I’ve noticed that quite a few articles are starting appear about our links with Kiyotake this morning. I think I would really like this to happen.

Can’t see Bent taking a pay cut to go to Selhurst, and he’d undoubtedly want some form of relegation release clause.

I cant believe it is so tough trying to shift bent, I mean ffs he’s a top goalscorer going for a song! I can only imagine clubs are just trying to push the price down even though he’s already cheap as chips.
I relegation clause might see him go to palace and a chance to play, he must be dying to stick it to villa so may take a pay cut.
either way clubs are passing up a bargin imo in failing to sign bent.
I realise he didn’t play much last season but that is reflected in the price.

I can see clearly why Bent is hard to shift…. Here are just 3 reasons:
      1. Wages….. Is he willing to take a pay cut?
      2. He is bone idle…. Do you really think that its only PL that knows that. Moreover, you have to spend a significant amount of money to supply him… If you dont, then its a waste of time and money buying him. To add to that, its like starting every game a man short. PL soon sussed him out!
      3. He has no sell-on value whatsoever. So to pay 6mil and 3mil a year in wages is not a viable option for most clubs….. Put it this way, we got our 6 new signings for the equivalent of the cost of Bent transfer fee (6mil) + 2 x yearly salary (6mil)
He wont be easy to shift in the current climate!

We are defo in for Kiyotake its all over the media.Jsoccer magazine in Japan had a personal int with Kiyotake. The writer co/ owner is an AVFC supporter and knows Kiyotake well.I follow a ST holder who does write for another site and is normally pretty spot on and says we are well in for him and AVFC want him.We will have to wait and see. This connection with Kiyotake is gathering speed….Be a good signing if we can get him.But I think it all depends on the transfer funds from DB…..UTV

Great news JD, I’m confident we can offload Bent in the next week or so. He wants to play football and I’m sure he’ll take a knock on his wages to do so.

The way I see it is that this is the guys final shot a playing for England in a World Cup. He is a proven goalscorer and if he can go to a fulham or a palace and back 15 goals this season he’s in with a shout. Unlike Ireland, I think he’s a player who wants to play rather than sitting around collecting a paycheck. We’ll see but thats my feeling on it

Irelannd Hutton, Bannan, Given are a different kettle of fish

As we all know mate, wages are the issue. I’m sure an agreement will be made-considering the reason I mentioned above- someway or other, he personally should understand that he just isn’t getting those kinds of wages anywhere else in the country and if wants his last shot he needs to budge, as I said I’m confident he will realise this. This is the whole reason teams are bidding 4 mil for fcuk sake, it’s a joke, he’s easily 8mil. There aren’t any other proven year in year out, with any team, goalscorers like him at PL level. Teams do want him, but it’s him who needs to take a pay cut on the chin.

I find it a bit laughable that all the pundits lambasted us for putting such a prolific player such as Bent on the bench, that any team would jump at the chance to have him, and now… crickets. Even at a fraction of the price he’s worth. We have him for 2 years right? Are the wages too high for even a loan? Not ideal, but clearing space.

Would love to see Kiyotake at Villa, he could be that creative link we desperately need in midfield and IMO would become our 2nd best player after Benteke. Was massively impressed when I’ve seen him play in Bundesliga, very high pass completion, composed but can tackle and take a good free kick too. Can’t see Nurnberg selling on the cheap, will cost around or maybe more than £10m and I’m not convinced we would spend that on 1 player.

Bent is a idle player in today’s standards of football, no club will take a chance on his attitude in the game. If he was as some say, good then why is he not playing for Englang, he is and was a over priced footballer, cut our losses and move him on, Aston Villa is moving on from that type of player, Lads please don’t get carried away with what’s going on at Villa, the first 3 games will be hard to get results, it won’t mean a thing at first, l just think that we will be a club to show other clubs that the game belongs to the fans, Villa will finish mid table after that happy days, trust me, IMO. 🙂

fantastic post, especially the bit stating that Crystal Palace are in for Darren Bent. Shame it’s taken two days for the author(s) to pick up on this story and post it considering it’s was revealed on Sunday evening, By the Palace chairman that they were interested in Bent. Such is the author(s) in depth knowledge of Aston Villa they have to wait 2 days, until it is printed in a newspaper, before posting it. As said on a previous post, this site only has author(s) who print old news.

The Bent situation is just typical of the many deals which have screwed us up over the past 3/4 seasons. Players in on huge salaries, for big fees with little or no sell on value and no longer (or never in some cases) doing it for the first team. This is the backdrop that PL has been working against to manage the team, the wage bill and a squad built on the past.
IMO what he has done for us so far has been a superb job. Compare all the big name, big fee, big wages brigade with the business done this summer. Re-signing so many young British players on longer contracts, managing to get Benteke to sign up within a day of returning to pre-season, and particularly IMO the new deal for weimann which set the ball rolling. The average age of the squad is much lower, all the players we want are now tied to long term deals, on comparatively sensible contracts. If they are as committed on the pitch over the next 9 months it will be great business all round.

Whilst i think that Darren Bent should be sold I really don’t get what people have got against him. He is the same player with the same skills and attributes that he had when we bought him and he kept us up. He never ran around like George Boateng then either so it’s not as if he’s changed. As soon as we sold wingers and then never replaced them he was done for. You can’t turn on him for that and it’s not as if he was constantly in the papers slagging the manager or the club off like others have done – I don’t remember him getting pissed up and brawling with the manager. Why should he take a pay cut – would you? I for one wish him good luck wherever he goes and thank him for keeping us in the division.

I agree but I won’t start slagging him off because he doesn’t cover 5k a game – we knew that when we bought him. He needs people around him to give him the ball. he was never going to hold the ball up and start playing with his back to goal. Hope he does well at Fulham so good luck to him.

No, Top players adapt their game to the team and tactics played. Just because we sold the wingers, it does not give him a excuse to play in a lazy way. He should have bust a gut to create his own chances. This is why he’s never been a regular in the England squad and got quickly found out at Villa and Spurs. I thank him for his goals but he’s a lazy player.

Simple lads, he’s not our type of player now, OK Bent , Benteke, who would you pick every time you put out a team ? Benteke works, Bent doesn’t, Bent waits for balls, Benteke looks for balls, sorry lads Bent did a job for us and thanks, but he won’t fit into Lambert’s footballers of today, I’m not saying he’s useless just to much in wages and bad for Lambert’s plans.

Clearly Randy Lerner wants the players who are no longer part of the plan – got rid. But he, PF and PL know that will not be easy and may not be possible. So I reckon the wages of the ‘bomb squad’ have been factored into the budget. And when anyone asks why are we not spending the extra sky money, remember the millions we are spending honouring these players contracts. Even if we agree loans for any of them, we are still going to have to pay part of their wages. And, if as seems possible with the sale of Bent to Fulham or Palace, we are going to have to pay up on the shortfall between their new contract and the existing one. These players have no reason to consider accepting less. Bent is not going to play for England again, he has no chance. And the other players have no prospects of international recognition of any value. Let’s face it they are at the wrong end of their careers or are total crap. So I think, if the Kiyotake rumours are hot, then it will happen soon without any players moving out. RL is backing Lambert. UTV

A key part of progress from last year will be to get some goals from midfield. The potential starting 3 Delph Sylla and Westwood managed a combined total of 0 goals from 50+ starts last season. Even if the front 3 carry on as they finished last year, we still need a midfield contribution and neither Bacuna or Tonev are prolific.
So how about a move for Nick Powell? Apparently Utd want to get him out on a season long loan for experience, so there would be no fee, wages should be manageable and he fits the Lambert mould – young, hungry British talent. Well groomed at Crewe so could work well with Westwood….
Could be a useful part of the squad as an impact sub or an attacking option from midfield against weaker teams.
