Top of the League (without Top 6)

BetFair are taking bets on who will be the top team next season without the top 6. And Villa are tipped as the best bet to be that team. They believe that Everton, attracting the best odds and who have been traditionally in that top 8, are a team in transition this season especially with the likely loss of Baines and Fellaini. Swansea and Southampton get a mention, but they will suffer second season-syndrome and I think will be in bottom half this time around. Villa at 12/1 – good odds IMO. When you consider that in the second half of last season I think we finished 8th in terms of form and were 5th for March and April. So finishing 7th is not out of the question. As Betfair quite rightly say, we are traditionally a 7th place team.
The top 6 are listed as ManU, ManC, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Pool. I do not agree that Spurs and Pool are top 6, Pool are on the slide and Spurs are inconsistent. Glad I’ve got that off my chest.

Liverpool and Suarez, Spurs and Bale. If they lose their key players they could be in a spot of bother.

They will replace like for like. With Liverpool they’ve still got Sturbridge who scores for fun and tbf they looked better without Suarez in last few games. Should imagine spurs will spend most of bale money on 2-3 quality players so both teams Shoukd be ok.

I think apart from the 6 teams mentioned 7th is there for the taking. I’d love us to finish top 7 but i think top 10 would be more realistic but whatever happens i’m extremely confident we’ll finish higher than the 14th we finished ladt season.

Off topic….I don’t know if anyone on here plays Sky sports or The Sun fantasy football but if anyone is interested I’ll set up a mini league? Obviously it’ll only be for fun but it could add to the banter. Like I say if anyone is interested I’ll set up a mini league.

It’s a nice thought, but I just don’t see us getting anywhere near 7th.

It’s not meant to be a downer post, but I’m concentrating on facts.
And when you look at who we actually beat since christmas, I’m just not convinced.

That said, if I could get those odds for finishing top 12, I’d probably snap their hands off.

More chance of 7th from bottom than top I’m afraid. Though if we get a decent centre half in then maybe top 10

Well we have to play those same teams, or there promoted equivalent, so those results are definitely possible, as is turning the draws into wins. Then we have to set about Liverpool again, push Everton just a bit harder, tighten up the defence say 20% and voila, 7th beckons.

I like your logic Streetly and it’s a good article.
Go on then, I’ll push the height of my ambition for this season to 10th 🙂

That’d actually do me quite nicely, with a bunch of cheap kids, tbh.

iam quietly confident, while iam not brave enough 2 predict a place in the top ten, only cos i av a knack of bringing bad luck see iam cursed but if we continue as we finished and the new additions add 2 wot was already starting 2 mold into a force ~ i can see a very exciting new era, and the style in which lamberts teams play bring goals and excitement we are in 4 a treat
