No way can I see him (Benteke) going in the Jan window what would be the gain for Villa? He showcases himself at the world cup, has a good tournament (who knows wins the golden boot?) and his value goes through the roof.
He has a piss poor world cup Villa decide to part company with him come the summer, he’s still worth £35m.
    It’s a no brainer.

On a side note, England are sooo average.

    And more importantly, Carruthers and Grealish got a goal apiece in the Irish U21 game;

Were being linked with zaha on loan now in jan from utd Ffs. I’m sure the unambitious posters on this site will be creaming themselves that we can have a utd player to make his fuck ups with us then goes back to OT after we have gone him and utd a favour. We act like a fuckin minnow club

I’m not sure about England it was a friendly and we were under strength means nothing really. A lot of players didn’t seem bothered and whenever we go into a tournament expecting to lose we end up doing really well remember euro 96. We were panned in the press and unlucky not to win it

Well hopefully it won’t but it has gathered pace but taking on loan signings just underlines how much of a small club we are now.

You really haven’t learned much have you? So are clubs like Napoli, Juventus, Milan, Inter, Roma small clubs for taking on loans? Is Liverpool a small club for taking on Moses, despite having no clause in the loan contract to sign him? No, no they’re not. Taking on loans doesn’t make us a small club and of course it’s gathering pace, we all know Zaha’s going on loan in January, we also know we’re not the only club linked with him, so making random claims that we’re interested doesn’t mean it’s true.

Tekkers is always going to be linked with any CL club while he’s at Villa I’m expecting a lot more of this bollocks over the next week during the break a slow time for prem news.
so what about Dempsey for a few months on loan, Keene was a great move for us before and Dempsey will be looking to impress over world cup season. if its a disaster we’ve lost nothing.

Lol I guess so but if we lost 10.0 to small Heath in a friendly we would just say it means nothing. It’s the competitive matches that count if we lose to then next week it means nothing if we end up beating them in Brazil

Not a big fan of loan signings. Really wish we would take a serious look at the likes of Milner, Lescott, etc in Jan, even if it means spending a lot more than we had planned to. Maybe these players would take a big hit in wages to pick up a new 3/4 year contract? You never know.

      Badger123 November 16, 2013 at 8:12 pm . Reply

I don’t think I’d want either on a 3-4 year contract, as that was just the mistake we made with Given.
      Too old, imo.

I want us to look more nearer the 27ish age, where they’re more proven.
It’s really not that much to ask, imo.

A sort of inbetweeny if you see what I mean.

I’m just sick of 100% unproven players, as I think it will get us nowhere fast.

        Andrew November 16, 2013 at 8:22 pm . Reply

That would depend on what you mean by unproven, just because some fans don’t know who they are, doesn’t make them unproven. Milner is only 27 by the way. Although I fully agree on players like Lescott. Very, very few EPL based players we should look at to sign for 3-4 years at any age 26+ that would come to Villa.

Fair play Andrew, I should have qualified myself.
I mean unproven in the Prem.
Yes, you can make the step up from other leagues, but I just want a couple who have already proven they can do it.
And yes, foreign players can be successful: but the majority aren’t, I’d suggest.

My mistake about Milner, I thought he was nearer 29.
Even then, I wouldn’t want him.
Having done it in my job, I’m now a firm believer in the saying “never go back”.
Great player, but it’s never the same, the second time.

It isn’t, but he’d still be by far our best midfielder technically, tactically, leadership-wise. An upgrade in just about every way to anyone we have still, as sad as that might be, maybe other than Bacuna who I do think could become our own Milner (said he wanted to be our Lampard when he joined so if he could become as good as Milner was, let alone Lampard, be brilliant).

But I tend to agree, although he can occasionally add something different through the middle, with a bloody good run/pass.

Milner in the middle with Delph would be great. I really like Lescott too, and dont think that would be a risk on lets say a 3yr deal. I know botht of these are unlikely, but they would be great additions for us.

Benno, yes Milner might work well with Delph.

I wouldn’t spend 20M on Milner.. no way.. i am sure for that much money and wages there are far better players out there..

For 8-10M i would consider bringing him back BUt we don’t know how much being in and out of the team the last few seasons will have affected him..

Lescott i wanted in Jan.. but with Vlaar playing well now and Baker/Clark looking good too i wouldn’t want him in Jan.. IF we go for an experienced player in Jan it has to be a midfielder IMO..

Injury after injury it seems for Gardner. Quite a worry at a young age, could go the way of Wilshere, quite poor since, or Ramsey, a monster.
