Fulham hadn’t beaten the Villa at home in around forty five years. Until today.
So that’s yet another record broken that we didn’t want and something that’s becoming all too familiar.
It was pretty much the same old, same old really.
We huffed and puffed and I can’t fault the players for their effort. Indeed they played a very pacey game, helped by a Fulham side that had little to lose in being a bit gung ho, something that you would expect to be to our advantage.
But the simple fact for me is that as low in the table as Fulham are, they just looked that bit better quality and had a fair bit more incisiveness about them.
Perhaps it’s down to our player’s inexperience, but I’m not sure I buy that excuse now.
It’s not as though they’re a bunch of 18 year olds is it?
No, what it boils down to is that we are simply not good enough.
I could go on about our chances, but at the end of the day it’s a pointless task.
We simply should not be having the double done over us by a team that beforehand was bottom of the table.
I could possibly live with it, if it was a freaky type of win; that sort of thing happens.
But it wasn’t.
Let’s not forget Fulham had the ball over the line a third time, all bar about a centimetre.
That’s about as close as you get to a goal and in the days before goal-line technology, it could easily have been given.
The ref didn’t give it anyway, but you know what I mean, I’m sure.
So it could have been 1-3 then.
Would that have been a fair result? Not really, but let’s take nothing away from Fulham, they probably deserved the win.
Which frankly says it all and begs the question that if you can’t beat the bottom side at home, who can you actually beat?
It would seem we have more chance of beating Man City than anyone around us in the table at the moment.
While I’m on a total downer, I might as well complain about our disciplinary record.

Now while I know this doesn’t bother quite a few of you, who think that cynical footy is acceptable, I’m ashamed. This isn’t the Aston Villa I know.
For me the whole situation just isn’t good enough, something that it seems many of the fans who actually attended also think, from what I saw.
After we equalised, the crowd were great and really got behind the team.
Then when Fulham scored again, they started to leave in droves.
Give the fans signs of progression and hope and they’ll be there for the team.
The trouble is, I don’t see any signs of either.
Villa are rotten to the core. All this discussion re Lambert is nonsense and irrelevant. You Lerner fans will be saying precisely the same about the next manager. Wake up Lerner employs the same cheap options, the only thing that changes with Lerners managers are the names. They are all yes men who take on Lerners plan to run the club on a shoestring and avoid relegation. Lambert is awful and seeing him hide away against Stoke is embarrassing BUT he remains in place because it suits Lerner. Yes call for Lerner to go BUT no decent manager will take over instead as long as Lerner remains we will get MCLeish mark 3. As I see it we have two options for Villa 1, protest for Lerner OUT
2, accept relegation and hope financially Lerner walk, strip the club back and go back to a club where fans feel they belong and are considered respected by the board.
If it’s a choice of year after year of Lerner employing third rate mangers and players to finish fourth from bottom, let’s accept the inevitable and hope Lerner goes
Agree ted but Lerner will make sure we never go down he will always just do enough from a financial pov to ensure safety. If we were bottom two next jan he would prob conjeur up a bent type signing. But he won’t do it unless he has to. Lerner is to blame no doubt about it but lambert has still spent £40m and proved himself arguably the worst manager in the prem.
I see Hughton been sacked at Norwich hopefully they will take lamberk back
Just got over excited when I saw the headline ‘another premier league manager gets the sack’ unfortunately it’s not Lambert but Hughton!

Giddy and we won’t replace Lambert. Only when fans wake up and realise Lerner is the one pulling all the strings everyone else are puppets. Not until fans start calling for Lerner to go and by pass the manager will there be change. Without focusing on Lerner Lamvert will stay. Lerner will continue to deflect criticism and allow another manager to take the blame. Lerner out
I fully agree ted,unfortunately in this case action would be alot louder than words mate i feel we may only be the minority.we really could do with someone to get the ball rolling.i too live in hope mate.
They are only 2 points behind us as well. Shows even Norwich have more ambition than we do and Hughton finished 11th last year ffs
Neither Lerner nor Lambert has been ruthless enough.
I do not blame Lerner at all for signing Lambert. The only sensible reference point was his record at Norwich, and under Lambert Norwich were a better side than either Norwich or Villa are today. It could have worked, but it didn’t. My only caveat was how did Lambert come across at his interview? He blathers in post match interviews, says the same thing and in the very few TV occasions when he is asked to expand on strategy, he does not seem to have any. A warning surely to Lerner was that all Prem managers while serving do a TV pundit job for one of the channels about games not involving their team. I never saw Lambert do that as Norwich manager, just as well because I can barely make out what he is saying and I am a Scot myself. The TV sports producers must have reckoned he was a clot.
I blame Lerner for not sacking Lambert. Everything has got worse – yes I know he has been unlucky with injuries (you know what Napoleon said about lucky generals) but this is an alarming slide in performance by those players still fit.
As an owner you can carry the fans if you display the same amount of tolerance of managerial failure as they do. But if you pick 3 in a row like Houllier, McLeish and Lambert you have to question your own grasp of the business.
I blame Lambert for persisting with Baker, Bennett and Clark, and for buying Bowery, Lowton and Tonev. It is great business to get players out of the youth squads or lower divisions here and abroad and turn them into good Prem players. However most won’t make it so a manager has to have his finger on the trigger. The rookies have to show signs from the start of leaning fast. We are well past the point where this lot needed to have cut out the costly errors.
