lol .. sorry lads i have not been on here much the last month or so, I am in the middle of a move to Ireland from Canada.

I have missed a few games but seen the highlights, I just skimmed the headlines and the topics posted.

So I had a bit of time to look tonight and i see an argument to sack Lambert and replace him with Tony pulis who is currently employed by crystal palace since november.

and apparently it would be an exercise of childishness and tantamount to tantrum throwing …..not to want Pulis as the new Villa manager!

it appears a lot can change in 3/4 weeks!

Daily mail reporting Lerner wanting to sell interest from Russian and USA. USA interest from Texas where Villas pre-season tour is. Hope this is correct. Lerner out

Why Russian? I don’t honestly care where they come from. Just because another bunch of American’s want Villa doesn’t mean they’ll be like Lerner is now, who needless to say isn’t liked for having to go the business style way instead of the fan-wanted style way. America’s knowledge of the sport has vastly grown, despite clear claims “yankees” don’t know much about it.

Yes it will be better than Lerner but how many american owners have done well. Even utd can’t compete like they used with the glazers. Liverpool have done well but there was a decent base of players before they come and tbh they will win the league but won’t be as good next season. A flash in the pan. Arsenal can’t win fuck all with Stan kronke either. Yes we will be better of and yes any new owner will be welcome with open arms by me. But I just don’t think Americans get it. I know it’s come on a lot over there but it’s still only their 4th or 5th biggest sport and always will be. The reason is USA tv companies can’t accept the concept of going 45 mins without showing as advert. Russia would be a lot better or Saudis of course. Look at city and Chelsea. They will out spend Americans anyday and let’s be honest this squad needs to be rebuilt from the bottom up and at least £150-200m needs to be spent on players so we can compete with sky 4. And even that amount won’t guarantee anything.

Liverpool, Roma have US owners and they’re looking really, really good. There’s really 1 really well known Russian owner and he’s a crazy guy who’d sack you for looking the wrong way, and I’d hate that. At least Roma and Liverpool and even Lerner are willing to give a manager time if the fans are okay with them. Personally why I prefer an American to a Saudi or Russian owner because Americans will give someone time and any billionaire can give a man money, they could be a Bulgarian, Australian, Colombian, Nigerian, doesn’t matter.

It does fascinate me that normally any manager touted has to have EPL experience. I’ve always liked Pulis, yes Stoke were boring, and he rarely bought “good” players, but he always got the best out of them and his man management more or less saves his job because they do so well and are organized. But enough of this “Pulis in, Allardyce in, so much better than Lambert.” We need fresh ideas, no one in the EPL as a manager that we can attract (basically meaning any of the top 7ish managers bar Sherwood) are coming, and none of the others are really… “entertaining”. Those managers are the last ones to have fresh ideas, but they get the results they need due to dull but affective football, much like O’Neill did. We need someone different as EPL based management has failed massively. Houllier looked great when all the injured players came back (had 15 at once if I remember correctly) and had some good players for once lined up. We need that, not this.

You’re right and I like Pulis, and to be fair they’re much more entertaining since Pulis came in, despite their former manager using attacking football at Blackpool and Pulis being defensive at Stoke, they’ve switched. But I wouldn’t want Pulis now and for like 2 seasons and then get someone in for a while. I’d want that person now, because Pulis will want his own players, own training and it could deter things. Plus who knows if Pulis could do that well with this team.

Nzonzi is very under rated, he also signed the defence which was one of the toughest to beat. Some of his signings have been woeful like Jerome. Pulis signs a player to do a job and most of the time they do it.

Palace dont look to bad some very exciting players like Bolassie and Puncheon. Puncheon was MOTM for me las t season in both matches against the saints, a lot of people dont like him but he is a handful in a free role

Pulis is far more entertaining at Palace, attacking does do that though. He has signed some exciting players, but I don’t know if I would really want Pulis here. I mean I get it, anyone better than Lambert, but is Pulis that long term guy you want?

If lerner stays i think he is the only man for the job at this present time. Three years of Pulis would steady us, its been an awful few years at Villa. Pulis is a very clever manager, took Stoke all the way and turned a bunch of nobody strugglers into the team nobody wants to play

It really depends though. Pulis left Stoke due to funds, while we will spend more than Stoke or Crystal Palace, I still don’t know if I’d want Pulis here.

Pulis is manager of the season. He would be a manager who is experienced enough to to tale Villa up from the level we find ourselves in but i cant see him taking us beyond 8th and that is at a push. He would have ever steady the ship for a couple of seasons for someone to then push the club on. My only problem with Pulis is the fact he signed Cameron Jerome a useless player in my eyes

Not really, we can realistically stay up losing our remaining games 10-0 each as Fulham and Cardiff aren’t winning 2 of their remaining 4 and Sunderland aren’t winning 3 of their remaining 5. Nor do I see Norwich winning 1 more.

Not really a big IF at all if we stay up.

We have to lose all 5 games:
Swansea have to draw 1 in 4
West Bromich have to draw 1 in 4 and take 0 big beatings.
Norwich have to win one of their last 4 games
Fulham have to win 2 of their last 4 games
Cardiff have to win 2 of their last 4 games
Sunderland have to win 3 of their last 5 games.

While we’re not technically safe, 4 of those 6 teams have to pull off that, and we lose all 5 games, for us to go down.

We won’t go down Andrew. Don’t forget the fixtures Norwich have. For starters they will get mullered on sun by Liverpool then they’ve got arsenal utd etc.

        Andrew April 18, 2014 at 12:31 am . Reply

Exactly. 4 of those teams won’t do what they have to do to stay up and us to go down. Bottom 3 winning 2 games, 2 games and 3 games in 4, 4 and 5 games respectively isn’t happening. Norwich probably won’t win another game. And I can see us getting maybe 1 win, or a couple draws.

I has been known for some while that Lerner, having failed to do an Abramovich, is not interested in retaining his English Soccer team. The stakes have changed and he has not got the money to compete with the five teams jousting for 4 champions league places.

What seems to have changed today is the mainstream press risking their credibility to tout the rumours of a take-over. When you get the Telegraph and Guardian running the story it has to have some substance, even if it is information fed to them by Lerner himself.

Likewise the news that the fans are calling for Lambert’s head. Read this blog and you will know the cross section of writers have been of that persuasion since the new year, but it seems a switch was flicked at Palace and all the hacks are on Lambert’s case – suddenly. Probably because Faulkner has said Lerner is concerned about it.

Put the two stories together and you get Lerner calling Lambert to say his arranged sale is in jeopardy because the buyers will walk away if Villa drop. Therefore Lambert needs a couple of sacrificial goats, because he cannot sign new players, and has to grab the initiative and convince the players of a regime change. Hence the suspensions to bolster the mood at BH. Behind that all the players will know if there are new owners all their contracts are at risk of termination. Both story lines smell of being ruses to fire up the home dressing room – but for all that they may still be true.

Good points OLL. After giving this some thought the only thing that would make fans happy is if Lerner sold. Is it possible this could just be another publicity stunt so everyone d rushes to buy STs thinking we will spend tens of millions next season. Also reading between the lines lambert seems to think he will be here with more money next season. Surely the first thing a new owner worth billions would do is get rid of lambert. He is useless and not a big enough name. Unless of course their ambition is about the same as Lerner.

Don’t want to get carried away by the takeover rumours but finally a little glimmer maybe in this dark hole we’ve been stuck in for years.
If we were to get new owners, Lamberk would surely be gone (cause for mass celebration alone) and with money behind them we could finally start to look at some up and coming managers across Europe, so we can stop debating limited crap British managers like Pulis and Lamberk (although Pulis’ limited football actually yields results).

‘IF’ the takeover rumours are true it is dependant upon on Villa remaining in the prem.
£200 million pounds is being banded around.
Then why run the gauntlet. We should have spent £10 – £20 million in January to help stay up.
If we go down Lerner gets sod all but more debt.
I think there are a few storys coming out now to improve the atmosphere tomorrow – thats all.

pulis for aston villa, now i really do believe villa fans are crazy. don’t get me wrong pulis is a manager that could do well for villa. but on the other hand, how long would it take for our faithful to get bored of the style.

pulis may be playing different stuff currently at stoke. but this is only temporary most of them players, are not his signed by holloway. but soon as pulis gets his players in. you will see a more stoke like performances, less and less flair.

this post is a joke, aston villa if they decided to shoot lambert, should look to steve mCclaron or another coach style manager. pulis would only be a temporary fix until the faithful or unfaithful got bored with the long ball. long throw ins . your moaning now with the style which lambert is FORCED to play cos of players lacking premier class. pulis played this by choice for years in premier and championship, this must av been a late april fools day u got me hehehhhe
