Well, I’m sorry, but it might as well have been.
I don’t have much to get away from saying that losing to Palace 3 – 0 was an utter disgrace.
But what annoyed me most was the awful tactics employed by Unai.
Make no mistake, the tactics were horrendous.
Any man and his Jack Russell could see that it wasn’t working. We kept playing that backwards, sidewards rubbish that has bored the crap out of us for weeks.
It was blatantly obvious that playing longer was the way to try and counter the way Palace were dominating the game quite easily, with their playing a low block and playing long as and when was required. And then Emery actually started to play like that after about 30 minutes.
I’ve always said that I don’t have a clue about tactics and I don’t profess to having a clue now.
But when you’ve got an idiot like me screaming at Emery to play longer, I just know something is not right.
The more concerning thing is that if Emery thought we might suddenly turn things around, we have a serious problem.
I didn’t write a post beforehand because I didn’t think it would go down too well, as I was privately predicting a 2-0 loss.
That was bad enough, but for us to actually outdo it amazed me.
From what I’ve heard, the natives were seriously unhappy tonight.
The grandsons left early and I believe they haven’t done that before.
We are not in a position where we can afford to be in the bottom 3, which I believe we will be after our 4th game, which is Everton away.
Europa league?
You’re joking, the way it’s looking.
Emery is on thin ice already.
Another one or two losses in the same way as we’ve started and I’ll be calling for him out too.
I can stand losing, but the football is shocking.
People are paying top money for this and it isn’t good enough.
I’m just glad that I’m not one of those who is handing their hard earned over.
If you’ve noticed some changes to the site then let me know what you think or if you have any ideas. I’m trying to help Badger out and the current design is just a stop gap for now.
Absolutely super job, mate! Nice one.
Top notch mate, well done and I know Badger’s extremely grateful for your help.
Great job on the improvements to the site! Now we can moan with style 🙂
Really good effort. Looks amazing
Splendid site change, thank you!
The Martinez saga makes sense after his brother’s comments. I think all the players were told in May when the UEFA judgement was known that Villa needed to sell at least one of them for a hefty fee, just to avoid further fines. There weren’t many options for a single sale. Ramsey, Watkins, Martinez – assuming Rogers and Kamara were ring-fenced.
All three would have been told if the right offer comes in we have to take it. Ramsey it was, and you can understand Mings comment when Ramsey was trolled by Villans.
OLL – add to that Konsa’s recent comments, and previously those of McGinn and Emery, it does appear that the squad have been distracted and unsettled by the impact of PSR and EUFA’s restrictions.
Emery has to get them focused and use what they see as unfair financial restrictions as a driver to prove they can succeed nonetheless, rather than feeing they are victims; increasing criticism, in the media, of the financial rules as they stand doesn’t help.
Feeling ‘hard done by’ leads inevitably to failure, not success.
Keep those comments about the changes coming chaps, please.
I can’t say I’m keen on the greeny reply button, but if others like it, I’m easy.
Otherwise, nice job!
It comes with the theme but I can change that. If anyone has any ideas for what they want on the site, reply here and I’ll see what I can do when I get back from holiday.
Ah, sorry 1874 didn’t see your comment before I replied to Badger.
I like the green, or is it aqua?
One practical comment, on my phone if i hit the like button, a ‘Share’ window pops up that won’t go away. The like button is also very close to the Reply button for those of us with fat fingers.
Site looks cracking!!!! 😁
How about a claret and blue button or is that me being rather silly 🙂
Perhaps just claret then like the headline?
Just suggestions, not a criticsm.
Good idea. As I said this is just a stop gap to make it look a bit better for now so everything can be changed.
I’d also hide on hide the tag cloud and 2 x post archives on the post page too – too much scrolling on mobile. Looks good though.
Can I suggest numbering the posts so people can refer to them.
I like it, green or claret and blue. Why are we worried over what the PSR or EUFA says, they haven’t done sod all to the other so called big six have they. Too me it stinks of corruption full stop bent gets. As for that England game rubbish instructions and excuse given after the game.
Not football but just have to celebrate our close family friend Jacob Bethell’s first century for England and his maiden professional century.
Well done Jacob we’re all very proud of you.
1874. I’d stop asking for suggestions now! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nobody has really mentioned Konsa’s replies to questions about Villa during England duty.
They are VERY telling and it explains a lot. Whatever our thoughts about them being overpaid part timers, they are still human beings and subject to natural reactions. We know systems everywhere are subject to emotional fluctuations and require management and careful mature handling.
The success at Villa Park has been astounding since Emery took over and we are still entitled to our opinions.
To me it looks like PSR (and its variations) have really affected us in ways we thought unimaginable. We are in a clear ascendancy and the FIFA/UEFA/The Premier League/The Sky 6 are genuinely conspiring to keep us out of the picture. This is not a conspiracy theory. No wonder everyone is pissed off and at sixes and sevens.
The aim now must be to focus the anger and show them what we’re made of. We need to get ANGRY. Us supporters included and we need to get behind the squad.
Everyone at the club will see what’s happening and I think they’ll react accordingly but they need our support to do this.
The new signings, whether loan or permanent, and, if we can be lucky and stay largely injury free, we could be due a VERY good season. Emi staying, I’m well chuffed at and the attempts by the media to derail us is disgraceful.
Let keep together as Villains and roar our team to success starting at Everton!!!! Remember when Olaf was the first to score at the Emirates? Let’s do it again and show them Aston Villa FC mean business!!!
UTMFAV!!! (Work that one out for yourselves 😁).
P.s. And a bit less of the tippy-tappy playing out from the back please!!!!
Tbf Bum Bum, I did refer to Konsa’s and other comments by Villa in regard to the implications of the financial regulations and their disproportionate effect on teams.
My point, like yours, is we mustn’t see ourselves as victims but an opportunity to raise two fingers to the establishment!
Must have missed that. Blinded by the lovely new design!!! 😁
We do need to dig deeper this season!
1874, for info, I’ve changed the setting for branding/sharing on Like button and removed it, as I agree, it’s annoying.
I suspect it’ll take a while to kick in.
I’m not sure if I should follow the jetpack boost thing and update the critical CSS or not. The site doesn’t use it, but it does use jetpack.
Have you still been doing loads of work on the site over the weekend? I ask as I must have had a hundred notifications that the site has gone down and then has been restored.
Otherwise, I quite like the theme. Thanks, big time, for helping out. It’s 100% appreciated.
I’ve also darkened the text slightly, just to increase the contrast for my old eyes.
If people don’t like it, feel free to change it back 🙂
All good Badger
Unfortunately, the theme being used is causing big problems for the site and it’s constantly going on and off line.
If 1874 doesn’t sort it soon, I’ll have to, but I’m very reluctant.
In other news Forest have sacked Nuno and appointed Ange. What a massive mistake.
Just think we might have got an ego, sorry Chairman like the imbecile Forest have.
I’ve regenerated the CSS and hoping that should help. I’ve checked on both my laptop and phone and it seems to be downloading okay. Please post if you’re still having problems.
I forgot to tell you. I turned all the plug-ins off and regenerated the CSS everytime I turned one back on, to try and isolate the problem yesterday. No joy, I’m afraid. I’ve had 13 notices of it having gone off since midnight.
The last one was at 1pm. It’s annoying because the site is working perfectly apart from these shutdowns. They only last a few minutes, but you know how it is. It puts people off.
I’ll continue to monitor it and tell you if it’s still happening.
I might try turning all the plug-ins off and just leaving it overnight to see what happens.
Great post bum bum and badger the site looks great thanks
All plug ins are turned off until tomorrow morning. I need to find out what’s causing this.
If anything isn’t working, you know why chaps.
Tuchel is obviously checking the squad out, but I expect another boring load of tripe.
In fact I’m off out for a Chinese soon, as we come home tomorrow night. Gutted isn’t the word.
25c in the morning here and it was 10c in Birmingham this morning, I believe 🙁
England team v Serbia:
Pickford, James, Rice, Konsa, Guehi, Gordon, Kane, Rogers, Livramento, Madueke, Anderson
Subs:
Quansah, Eze, Henderson, Rashford, Burn, D Henderson, Spence, Gibbs-White, Loftus-Cheek, Bowen, Watkins, Trafford
Great moment to see that Serbia have a tasty right back and then realise it’s our Ned
Good game for a change last night. 3 Villians on the pitch! Even though the ball went to the back three when pushing forward as we do, they didn’t hold onto the ball for an age. They passed it forward quick sharp, which was much better to watch. I think Konsa will bring a bit of this back to VP.
A goal for Konsa, assist by Chesty and penalty won by Ollie!
Even though they went low block, getting to the goal line and crossing the ball back in towards the goal seemed to be the answer.
How nice to see an England team putting in a Team performance. Despite, or because of, the absence of Bellingham, Cole, and Foden. A new defensive CB partnership without the ever-injured Stones and past it Maguire. Guehi and Konsa kept it tight and as a bonus scored their first England goals. I am not a fan of Bellingham – very talented but he hogs the ball too much.
Very interesting now to see whether Tuchel brings back the stars when fit, or gives yesterday’s team another run out.
Typical. I go out for something to eat, miss the game and we actually play well.
When’s the proper footy start?
In better news, the site didn’t crash at all last night, so it’s definitely a problem with one of the plug-ins. I’m very slowly turning them back on, one by one.
And in even better news, the missus goes home tonight, but I’ve extended my stay by another 6 days.
