable games after the break, QPR and Sunderland to name 2.. Terry is a big loss, massive. One thing I will say, he should be out around 8 weeks, this international break being 2 of those.. so it could have been much worse, imagine if this happened in February? It will be interesting to see who takes his spot over the xmas period..

I’m really disappointed with Hogan, I really want it to work for him but it just isn’t, is it? As for Snodgrass, I didn’t mind his reaction to being subbed off yesterday. In fact I would go as far as saying I appreciated it. Unhappy with being the fall guy, wants to win and succeed, he wanted to turn it around yesterday. Need more characters like that, I think.

We have some very important games coming up after the break, but they all seem to be important nowadays don’t they? I think we missed Kodjia yesterday, it’s been noted before he can be greedy, but look how lackluster our attack was without him. Hopefully he will be back fit after the break.

Disastrous first twenty minutes- freak goal and then freak injury to Terry.Bruce should’ve had Jedinak on in a 451 before the game. Played Hogan instead, who was once more non existent. When Terry was injured Jedinak should have come on as he is a leader and we could have got in one down at the break.

Bruce picked the wrong team, and made the wrong subs and his tactics at the end were desperate. Bad day at the office for Villa compounded by a bad day for Bruce. But it was a great strike and an injury to our best player that did for us and I’m not sure you can do much about that.

Jedinak needs to play as CB as he is our real captain now JT is out. Chester is a good player but not a captain. He looked lost when JT went off.

Snodgrass, Onomah and Kodjia will be fully fit by QPR so we will be back. Just disappointing as lots of results went for us yesterday. As long as we can stay in playoffs until JT returns we will still go up top 2 IMO.

not sure you really believe that. we were a bit unlucky… unless you mean because they settled early for 2 nil instead of pressing on and really humiliating us. there was plenty countering attacks they turned down to pi ss around and waste time. saying that they did miss a open goal for 3 nil with their sub putting wide from on the 5 yard line.

i would have griped more about the referee being a arsehole who gave us nothing all game and disallowed a good goal from davis. stopped villa building up any pressure. allowing wednesday to mess around and every 50/50 decision i’ll give to wednesday but i decided to admit we lost and in the words of lambert move on to the next game.

at least scum fans make us look good staying behind to sing scum players not worthy to wear the shit shirts

I think if Davis’s goal is not disallowed ( was it for a hand?) then you have ten minutes plus stoppage to equalise. Just two shots from Wednesday they came and packed midfield hoping for a point. Going a goal up meant they didn’t have to change their game plan of sitting back. That 30 yarder doesn’t go in and it’s a different game. 9/10 times a shot like that goes over or wide. I think Bruce got his line up wrong and his subs badly wrong. Kodjia or Onomah instead of Hogan and things would have been different. Hogan playing means we played with 10 men from the start. And Jedinak our best central midfielder didn’t play either. Bruce lost that game not the players. I felt sorry for them and thought they were unlucky. Still think Bruce will get us up though.

With no Onomah or Kodjia Bruce should’ve packed midfield and Hourihane could’ve played behind Davis like he did against Norwich. Bruce to scared of criticism about playing only one forward at home. Bottled it and played Hogan partly because he wasted 12mil on that nail.

the davis goal looked very harsh but thats football. wednesday came with a plan and they executed to the letter. as the game was playing i had the same idea if we got one i could see us even winning, but that goal never came till deep injury time.

hindsight is a wonderful thing. i agree i believe the formation was wrong for this game. but before the game i thought hogan and davis might hit it off as a pair. but wednesday wouldnt allow them to see the ball. they cut off any supply.

again thats football one team will stop the other playing and they will impose their game to them. second half we started from the first whistle we pressed them high. but with the ball, it was all to rushed, we never really created any clear chances. grealish looked good he did something in wot little time he had that the team failed to do in the game. head up and looked forward didnt panic he looked to pass it forward.

against a team who is pressing you, like they did first half particular. you have to either beat your man,or go past the press like go longer in passes. villa played into the press and lost ball over and over again. the fans moaning at the long balls played dont realize that the long ball was forced on us. now the long ball were badly executed because they were panic balls. they were fired at davis and he had nobody around him but wednesday players. we were hammered first half and had no answer to their press

Tshibola is already back at Villa, because he’s been absolute shit at MK Dons. Another waste of space from Di Matteo.

Good on Bruce for realizing he should get checked for early Dementia. Being a center half, he was constantly heading balls. Personally think all players should get checked for early Dementia.

Very true. Bruce did say they checked other possible diseases/disorders but never for Dementia. While it could open a massive can of worms, it’s a great idea, especially for the older former players like Bruce, to get checked out.

If you believe the Mirror, we supposedly want Diame (and he wants us lol), as his time at Newcastle has been all as a bit-part player.

Hull Daily Mail claim we want Musa on loan, who rejected Hull in the summer but may join a Championship side in january.

Would fix two of the four positions we need.

Both would likely be loan deals, which we have the ability to do. Even if we wanted to sign Diame, he’d probably cost as much as Whelan has, so I can see it happening if Bruce wants it.

Also scouting some Scottish League one attacker who’s 18.
