Villa 0 – 4 Chelsea; others thoughts as well as mine.

Given the state that the club is in, we haven’t had many people submit posts over the last few months, but I got hit with a couple shortly afer the game yesterday and here they are, first from “Richard Webb”;

Why?? Watching villa chelsea match I think the manager should sack the first team and play the under 21 team.
To me they all are playing for the money and not the club. They all should be ASHAMED. What has the caretaker manager got to loose???
Drop the LOT and play the players who would give everything to play for Aston Villa.

And then, on a brighter note, from “Martyn Bishopp”;

I was at Feyonoord in 82 and Super cup vs Barcelona (got that out of the way), today I took my 10 yo son for his 1st game at Villa Pk vs Chelsea. Embarrassed as hell, but my son enjoyed the large spectacle.
When he asked why I was laughing out loud, I had to tell him about a fans song I just heard.
“He’s got a new car, he’s got a new car” You know the rest.
When Chelsea fans sang “we’ll never play you again”, Villa fans reminded them “Champions league, Ta Ra Ra”.
With fans like we have, we will be back.
Thanks to them for making a difficult day entertaining!

Which pretty much sums things up doesn’t it?
Those who actually bother to turn up are fuming and rightly so.
While Richard has possibly been turning up regularly and was just venting, Martyn’s post is perhaps the more worrying.

How are you supposed to persuade your kids to support the Villa, when even Leicester are streets above us?
It’s not like we don’t have enough on our plate in trying to challenge the traditional top 4/5/6, is it?

And even though I didn’t see the game, it turns out I wasn’t that far off the mark in the preview really.
The players tried a bit, but not enough and ultimately just weren’t good enough. Which I believe is ultimately what it boils down to.
But it’s mainly because too many of the team weren’t ready to be thrown in straight away in my opinion.
It’s a point that I think Sherwood might have been totally right about, with my 20-20 hindsight.
But now that they have been thrown in, they’ve been found wanting and their heads have dropped.

That’s not to say we don’t have some shirkers in the team though and we all know who they are.
But the likes of Gana, Ayew and Hutton have tried mostly.
Yes, even Hutton, who apparently got a standing ovation yesterday, even though he’d been sent off.
Ok, he’s been poor overall, but he has at least tried, hasn’t he?
And that’s all we want, as fans.
We can stand being beaten by better sides and have plenty of grace about us to applaud an adversary that’s simply played better than us.
It’s what the game’s about, after all, isn’t it?

So just as I was gutted that I couldn’t get to see the game, so I was dismayed to read some of the punters’ comments.
The killer was David Pleat saying Chelsea looked like they were playing against a load of cones in a practice session.
I think I’m glad I didn’t get to see it.

So it seems if Norwich do better than us next week, we’re down.
Not that any of us believe we could win every one of our games left.
Rather, my tongue in cheek comment a couple of weeks back about us not getting another single point is much more likely.

Part of me says let’s get the season done and dusted.
But there’s a big part of me that’s seriously worried about next season.

The Martyn and his lad scenario is the most upsetting side of all this though.

That said, my old man (God bless him) first took me down the Villa as a nipper, when we were in a worse state than this and
MY EYES HAVE SEEN THE GLORY! of all but the FA cup.
Hopefully Martyn’s nipper’s eyes will too.

There’s no doubting Villa’s fans, if you give them something to get behind and cheer about.
But we have to be careful we don’t lose the kids.

Do I smell a “kids for a quid” type campaign coming on; for EVERY game in the championship?

Hmm, there’s a thought.

I hate this Hutton tries tales,he is worst full back we ever had, watch highlights of goals conceded this season he is never doing what he supposedly paid to do defend, Chelsea 3rd yesterday another shambles marking space,he can’t cross no assists so rule out attacking use,at least 30 goals have came down his side, and yesterday first booking should been red last man

      JVillan,
I know you’ve been consistent on this point, but I comment on what I see mate.
And for me he at least looks like he’s trying.
I haven’t said he’s been any use for a long while, although he was up there for player of the season (was it last year or the year before?); that’s how poor we are.
Totally agreed, he’s been useless this season, but it seems I’m not alone in thinking that he does at least try, as the ovation yesterday showed.
Unless you think it was a piss-take ovation?
i’ve not seen any hint of that, fwiw.

It boils down to the fact that I’d rather give credit to a crap trier than a talented idle bastard, at the end of the day.

After next week when relegation is confirmed Lerner has to put
Guzan Hutton Richards lescott wastewood bacuna Gabby on gardening leave say you take payoff and go or you won’t play to your contracts are up,worst squad of players ever put together
Guzan week after week errors gives his defence jitters looking at him,4th goal pathetic nearly as bad as earlier match v Chelsea pass out
Hutton own goal red card in 2 matches v Chelsea
Richards great tackle( coward) one goals yesterday why wasn’t he suspended like flabby
Lescott were was he going for first goal, same all season hopeless chewing gum King
Wastewood 4 years in pl as carragher says if he can play anyone can
Bacuna I want play champions league sorry Wycombe to good for laughing boy
Gabby more cards than goals, disgusting person,as Andy gray says complete conman

“why wasn’t he suspended like flabby”

Actually this Flabby thing looks a bit overblown to me.

If you read Black’s comment, he was only out so the situation didn’t deflect from the squad’s focus on the Chelsea game.
I’ve not seen a comment that says the club have actually suspended him, but could easily be wrong.

As for Richards, well that’s footy isn’t it?
You can’t just sack players because we think they’re crap.
Otherwise they’d be getting sacked every week at every club, wouldn’t they?
Like Ronaldo would be sacked for not maintaining one in two, or whatever.

It seems to me – not being an expert in these things – that one of the major problems is the players play like strangers – they don’t play as a team. You don’t need the best players in the world you need a team that works together to create a strong unit.

There are some decent players at VP and there are some potentially decent players that can knit the side into a team but neither Sherwood nor Garde have managed to achieve it.

Throwing all the players out of the door will only create major problems in building a new team – the new manager has to be selective and remove the ‘bad eggs’ but leave a nucleus that want to play for the shirt – and that might include some players that aren’t the most popular such as (dare I say it) Westwood or Hutton.

      Hitchen
      What’s your idea of midfielder
      IE wastewood
For me your midfielder should be
      Physical
      Good tackler
Disciplined ( not getting yellows for nasty late lackles)
      Can score goals
      Can make goals
      Can get about the pitch
Hit a deadballs( not first defender)
Wastewood fails miserably in all above

      1. Hitchens 60 avatar
        Hitchens 60

Mid fielders have a range of skills and you need a balance between those skills across the whole of the mid field. The point I was trying to make (BB makes it well in a later post) is that Westwood has skills but what he has is wasted because we don’t have and decent attacking mids that can benefit from his distribution ability. I agree he isn’t going to be a top star but in the right mid field he would be very effective.

If you want an example then look at Allbrighton since he’s been playing in a better side at Leicester.

You can make a similar comment about Hutton when playing for Scotland and Clark when playing for NI.

Of course it’s only my opinion and not everyone (anyone 🙂 ) will agree!

      2. Andrew avatar

May be reading this wrong, but you want a single midfielder to do all of that? Or the entire midfield? Because if it’s the former, then the only thing that fails is your understanding, if it’s the latter, then yes that’s how midfield’s should be set up. Seeing you basically attributed every type of midfielder into one and there’s only one midfielder playing right now that can do all of that and succeed, and he plays for Bayern right now in Vidal.

Funny thing is, he doesn’t fail at all of that, if you actually watched and could understood the type of midfielder Westwood is, you’d know he isn’t going to score you goals. Nor is he going to be physical. He’s a deep lying play maker. Has a wide array of passes, not a bad tackler, wouldn’t say 6 yellows is all that bad for a midfielder. I’d guess you’d probably rate Wanyama as a much better player (if you’ve ever watched him) and he’s currently leading as the worst disciplined player in the league. But basically those attributes you mentioned, you’d have to combine the likeness of Kante, Hamsik and Pogba to get the most complete midfielder, which is Vidal. And there’s 1, and he’s never going to join us, ever.

How was black able to drop/suspend Gabby as caretaker, yet remi as manager had to play him as for our players the reason we have been in bottom 4/5/6 for 5 and now relegation they are all crap, especially the ones here for a while Gabby Hutton zog all bar benteke of Lambert 30 buys,Richards lescott and rudi as for baker and Gardner coming back and building promotion team round them both are injury prone, not very good this is a bigger mess than most realise,we need complete clear including k Mac (are youth don’t seem any good if they can’t dislodge the crap we have)
Badger just watch goals. Conceded from Hutton own goals,Penn’s conceded gaps you could drive an article lorry down gallops up the field ambles back, crosses out for goal kick, remember Gabby fooled people for years

  5. Bar amavi & ayew you can fuck the rest off what’s left?? That’s how SHITE we are.why bother with the academy??hoping we find a real gem??the whole selection system needs one big shake up we may well need these youngsters next season fuck knows how they’ll get on in one of the toughest leagues going.I for one am dreading it

  6. It’s a sad reflection that Hutton gets a round of applause and is seen as one of our better players because he tries. Yes, he does, but he is a truly awful defender and will get exposed in the Championship just the same.

Also watching on Saturday we had 3 ‘holding DMs’ yet 3 of Chelsea’s goals came from midfield players running from deep – not tracked and not picked up by players who are too lazy, too apathetic, too poorly motivated and overpaid.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar

Agree he’s average at best but it proves that all villa fans want us commitment and desire from players and to go down fighting. If the other 10 players had the commitment of Hutton we might still be within a chance.

  8. i see westwood is getting all the shit again, if you have a 442 system your midfield will consist off a full bloodied defensive midfielder, one who can break up attacks and collect the occasional yellow, then you have a holding midfielder, someone who is available for a pass and can carry the ball before bringing other elements into play, ie your attacking midfielder’s or occasional through ball to your mobile attackers,so when you see a sideways pass its because the other idle bastards are in their comfort zone of watching the game instead of having a go, as an aside if these allegations of drugs are founded and the fa relegate these teams to the lowest tier of football, does that mean we don’t get relegated, so come on Bernstein its your destiny to save the villa,

    1. DSVilla avatar
      DSVilla

Have to agree BB. Westwood will not pull up trees, but is a steady midfielder who helps recycle the ball. Some of the players have talent, but clearly they are are a dispirited bunch who seem defeated almost before the start of the game, and certainly after conceding a goal.

I think it is fanciful to expect a wholesale change of playing squad. Sure there are some who will go, but I can’t see a major investment in players for next season.

I don’t really know who we need as manager, but it needs to be someone who can galvanise the players (a bit like Sherwood did at first), bring in some winners on a limited budget, organise the team and keep them motivated. That’s a tough ask the way thinks look.

Sacking the underperforming management team is easy, sorting the players is a much tougher job. It remains to be seen whether the new board can pull that off.

  11. totally agree with ooohahaha post on hutton.

while we all know hes not a Philipp Lahm type fullback, wing back what ever their title is these days.hes committed 101% both in defending and attacking. this is why, the crowd i FEEL gave him a nice reception, when heading into the tunnel.they see what we see him giving 101% to the villa cause.

our disastrous season, is down to players collectively not being good enough, not individually lacking. i think they gave up before remi and was because they know themselves they aren’t good enough. dislike my comments, thats my OPINION and iam sticking to it.

blooding the youth into the 1st team, has to happen now, only because the fans now have lost their patience with the bacuna’s richards guzans etc its a toxic atmosphere, the remaining fixtures aren’t that important. too us. fook integrity for the premiership our future comes first. with a team of promising youth and committed senior players should be fielded from now on.

    1. Also not worried about ‘Premier League integrity’ as we’re breaking it now by playing the same shower of shite week in, week out.Guaranteed 3 points for anyone who turns up.

We’d be actually being fairer to other clubs if we do as Nath suggested and play the kids. At least there’s the faint hope of points if we do, there’s no hope with this current bunch.

Come on Hollis, Bernstein, Bevington and King – rustle up enough money to pay off the wasters’ contracts and then escort them out of Villa Park making sure they each receive a good kick up the arse as well as their fat cheque.

      1. Sir Earl Barratt avatar
        Sir Earl Barratt

Totally disagree Pat. As someone posted earlier, those utter w@nkers that have taken us down deserve to play every week now, being booed and ridiculed. Don’t let them off the hook by dropping them, that’s what they want. In fact lets get Gabby back in the team as soon as.

There should be a cenotaph erected outside the holte with the names of the useless squad that have been utterly lamentable this season, with the heads of Lerner, fox, et al carved in as a reminder of the death of our club. Generations to come should never forget what a sad demise it’s been.

        1. Yes exactly and it was myself who mentioned this the other day.
I want it known everywhere possible how awful this crop of players have been.
I want the media and pundits to continue slating these so called footballers until the very death of this season.
You know what even when we are officially relegated and believe that could be as soon as this weekend, I want these wasters to play, make them play and display their talent for the whole entire world to see. Let sky and bt play as many games as possible.

On another note I couldn’t help but think today why oh why did we let it get to this point.
Yes this has be coming for years but the way this season went from the very start of Gardes rain just wasn’t cutting it. Why did we carry on?
Yes the players would be the same but a real whip cracker could have dragged a result or two out of this lot. Even diving into the youth acedemy, pulling players back from loan.
Ok I understand there are finances to consider but do we all feel the board did everything they could to try their best to survive this season?
I know the board has changed now but was it so hard to see where this was going. A couple of wins maybe a win and draw a few weeks ago could have got the ball rolling. This club failed to muster up any sort of motivatation and momentum.
We never exhausted all resonable options.
We should have had crisis talks months ago. Recalled all players feasible and looked at this whole group. Wiped the board clean and started writing down are best starting 11 possible from scratch.
Everybody failed to attempt any escape.
I no what I’ve said sounds ironic but a 4 maybe even 3 weeks ago there was a chance, yet alone 5 or 6 weeks ago.
Good luck to this new board and I think it’s safe to say we fully support you swinging your axes wherever you please!!!!!!!!!!

        2. While keeping playing the crap might exact some sort of revenge against them the clock is now ticking and it’s not all that long before we’ll be kicking off in the Championship. If we can get a manager in now then it might just give him more time.

Although if I were a manager I might not want to be associated with the rubbish we’ve got on our books right now so I can understand why someone might want to wait wait for the close season.

However really, really worried that come August 6th, just 83 days or so after our last match against Arsenal, we might be very far from living up to our motto.

  12. Just what have things come to when Pearson is holding out for the Middlesbrough job over the Villa.
    Sad sad times.

    1. I don’t like the owner B w S,

  13. how much freedom will any new manager get, this board will be scrutinising every aspect, or they would be redundant, so i don’t think it will be a clearing of the decks we are hoping for.

  14. think we have analyse why garde had to go was it because he was fox’s man, or was it because he couldn’t get a result from this set of players, if it was the latter then he should of gone before xmas , and if so i think we will be managed by committee, and is possibly one of the reasons Reilly is still there

    1. originallondonlion avatar
      originallondonlion

Riley has not been fired yet, but he is nowhere to be seen in any part of the club. I still believe he has a case to answer that amounts to fraud.

Garde was only brought in because of Sherwood’s attitude to the Francophones which had alienated them. Garde just found out they really were as described by Sherwood, but there was worse, he could not get any effort from the English-speaking clique perhaps because he was French.

Get shot of the lot is my suggestion.

    http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/blog/2016/04/05/aston-villas-troubles-go-far-deeper-field-disaster

It’s a good article, which 100% backs up what I said in the headline post, in that we have to encourage the kids.
Which sadly, no one has actually commented on.

That’s something that makes me wonder if anyone actually reads what I write?

No worries though, as I accept that talking points will move about and my posts won’t always be up to speed 🙂

    1. Sir Earl Barratt avatar
      Sir Earl Barratt

Badger, villa make it impossible to encourage the kids and I’ll give you an example of their idiocy in just one post. I’m head of a school 2 miles from Villa Park. Number of Villa fans in it out of 250? 3, all staff including me. This Saturday at half time our school team will be contesting a final – a proud moment indeed for kids who aren’t blessed with the trappings of wealth and would be unlikely ever to go to villa park ever. Understandably, parents (not football fans) want to see their child play. How much do villa ask me for? £35 for adults and £18 for kids! I said that they could afford to give us 50 free tickets and still be shy of capacity by 10k but of course it’s not the workers in the ticket office that make the decisions. What an opportunity to catch 10 or so families and say, please come back and see us next season. £35 for a parent who struggles to find £5 for electric. Needless to say, the school will be paying.

We play in claret and blue so if you are there on Saturday, get your pie and pint while the people who don’t deserve your effort are still playing and come out at half time and give us a cheer on please. It will be the proudest moment of our kids lives and I can guarantee that they will put in more effort in the seven minutes they’ll be playing than a season of lescott, Richards, Gabby, Richardson and Guzan rolled together. If nothing else you’ll get to laugh at me trying to keep up with the kids as we run round the pitch after!!

      1. Bum Bum avatar

No local fans out of 250????? That’s a disgrace, and failure by the club.

A few blues, mostly sky 4. If you can’t afford to go to a match you can support who you want! Given the choice I wouldn’t inflict this past few years on my kids either! Sadly for them, like us all, it’s on their birth certificate so they get no say and no choice! UTV!!

    2. Hitchens 60 avatar
      Hitchens 60

Badger – three points about playing the kids – if the dressing room is as bad as suggested is it a good move to introduce young players to that and secondly whilst youngsters will get more leeway from the fans, the mood is so bad, how long before they get dragged into the general anti player feelings? The final point was made by the young Chelsea CB who was ‘shocked’ by the atmosphere at VP. There will continue to be anti Lerner protests and the atmosphere will be aggressive and toxic – again is this the right environment for young players to come in to?

Personally, I would like to see the younger players introduced gradually next season when one hopes there may be more positive feel about VP – but then again…..

    3. The worse franchise in professional American sport sums it up really. Randy’s just kept to form.

  17. I think most fans on here knew what was coming when news of the Browns started to show, we had one Brown’s fan pop in and told us what that prat off an owner was like, yes your right this is not going away next season believe me, that Yank is worse than Deadly in business , we are in for a rough ride with him , why are we not being told anything to ease our pain ? that lot of so called board men don’t really understand what’s up ,they still think it will go away, the club is still rotten to the core, why his he spending money on top people to put it right and just carrying on regardless, truth is they haven’t a clue, Pearson and other managers wouldn’t touch our club with that Yank as owner, putting Hollis as chairman will not hide that that Yank is crooked in business.

  18. #Of an owner.

    And to cap it all, it seems we’re going to spend £2 mill on removing the “Prepared” from the badge;

    I find it mind-boggling.

    1. Next they’ll be removing the lion what a joke

      1. Being run by a bunch of kids, unbelievable and a massive waist of money, and we pay then pillocks to run a historical football club.

Let us wait and see what the club reveals first. Regardless of the ironic timing and manner in which the logo is being rebranded the current logo had to go.

If ‘prepared’ is going I almost wonder if they are going back to a round crest? If so I am excited.

Sod the round crest, even though I prefer it.
“Prepared” has always been the bit that excites me most, as in “bring it on”.

If indeed you can get excited about a badge.

While indeed the motto seems inappropriate just now, it seems to me we’re giving up on something important.

And who gives a toss if the lion didn’t have claws?
        I never even noticed, tbh.

It’s a bloody lion, that’s in a fighting stance, that’s ready for anything that’s thrown at it, as in “Prepared”, simple as.
And I don’t care about the shape of the badge.

Whatever our difference of opinion here, I have to wonder what the hell these people are thinking, especially when they’re probably being paid mega-bucks.

It’s change for changes sake and proves how the previous lot were totally out of touch, imo.

Will this changing the badge really improve shirt sales?
        I very much doubt it.

I wish I could find a link to a (not local) article I read, a few years back that stated that Villa fans spend more on merchandise than any other fans in the Prem, per head.

        1. The club is crashing unceremoniously from the top flight with the worse team ever assembled at VP. They’ve scored less and conceded more goals than any team. We’ve been through plans from A to Z and almost as many managers. A clueless owner and ever changing board and they discuss the badge and motto? Just maybe there are bigger issues at hand but somehow it figures.

Well being someone who works in the design and advertising industry I care very much about badges, although we are not talking about a simple logo design – we are talking about a new brand identity for a multi-million dollar company, of course it won’t be cheap.

          1. Good for you Marv, money well spent.
Three cheers for the advertising industry…
            Hip Hip Hooray.

Especially as they’re simply changing it to ‘Unprepared’…

      1. Or “Peppered”.

I think they will be altering it to say “ill-prepared”

  25. I think they were afraid of being had by Trading Standards for flagrantly misrepresenting their organisation.
