Stoke – Villa; Another shoeing? and a POLL

After the debacle that was the Liverpool game, it’s yet again difficult to see us getting much against Stoke isn’t it?
Confidence is probably rock bottom right now and Remi Garde has commented on how he’s finding it difficult to get some of the players “up” for it and feeling committed.
These were comments that stunned me, as that’s about as close as you can get to admitting we’ve absolutely no chance of stopping up with this overall gutless bunch of mugs we have representing the club. They’ve given up already.
So it’s easy to just write this one off as another loss and we aren’t going to get another point all season.

But we all know footy doesn’t quite work like that and there are still points to be had, however unlikely they might seem.

The big question for me, is do the players have any pride and will they want to try to put the last game behind them?
I’d like to think yes and certainly hope so.
If they don’t at least run their socks off in this game, we as fans might as well give up too.
It’s not that I think we can survive now: it’s more that I want us to go down at least trying our best.
Anything less and I think I’ll be joining the call to get the kids in too.

Ok, that’s enough of trying to put a positive slant on things. I can’t keep the pretence up (and it was a genuine attempt, but there’s nothing to say).

The facts are Remi Garde has basically said the quality isn’t there, the squad isn’t deep enough and even though I’ve read news articles that suggest that he might look to put a kid or two in, he doesn’t think they’re good enough either;

“To run a football team if you have no competition within the team and within the squad it’s not the best thing.

Some of them could be [taking their places for granted]. This is not healthy for the squad and for the team.

But I’m not sure that I saw enough quality among the reserve team to put a player in a very difficult situation in Aston Villa’s first team at the moment.”

So there’s nothing to suggest that he won’t start pretty much the same line-up that he did against Liverpool.
Which is a shocking state of affairs, when a supposedly big Premier league club has no alternatives it can call on.
This is what you’ve overseen Randy. Thanks for that.

I see Gestede is in the running again and will probably get some minutes, which would normally be great, having a big fella back in to mix it with Stoke’s defence. But I think he epitomises the whole side in that he can’t rough things up and get amongst it, so will probably prove as ineffective as usual.

I’m not even going to talk about Stoke’s side or tactics, as it doesn’t matter.
It’s all about if we have the minerals to put a decent fight up.
And sadly, I don’t think we do.

I can’t see past a couple of goals loss, with our midfield being totally dominated, our attack offering nothing and the defence, well I’m not even going there, yet again.
But at the same time, I don’t see us getting thrashed either. Stoke won’t need to go all out.

God, we really are rubbish aren’t we?

I can’t see the poll saying much different.

No commitment or passion on the pitch only reflects the absolute mess and lack of leadership at board level. The players know that Randy and his band of losers ( substitute tossers if you wish) are only interested in maximising income and minimising costs. The sad bit is they seem to think that football is an irrelevant nuisance in this grand economic plan!

Players at the end of the day are no different to employees in any business and if the vibes throughout that business are negative and lacking leadership then the employee just takes the piss.

As much as I hate the idea that the players are just resigned to their fate, I do have some sympathy for them. In many ways they are only reflecting the way the majority of fans now feel – resignation to a fate that lies in the hands of one man and those to whom he’s entrusted our club.

Unless Lerner and the idiots he’s appointed go then expect more of the same next season.

I couldnt quite believe my eyes when I saw the line up today. Basically the same team that folded against Liverpool. How could he not make any changes? Bacuna…Westwood…still playing…Lescott captain?

Bar a 10 minute cameo from Sinclair, we never threatened them at all. Sinclair and Gana were the only players that really turned up today, the rest just went through the motions. I think Bacuna gave the ball away 100% of the time for the first 30 mins, was incredible to watch.

I cant quite believe how bad we are, and for me Remi has not done anywhere near enough to keep his job next year.

I didn’t think we played that badly but it’s the case that we’ are simply a Shiite football team.
Watching us reminds me of seeing a lower league team against a premier league team in some cup competition, tidy but lose a goal and it’s all over.

I know this is a bit ‘conspiracy theory-ish’, but does anyone else get the impression that Garde was brought in with the notion that relegation was inevitable (we had no intention of spending in Jan) and he would do it quietly.

Nice guy, softly spoken, good credentials…just in a bad situation. Fans arent really blaming him, but quietly and with little fuss, he has taking us down.

Under this owner any manager is only signing on for one year. Nobody signs with the brief “We want you to manage us down to the National Conference.” But if it is the manager’s opinion he has only dross to work with, who will never have a winner’s mentality at any level, then until all the current squad are kicked out it cannot change.

I do not want to highlight a particular player because I think he is worse than all the rest, I am picking on Westwood to illustrate the thinking about him.

Westwood came through the Crewe academy. It is a club with a fine record for developing players. At Crewe’s level though it is possible to shine despite intrinsic weaknesses that will be found out in the EPL. Westwood has those weaknesses. He is not physically impressive enough to compete with the midfielders typically found in the EPL. Not heavy enough, not fast enough, lacking weight of shot and accuracy of long pass. When Villa got him it rang alarm bells, because those weaknesses cannot be eliminated with training, and match experience. Westwood is just a lower league player.

For as long as Westwood is in our manager’s plans we must be headed down to where Crewe are now. He has survived 3 managers and counting.

Don’t take this personally BWS but Westwood’s successful pass stats are the sort of s**t that our sports science director has on his computer. The league table does not have a points column for successful passes. Its columns record points for draws and wins. those are the stats that matter and if the Statto we employ would only watch the f***ing game he would know those passes must be going nowhere useful.

The day after another shambles and I have had a change of mind. The tea ladies and the ball boys can keep their jobs but all the rest still have to go. (NB Irony is intended here for those who can’t recognise it).

I think that there’s something in this theory of Remi being appointed to quietly let us slip into the netherworld of the Championship but I think it’s more cock up than conspiracy.

He took the job and then found out that he lied too and I think he’s just doing the minimum possible before he flees B6 in May. In a way I can’t blame him.

It must be something along these lines, why else would he keep picking the same useless spineless bunch of losers?

Another 11 games to go, roll on May 16th

I think its pretty obvious now what Garde thinks about these players- he hates them and rightfully so. In order for us to even compete in the championship, the squad must be ripped up and dismantled completely, and I do mean completely. However, as the board refuse to back the manager they appointed, I’m sure Remi will walk. Instead, we’ll end up with some crappy championship level manager to reflect our status, and the losers like Gabby, Westwood, Richards, etc will still be here. If that scenario plays out as I expect, I certainly wouldn’t rule out another relegation battle.

I hate to say it one poster was bang on in his comments, I even had a go back at him saying your only doing it to get a reaction? Oohah you was right from the start and mate, I think you should be given free seats at Villa, joke) , Garde another manager that’s walked into the spider’s web of deception, and I don’t think he has the knowledge of the game to get us back. There is no chance of that Steve, commercial sales are up so Fox is doing his job perfectly in Lerners eyes, as Hitchens said earlier, football and its results are just a distraction to Lerner now, which is why he is not interested in attending games…Its all about his precious bottom line, if we can make a large profit being mid table in the Championship, expect us to stay there for a long time.. !

I agree with Billy Boots in that Remi is culpable too. Stating that the 1st team doesn’t have quality is one thing but saying the under 21’s aren’t ready or capable is disingenuous. LVG & Man Utd are under pressure but he takes a calculated risk and throws in an 18 year old and what a gamble it’s proved to be. Since Remi’s joined we haven’t defended better, attacked better or shown more commitment. I understand that the malaise stems from the top down but I don’t see Remi as part of the solution, although I give his dues on his candour about the club’s issues.

But obviously you don’t because whoever the manager is is an irrelevance, Garde, Lambert, McLeish it makes not a jot of difference.
How they defend attack is neither here nor there cause from one to twenty two they’re all way below standard and not to put to fine a point on it, well you can’t polish a turd.
Stop blaming manager after manager and face the issue at hand… LERNER!
