Randy Lerner has been looking to sell Aston Villa since the summer and had given the task of selling the club to the Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Two parties have showed their intent of purchasing the club and have already held discussions in regards to a potential take over. However there are two issues that may impact the sale of the club.
Firstly, Premier League survival. A common theme that is always brought up when discussing the sale of the club. Should Aston Villa get relegated the current price of roughly £100 million would drop significantly. But it’s unknown whether or not relegation would have an impact of the clients interest in the club.
Coincidentally, should Villa stay up, Villa would benefit from the £5 billion TV broadcast deal effectively increasing the value of the club. But it’s unknown whether or now Lerner will increase the price of the club should this occur.
While the sale of the club may not rank very high on the list of concerns a Villa fan may have; it’s still good to see that there are two serious parties and some level of discussions have already taken place. A new owner by the summer transfer window would be fantastic, as fresh investment might potentially steer Villa club of a relegation battle for at least a season.
