Sunday avvy roundup

I’m bored. The same as I usually am in the closed season weekends.

I could go and sit out in the sun, but even that’s decided it’s not playing today, after it’s been blistering all week while I was at work in what was basically a greenhouse. Just typical and about sums up my luck.

So we might as well do a quick round up then.

Caughtoffside (via goal.com) have come out with a story that continues the Benteke theme, but talks in the past tense as though it’s fact, compared to what was previously speculation;

“Tottenham spent days locked in discussions with Aston Villa about signing the prolific striker, who scored 19 league goals for Villa last season, keeping the club in the Premier League.

Spurs were willing to pay £20 million plus add-ons for Benteke but Villa refused to budge on their £25 million valuation of the striker and when Tottenham pulled out of the race to sign the striker, Benteke had to sign a new contract with Villa, thought to be worth £40,000 a week.”

Tottenham Missed Out On Christan Benteke After Failing to Meet Aston Villa Deadline

It still makes me smile, this, as I’m sure Levy with his usual arrogance was convinced it was in the bag.

Or was it all a big conspiracy type PR stunt, as has been suggested on some Villa blogs?

Nah, not for me. I don’t see anyone at the club who has the brains for it. And I’m a massive believer of the conspiracist theory.

Also, why did Benteke HAVE to sign a new contract?

Answer?  he didn’t, simple. Unless he’s been verbally promised that he can go at the end of the upcoming season.

Pretty much a none-story then, in my opinion.

Next up is the Sunday Mirror’s story that  Aston Villa are trailing Serbian midfielder Zdravko Kuzmanovic, along with Sunderland.

He apparently has a £3.5 mill release clause.

I’m not convinced there’s any truth in this whatsoever myself, but you never know.

And then we have the sad story of how the booze has really got a grip of God (aka Paul McGrath)

He said: “I don’t drink normally, even if I could just sit in my room, drink slowly and watch TV, but I don’t.

“It’s a case of filling a glass up with vodka and trying to get out of your skull as quickly as possible. I don’t know what that’s all about really to be honest. I haven’t figured it out

Massive shame that.

I love a pint as much as the next man, but it doesn’t rule my life, although I suspect work has a lot to do with that.

I don’t think that Aston Villa will be signing any more players. I just don’t see the need.

I’d rather have Lambert focus on departures. Obviously if Aston Villa struggle in August, Lambert will sign a few more players.

Bacuna has done well so far, provided already 2 assists. That’s why I don’t think we need more midfielders

One more signing will do it for me. I would love to see kiyotake join us, although it certainly looks dead and buried. If not someone of that ilk, real flair player, an assist machine who can pop up with a few goals from midfield. Maybe we already have that man in tonev or bacuna matata.

Looking at our pre season so far it seems we’re still shipping silly goals which, even though these games dont mean a lot in context of the up coming season, is a little worrying, so i guess you could say im now firmly in the one more experienced CB camp.
