I totally agree SEB. Bent has been somewhat harshly treated on the face of it.
This is one of the reasons why I still have doubts about Lambert.
I can see the logic that says we need to cut the wages and go for cheap hungry kids etc, but I personally suspect it’s more that PL has to be the biggest ego and doesn’t like that being threatened.
You’ll never convince me that the best way to handle Bent’s departure was to drop him from the squad.
That’s appalling business sense and I’ll bet it hasn’t come from Learner.

Cut the wages, yes, but lose way more than you need to via the sale price????

I just don’t see the sense in it.

And no-one has yet mentioned what happens if Benteke gets injured.
If that was to happen, who would most people’s money go on to be the top scorer from the options that we currently have?
Even though we don’t play for his style?

Yeh but Nick Powell doesn’t sound as fancy as Hiroshi Kyotake.

On a serious note though, re Bent, I do agree that he has been a little hard done by. However, to play devils advocate he was given captaincy when PL arrived and for good reason, a senior head with bags of experience and knows the block. He was given his chance and did, well, piss all.

It’s nothing to with PL’s ego, or as I read that PL is threatened by senior players and wants only kids so he can be the daddy. That’s just not how I see it. For me it’s as simple as the fact that PL wnats to build a team all fighting for each other a proper football team. Not a bunch of individuals (talented even though they may be). He has given all of the ‘bomb squad’ a very generous rub of the green and they haven’t cut it unfortunately.

However, yes, out of all of them I think Bent (if only he was on lower wages) would still be a decent contribution to us. Fair play to him wherever his next step is, he will score wherever it is, guaranteed goalscorer, and to be fair to him he has been a very very class professional about the whole situation. I think when he leaves he’ll have some words to say about the way he was treated by PL.

Bent = lazy = simple = we cant carry passengers. Dont confuse the isuue lads. PL sees him every day in training. Why the fuck should he be allowed to take the piss out of our great club with his attitude. He is the typical type of player who got us into this financial mess that ee now find ourselves in!
    Get rid ASAP

I agree to an extent but Benty did keep us in the PL so Goodluck to him but also a happy goodbye as it is what’s best for him as AVFCs new make up does not suit a Lineker type forward….Great finisher Bent….Good pro…

Bent was bought because we needed a player just like him and he did what he did and scored enough goals. I hope he finds a new team so everyone can progress, I hope he doesn’t come back to haunt us.

Can you qualify ‘lazy’ Rotterdam82? Everybody knew what he did when we bought him and he delivered. It’s not his fault that he doesn’t do what Lambert wants is it? I can’t get a plasterer in to do work, tell him my bog needs fixing and when he says he can’t do it call him lazy! Even if you have inside knowledge of him on the training ground what motivation is there for him to bust a gut when he’s been told that the likes of Jordan Bowery will be above him in the pecking order? I’ve got a funny feeling which of he two the history books will show has scored the most goals in the famous claret and blue in the years to come.

I will reiterate, I don’t believe that we should keep him but making out he’s shit is doing me in. Bent has been managed poorly in my opinion and done not a lot wrong yet our captain openly said he’d piss off if we got relegated towards the end of last season, and still people clapped like seals and sung his name – it defies belief. Let’s be positive about the future, not try to rewrite history.UTV

How do I qualify lazy….simple. He is apassenger. Whilst others around him bust a gut for the Villa he takes the piss with his massive wages and couldnt care less about the TEAM attitude. The ‘team’ is the important word here. If you have watched him regularly you will see that he is disinterested in the TEAM….only himself. Do you not think that PL sees this attitude in training or that the other coaches advise abou himt his attitude and work ethic. Not being a ‘team player’ in a team game is despicable in any walk of life! Look at the great strikers Van Persie, Messi. Ronaldo, Rooney….all score loads of goals AND work hard for the team… Ask yourself why none of the sky 4 have never been seriously linked with him. Bent takes the piss out of the club I love and thats not acceptable!

PL did give Bent Ireland Banana Given all a go.. If they had performed well he wouldn’t have dropped them.. Simple.

Look at Gabby.. He’s worked hard and kept his place in the team..

Jay Dee.. Don’t think it will be both..

I think AM is the only position PL is looking at..

Can’t see him buying another CB.. Making Clark and Baker 4th and 5th choices..

Central midfield.. He has Westy Delph Sylla GG.. Fighting for two places if an AM comes in..

Actually if you look at last season.. the likes of bent Ireland Bannan Given were all part of the squad and there wages were OK.. they didn’t need shifting.. PL was told he had a set amount to spend on wages so he went out and got young lads on 10-20K..

Now if Ireland had provided the ammunition and Bent had banged in the goals.. Given pulling off top saves.. they would ALL still be part of our team and not bombed out..

Which clearly means that we do have money when it comes to wages..

Right now the problem is that there all shite ( minus Bent ) and still on the wage bill.. once all have gone next summer i can see some real movement on quality players coming in..

Whoever gets Bent will certainly get a massively motivated player – out of the bomb squad he is the only one who has expressed his desperation and is pushing for a move so that he can get game time. Only question is will that added motivation drive him to work harder and run outside of the 12 yard box for his new team or at 29 yrs is he too set in his ways to change even with the best will??

Hopefully, Bent leaves and has a domino effect on the rest of the bomb squad as at the moment they’re all probably tightly knit

You missed the overall point if the post Foxy.. Which was that if all the above had performed they would still be in the team.. High wage or not..

      Which is a plus..

I think we will be in for an AM this season and from next with a settled squad we can add a quality player each window to a position PL sees fit to strengthen..
