Well all in all, a decent transfer window for us. Bit disappointed we didnt pick up a top class midfielder, but maybe in Jan.

Okore-looks class. Prob be our most important signing.
Luna- Really impressed so far and should only get better.

Tonev-I think now that we didnt buy another midfielder, we will rely on him to come good. At least he can take a set piece!

Steer, Helenius and Bacuna will just act as squad players, but they all seem up to the task.

Fabian Delph looks like a new signing…so I guess we did get one midfielder!!

Although I guess the best signings of the summer was getting Benteke and Weimann to sign new contracts…good job PL!!

BWS – the other price reported was £30million but there was nothing ever official was there? Just lots of websites repeating the same stuff and plucking figures and buyers out of thin air. My point is it’s best not to judge the owner or manager on internet rumours that have no basis whatsoever.

On the subject of transfers did you hear Garth Crooks on final score? He commented on how Villa (with Benteke), Liverpool (with Suárez) and Man U (with Rooney) had all stuck to their guns and told the player they were going nowhere as they were under contract, he (Crooks) thought this had started to bring the balance of power away from players and agents and back in favour of the clubs, not a bad thing imo and funny how all three clubs are owned by Yanks.

It was good to see though bale went. But lets face facts we would not have hold onto cb if this was not World Cup year he had no choice to stay. We all know he will be off to a sky 4 team next season just a question to who and how much. Then with the £40m or so we get for him Lerner can give lamberk another. Poxy 12m to spend on all the strikers he wants!!

I think he tried to force lamberts hand and spurs hoped we would let him go on the cheap so was just trying it on. When it became apparent that we held all the aces and prepared to use them Benteke backed down simply as there was a World Cup coming up and his only weapon of going on strike would have been to his own detriment. He knows he will go next season though unless he has a major injury or unbelievable loss of form

I reckon PDC at sunderland will be 1st to go, publicly slagging his players off on MOTD, lost the dressing room? then there’s Martinez at everton, a lot of everton fans never wanted him so anything other than major success will have them clamouring to put him out and then there’s mr moyes always on a hiding to nothing following ferguson, fellaini 27 mil, personally I don’t really rate him than high, he had a real purple patch for a few months last season but faded badly toward the end and has done jack shit this season so far, yp if felani is worth 27 mil then benteke has got to be 50, but based on that if bale is worth 80 mil than I’ve got to be worth about 50 thou surely? 😉

personally I reckon we’ve done some decent business, we got out targets in early instead of fucking about on deadline day paying over the odds and desperately trying to sign anyone, anyone! a lot of business yesterday smacked of that, arsenal and man utd especially. we’ve unloaded a couple from the wage bill, Ireland and bent and I can already see okore is going to be a good player, how much was he again 30 mil? 20 mil? no? omg how can he possibly play in the prem then? 😉 luna is defo an improvement on Bennett and we’ve got competition for the front line places, admittedly no cm but you cant get what aint there and we aint gonna go spending silly money on just anyone for the sake of it. I imagine we didn’t go for mcarthy because Whelan has put a ridiculous price tag on him, lots of interested clubs, no takers there says it all really.

NM – I’m mostly in agreement with you but I can see the midfield being fine, especially now with Delph coming on strong, Westwood improving on last year (hopefully) and competition from KEA, Sylla, Bacuna, Tonev, Bacuna, Gardner and even Helenius and possibly Wiemann for the other midfield spot. Could this be Gardner’s year? Will Herd have a massive breakthrough and get a starting spot? Is Sylla as good as he started to look and can KEA actually break into the team for good? OOHAH – that’s not an invitation for you to just heap negativity on everything (Sky4, Vlaar, Sky4, Vlaar, Lamberk Lerner out).

The Star is reporting that Arsenal put in a bid yesterday for Benteke but was turned down. Might be complete garbage, might not. Either way we’ve held on to him, Guzan and Wiemann; we’ve put out Bent, Delfouneso and Ireland on loan, with Bannan sold (but unfortunately still have Given and Hutton), and hopefully all their wages off the books; we’ve brought in some players in positions where we were clearly lacking last season (Okore and Luna) and we’ve strengthened elsewhere. No, we’re not going to win the league this season and the owner clearly isn’t going to pump in all his money to try to buy the title, so the team is being built up slowly but surely and I reckon is looking good.

Not forgetting that Grealish is coming on strong (a hat trick the other night) and both Carruthers and Burke are out on loan hopefully getting some experience in. Donacien also looked good in pre-season, I wonder how long until he goes on loan to a Championship club?

Why should we have belief for a club that has consistently struggled for 3 years and is only 14th in the list of spenders this season. The club is a joke until we start buying more established players and holding onto our best ones for a few years we will ever progress above mid table

But we did try and buy established players. Then we consistently struggled for 3 seasons. Say a lot, that what are considered established players ended up in the bomb squad and were our worse performers recently. Been there, done that, have the relegation battles to prove it.

The point I’m making is someone like Barry would if been a good bit of business to bring along the youngsters and at least he is guaranteed to give a 100%. Even though I don’t like loan deals on this occasion it would make sense as no risk and if he did well at least we would have a chance to keep him.

O’Neill bought established players, McLeish bought established players, Houllier bought established players and Lambert bought an established player you absolutely hate and another one you “don’t rate”. For the most part, every established player bought under the first 3, Villa fans wanted gone, for the most part anyways. So why in the world would you trust Lambert again in going for “established players” in which all of these players are having played 3-4-5 seasons despite their young age.

Funny how some of these guys have complained a the stupid transfer fees for players between other clubs then bitch when we don’t pay them. The if the tables were turned and we mention other clubs they ‘don’t care what goes on elsewhere’. We’ll be far from a relegation battle this year. I just don’t buy this Lerner being happy just to survive now. How the hell does that make us a commercial prospect to make profit? If that’s all you believe he wants. Sponsors wouldn’t be happy with it either. Makes no sense. We look a lot better and if we keep improving at the rate we have, I can see a fairly decent season moving on to better in the future. I’m happy. Obviously we’re about to be called a sheep etc… and we’ve been brainwashed I bet.

Sponsers don’t care as long as we are in the prem and we play the sky 4 games which are televised globally. Remember sponsers never pay us anywhere near as much as utd etc so their expectations are lower. There is nothing to suggest Lerner wants the club to challange again either. No one expects us to buy bale etc for £80m but we do expect this club to compete with teams like Southampton and Swansea Ffs

Lol, but we’ve never tried to sign the players Southampton and Swansea have. The only 2 big signings Swansea made were Shelvey who’s not better than what we have and Bony who we don’t need. Then they signed 4 Spanish players you’ve probably never heard of, a young English player for free and a young Cyprus midfielder for free from Olympiakos. The only reason they spent more than Villa was because of Bony, which we have Benteke, other than that, we spent more than them.

Southampton on the other hand needed a better squad, so what did they do? They spent 40 million Euros on 3 players. Lovren, Wanyama and Osvaldo. That’s what they did. That’s all they did. 3 players who yes are better than what they currently had but like Ozil to Arsenal, will cover the cracks of needing a better squad than just 3 players. Although Wanyama and Schneiderlin are probably the most exciting midfield duo going in the EPL. Just because they spent 40m Euros on 3 players, doesn’t mean they had a good enough transfer window. Hell they had West Bromich Away. Sunderland at home and Norwich away and came up with 1 more point than we did.

But the further up the table we get the more we can demand from them as we will get more televised games, so it makes a lot more sense to move forward. Too much emphasis is on how much we spent. At the end of the day its not money on the pitch it actual players. Some chairmen, agents and players are so greedy that it stands to reason fees are inflated by their ego’s and the price does not represent the quality. We got some promising players in that people in the game have said look like good signings. So what your saying is, just because a team considered smaller than us spent x amount, we should spend more than x amount even if its not on players we need or sustainable. I disagree, the manager should buy players based on what he feel he needs, not on what other clubs are doing. I look at our squad compared to Southampton and I’d take ours over theirs anyday, yet they spent more?? We are going to be absolutely fine. Based on what I’ve actually seen and the way we play, we’ll get more positive results this season.

Yes, with the squad they had last year. But this year we look a lot stronger. Showing even spending more doesn’t lead to more quality. Like was said above, how many points do you get for spending more?? Zero!! Its about how the players perform on the pitch, not the pound signs. We’re going up the table, have some faith man. Other wise, if you get your way, Lambert goes, we spend another month looking for a new manager and another 2 seasons in transition for you to complain about that guy not playing the way you want him too. Can you not see the viscous circle you could get us in. Now is the time to back this team, not stand in its way.
