Under Lamberk I dreamed of attacking football, and if we lose we wanted to lose with a bit of a fight. We now have some passion back in the team and Manager…. I still think there are more twists and turns to come before we are safe but at last Mr Sherwood has given us something to believe in.

Same here Bum Bum, I’m back to looking forward in our games, on Sherwood’s states we would be looking at top end of the league by now.How ever Lambert wasn’t found out in his lack of knowledge of football I’ll never understand, I would think it will be a long time before any owner would look at him for a club.roll on Sunday I say

Tim inspires confidence in me, the team and the crowd. Wouldnt be surprised if we go undefeated in the remaining 5 games.

As you say Adam, the increase in goalscoring since his arrival is spectacular.

I fear NOBODY, did you hear me? NOBODY!

It would be really cool if QPR were docked 3 points for their crowd behaviour yesterday!

Langford, I also have a daft feeling that we could go undefeated (in the league) to the end of the season but hey ho wins at home would do for me.

Agree with the comment that players seem to be enjoying the game again – non more so than Cleverley. Remember Grealish’s tweet – probably reflected the view of more than a few players at the time.

H60…yes, home wins….I can just about remember them. Especially the one where you namesake scored 5 (well I think it was 5) against Charlton Athletic (who then became Charlton Pathetic) when we smashed them 11 – 1 at VP. Its rather odd to think we took about 6 months this season to score that many……Its a funny old game 🙂

Just looked it up and GH did indeed score 5….just before I started going to VP……perhaps I’m a glory hunter lol. I bet Bill Pearson was there!

The rumour is that the Manager at the time (Joe Mercer) ordered him not to score a sixth because the club couldnt afford to give him 2 match balls 🙂

There is a quote from oohah after the game ‘its only Charlton FFS, we are just papering over the cracks, He’ll be sold in the next transfer window’ 🙂

I had the privilege to have met him later at the end of his playing days, I think he had a health problem and went into owning a large outlet store.

My first game was in 1960 against Blackpool. GH scored two cracking first half headers but Blackpool with Sir Stanley Matthews playing got two in the second half. Taken by my uncle who blamed me for the loss of a point and said he would never take me again LOL. As he got older I ended up taking him to games 🙂

Met Sir Stanley many years later at a Port Vale cup game (against ManC City I think) – what a gentleman and what a privilege.

Charlie Aitken was in the Trinity restaurant doing VIP hospitality last season, and looking quite fit, I do not know if his health has deteriorated since. I’d just like to ask Bill to check- Charlie was a left back not right back as far as I recall, sort of thing I should remember correctly because I was #3 also.

I reckon this could be an unusual season in that clubs will stay up on points totals that would have seen them go down in previous years and just one more win might do it.

However I’m really hoping that we get the clean sheet habit and keep it as tight to the final second in the next 5 games as they did against Spurs. If they manage that then I think they might get 40+

The relegation battle is going to be really fascinating and my only hope is that we’ll be looking on from the sidelines!

I think that Lambert totally lost his way at Villa, he seemed a pale shadow of the man who most of us welcomed with open arms. I think Bill that he will find work again quite quickly, the work he did ay Wycombe, Colchester and especially Norwich were, in my opinion outstanding and should not be forgotten. I lost faith in him after the Bradford debacle though, and would’ve sacked him then. Anybody coming in and playing attacking football would’ve been a breath of fresh air to be fair, some performances under Sherwood have been poor and some very good, I’m certainly feeling more optimistic and expect us to get 38 pts by end of season. Would be very happy if Tim could get Chris Ramsey on board for next season, not at all sure about Kev Macdonald.

Why would Lerner pay £30m to finish a few places higher in the league when lamberk has proved we only need to spend £10m to stay up. Think about it logically if it was your money you would do the same sit bk and watch sky money roll in.

Changing tack a bit. Watching Liverpool v the barcodes tonight. Liverpool looked excellent going forward in the first half, but rubbish at the back. If we get at them we will certainly cause problems. Lovren is a liability, as is Johnson (not sure why he is in the team – resting players or injuries?).

We need to have a good go and I’m sure Sherwood will be pushing that.

As for the thread….I had accepted relegation under Lambert as I could see no way things were going to improve. We have our weaknesses, and injuries are playing their part, but the change in approach is what we all have been asking for. We can all forgive falling short if we at least have a proper go at it.

Obviously we would be more open to concede as Sinclair and grealish don’t defend that much but it’s a semi final lets go for it. They wouldn’t expect that and it puts the message out that we are up for it.

I drove a round trip of 120 miles from my Herefordshire home that night still suffering the effects of gastro enteritis, then got stuck in the snow on the way back and didn’t get home till 2.30 am. Found it hard to forgive Lambert after that, just thought it fair to point out that he had done a very good job at previous clubs, and may do again.

Basically Lambert became a miserable barsteward when he couldn’t get the results and I honestly think it seriously affected the players.

Sherwood came in and reminded each player what to do. That and the optimistic attitude, mellowed with realism, got the players meshing again. I always knew we had the talent.

A change of gaffer always some kind of reinvigorating effect and TS got it just about right. Let’s pray that it is not temporary and that he can build on it. Bring back Gary Gardener for example.

Just did some quick stats. We’ve got 10 points from the 8 PL games so far under TS. We lost 2 games early on we might have at least drawn however even with this ratio of 1.25 points per game over a season that would give us 41 points in a season so comfortably above any relegation worries.

I personally think that TS will better this ratio when he has more experience of working in the club and hopefully some new players. Don’t forget that without spending a penny we’ll have Kozak and Bent back soon. I’d love to see Kozak team up with Benteke and could we have a better super-sub than Bent?

If we can get a creative midfielder (any chance of Milner coming back?) then I think we can do a hell of a lot better.

If we do end up in mid-table mediocrity next season anyone who moans will have their Lambert-era posts re-published just to remind them that thing could (and have been) a hell of a lot worse.

Personally hoping that QPR goes down so that Ramsey might be free to join TS. I’ve heard he’s a good tactician so tactics + motivation = wins

Bent has to sign a new contract to stay on before we can claim he’s back. Having Kozak back would be huge though. Seems we’re interested in bringing in a striker if we really are scouting Bamford and Baston.

I’d take mid-table mediocrity next season. Hell, we hit the 40 point mark by now, we’d be 12th, 3 points off 9th, 7 points off 7th. Wouldn’t be surprised if we hit that mark.

Tim Sherwood has impressed most in front of the camera. It isn’t difficult to improve on Lambert TBH, just speaking clearly in English would do it. But he has been frank and honest about his team’s performances and generous where needed (Old Trafford) to say we were well beaten by a better team on the day. Something Ferguson never did.

Tim was also respectful and thankful for his Tottenham career opportunities when interviewed after the win. This in complete contrast to Spurs Chairman, Manager and programme editor. It must have been deliberate: they gave him one name check where it had to be listed, and not a single archive photo. This is pathetic, small-minded and rank bad manners.

If you want to know why some clubs are respected for their good manners towards visitors, Arsenal, Everton, Villa and West Ham for example and some of the EPL not. This incident explains it. A distinguished former player, or former manager however ultimately unsuccessful, would always be acknowledged and have current and/or archive photos published in the programme when returning to any of the four clubs mentioned. Tottenham are shamed by their boorishness – they can suck on the score.

      Totally agree OLL.
      Some clubs have class.
      And some just don’t.

In Spurs case, having read around a few Spurs sites and trying to gauge what their fans think (in between the extremes), well, I think quite a few of them think they might have made a mistake in getting rid of Sherwood so quickly.

Of course, it’s early days yet.

Pochettino might seem the better manager, but the fact is, he’s achieved no more than Spurs did last season, really.

If Spurs don’t buck up they’ll end up doing quite a bit worse. They had 2 more points at exactly the same time last season and ended with 13 more from the last six games.

Can’t see Spuds doing that the way they’re playing so points total at the end of the season is likely to be a lot lower. See the Spuds fans howl then…I’ll be loving that!

Sherwood has been pictured at Swindon v Rochdale and seems Swindon fans believe Luongo will be a Villa player in the summer.

Talented 22 year old midfielder. Former Spurs player, highly rated. Swindon fans rate him incredibly highly. Supposedly really good.
