According to the Mail Sherwood has said that any takeover is now dead!!! We’re going down next season unless there is a major turnaround in the way we spend.

B6 you couldn’t make this club up at the moment, it is like Billy Smarts Circus.
Say goodbye to any investment this window, I can’t seeing us staying up !

That’s quite disrespectful to Billy Smarts circus Saddened. 😉 I wonder if Delphs decision to stay had anything to do with this, he does have a really good relationship with Lerner apparently.

As per previous post, I think you are way off the mark. Guzan is a red herring. He isn’t the greatest goalkeeper, but he is probably good enough at the moment. We have far more important positions to fill. Full backs, creative midfielder/Number 10, and attacker. I think we will see quality additions in those places, with a number of existing players becoming backups for these.

I don’t have any real evidence to support that feeling, but time will tell.

Actually, I just watched Sherwood interview on Sky Sports website. Talking about holding on to Delph, he said it was now “up to us to put some quality players around him”, and that Delph liked what he heard when told about the club’s plans.

GUEYE. in, amavi bid accepted, praet coming over for talks, the only note of caution is sherwoods referral to ffp and a need to sell a few

Listen if we get Amavi and Praets and if Benteke goes get Charlie Austin then I think we’ll have a reasonable squad.

And remember it’s not just who you play but how they play. If Tim can get rid of the negative side of Villa’s game some exisiting players may start playing much better.

Don’t forget we also have Kozak and Gil who are basically like new signings anyway.

I’m feeling quite optimistic and after all, why ruin a good summer by being negative?

We dont really need a takeover….all we need is for Randy to let the moths out of his big fat wallet.

Apart from the takeover ‘being dead’ – BBC also report : “Sherwood added that he expects star players Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph to stay at Villa Park this summer.”

I must admit to being very positive about next season for the following reasons.

    * A Fox / Sherwood combination provide leadership that has capacity to make a positive difference to Villa’s fortunes.

    * Learner’s style of supporting his leadership team (whether they were good or bad) is a strength. Fox and Sherwood are strong enough to secure the financial support other the previous two managers could not obtain.

    * A Delph / Gueye partnership will provide a dynamism that can challenge the majority of Premier midfield’s.

    * The acquisitions of Richards / Sinclair add proven premier quality with points to prove.

    * I expect a further couple of reasonable buys to occur. It is a win / win with Benteke. If he stays, he will score a lot of goals. If he leaves the money will be invested in 2 / 3 additional quality players.

    * I anticipate 1 or 2 of the reserve players given the chance to break into the first team and play a handful of games showing promise for the future.

    * Gil and Kozak could well provide additional quality not expected in some quarters.

So yes, I am confident bout next season. Now for the long shot. I expect us to be back in the top 10.

Everyone was positive last year saying we’d even finish as high as 8th in some cases. Uncle OOHAGH said differently and was mocked. I’m saying the same thing again TS is it a long term solution and will be found out. If we keep benteke fir we may finish mid table if he goes or is injured we will still finish bottom 6. Nothing to get excited about I’m afraid.

I remember people claiming comfortable like 12th place, some said 15th, a few maybe said 10th, but there was little reason to be positive last year and most weren’t. Most now are as we looked positive under Sherwood and Lerner at least seems happy. Plus it’s more than likely Benteke’s staying, Gil’s back in the fold.

Well said on everything. Still have a few more to get rid of and a few more to come in. Sherwood looks like he knows what he’s doing, we have Fox and his financial guys doing really well. Completely agree that we look possible for a top 10 spot, but I’d say 8th-12th right now.

I think things are looking good for the following reasons:

Tim Sherwood and Ray Wilkins is a fantastic combo’ of youthful enthusiasm and positivity and experience and wisdom. Both are winners and have a winning mentality. They are in charge of the team. Fantastic combination.

The team’s form and general style of play when Sherwood came in, despite enormous pressure to avoid relegation. To be safe a game before the end and get to the cup final was nothing short of miraculous. Remember what most of you were saying when TS came in. Many had given up. TS and RW will no doubt develop the entertaining brand of football and I’m sure they will tighten things up at the back, with RW’s experience key.

I think we have a lot of talented players. Also, when making signings, you have to ask, are we getting better than what we’ve got? Richards is, for me, not even comparable to Vlaar. I’m glad Vlaar has gone. We are looking at getting a top class left back in. Rumours of a new number 1. I have been saying for years that Guzan is not up to scratch. Let’s see if we get someone…rumours of Andros Townsend. Again, incomparable to N’zog and would be a huge player for us if he comes in. Gueye probably better than Cleverly – time will tell…

Psychologically, Delph staying is huge. If he was my captain, I would listen to him and respect him and basically run through proverbial walls for him. While I’m here, will the Holte enders please get a nice big banner made for the skipper. If Collymore can have one, this guy damn sure deserves one!

The takeover falling through is positive. Sounded like a Ray Ransom esque ragtag group scraping the money together. Would’ve been a disaster. Tony Adams? Please…

The mood reminds me of when Big Ron came in. IF we get some quality in, as rumoured, and keep Benteke, I will stick my neck out and say minimum, top 8, with a cup run, and plenty of goals and entertaining football.

Fill Villa Park. Get behind the team and the manager. All is well at B6. Anyone feeling negative, go and see your GP. He / She can no doubt help you with that.

    UP THE VILLA!

DAD – nice to see you on here again – seems like ages since I’ve seen any comments from you – and welcome back another voice of reason.

There’s been far too much in the way of doom/conspiracy theories on here in the last few weeks. Most of us aren’t expecting miracles – Messi won’t be knocking on the door asking for a game in a Villa shirt anytime soon, we’re not expecting Sherwood to suddenly create a top-6 team out of nothing, nor even Lerner to suddenly find £50m of spare cash for him.

But yes, there’s a chance that Villa might not be the lame-ducks and losers that they’ve been for the last 4 or 5 years, and we might just give the ‘comfortable’ mid-table teams a serious problem next season.

Thanks Ardent! No doubt there will be ups and downs, but I think it’ll be exciting for the fans – nothing like Lambert’s reign.

Sherwood will end up like Lambert if he is not given decent financial backing. The only difference is that Sherwood will walk before being pushd.
In Sherwood I trust….in Lerner, I do not!
