Spurs – Villa Preview; Can Sherwood turn the spuds over?

Spurs Villa

So it’s another big game, with it all being about Sherwood meeting his old club, Spurs.
Fortunately, it’s not a six pointer in the way the QPR game was and let’s face it, I’ll bet most of us are fairly glad about that, as the stress levels were certainly way higher than I like.

It’s obviously still an important game though, as we continue the search for the points that will keep us up; it just doesn’t have the same expectancy levels.

I’d personally be very happy if we were to take a point from this match but Spurs play a fairly open game, which might not suit us. This was demonstrated against QPR, where we can leave ourselves too open, which means our currently dodgy defence is prone to conceding far too easily.

I foresee goals and am going for 3+ overall. It’s been a long time since I thought that.

Plus points?
Benteke being on fire is the obvious one (and no, I don’t think he’s playing himself into the shop window; he’s just getting better service).

Minus points?
It still looks like we might have to play a somewhat makeshift defence if Cissokho doesn’t make it (see below).

Which leads us onto team news.

Hutton, Westwood and Sinclair are out.
Gil has supposedly suffered a dead leg and I’m not sure what to think about that, given the rumour that he was seen driving away from VP well before the game, having not been picked the other night.
It would appear Kozak isn’t considered fit enough just yet.
But the good news is Cissokho might be back after training all week.

As for Spurs, Kyle Walker and Hugo Lloris are both injured and Vertonghen (along with a few others) is doubtful, as it seems there is a bit of a virus going around the club.
Let’s hope loads of them get it eh?

You can possibly keep up to date here, as things will probably change.

So what to think?
I can see a good game and it really depends which Spurs team turn up, as they can be up and down.
I suppose you could say the same for us though.

It’ll be interesting to see how Sherwood approaches this, as I’m wondering if he’ll give his former club a bit too much respect, a la Man Utd, or just go for it like the QPR game?

As I said, I’m going for 3+ goals and am going to predict 2-1 to Spurs, with them just having too much for us.

I’m hoping for the draw, as I think that’s our best bet.

But one thing I bet I’ll get right is that whatever happens, it won’t be boring.
And I don’t like boring, so that’s fine with me.

Now hopefully we can stop seeing people claim ” I don’t know where the next points are coming from”… All of our games as I said are winnable bar City at the Etihad.

No only did Benteke score but they held out and from what I’ve heard it wasn’t a lucky win either.

Pressure off, fancy 3 points at Man City???

Why do you always have to be negative, should have beat qpr, beat spuds, beat WBA twice, creating chances unlike under lamberk, playing with more passion, come on villa, thing sherwood is great for the club, positive with a bit of cockiness thrown in

    SSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Sherwood has no Tactical nous to see the game out, Sherwood won’t get 3 more points this season, I’d take a draw cause we’ll need another couple to get anything out of the game, Kane will piss all over our defense

Just some of the comments the insane old gits posted regarding our game against Tottenham. I don’t expect them to give credit where it’s due, that’d mean swallowing there pride.

Looks like you were both wrong….AGAIN!

    Enjoy the humble pie. 🙂

Even lamberk pulled off some good results means nothing. He also had the advantage of knowing how they play and what strengths and weakness are etc.

Yes but one result against a spuds team on their holidays with nothing to play for dosnt mean Sherwood is a good manager. We played them at the right time take Kane out that team and they arnt a great deal better than us tbh

I can’t take you seriously ooh-ahh, this is just click bait, comment bait, take the most obviously controversial stance going overtime and watch the comments flow, and its 180 degrees from the previous stance .. its just gibberish, Lads can we get some genuine debate opinion or insight instead? someone who actually believes in what they posting?

The faux controversy now for the sake of it is getting on my tits … we have appointed 5 permanent and 3 interim managers in the last 9 years, its easy to see the pattern

Sherwood last six league games = 10 points
Lambert final six league games = 1 point

Get a grip all those Sherwood haters. We would be sitting bottom of league now with a big R beside our name if Lambert had stayed.

Sherwood has instilled a belief in the players that they can beat anybody. Won’t always happen but there is a belief in this team that has been missing for years. Seems it will take a lot more effort for him to instill that belief in some of the fans.

Whisper it quietly as I don’t want Randy to here it, but with the current squad and a full season under Sherwood we would be challenging in the top half of the table.

He is far from perfect but who’s better out there. Pulis ! Lol !
