Spurs 3- 0 Villa; Just shocking!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
…to the Exit? You’d hope so.

I feel ashamed today.

This was a game where you would have hoped we would have been able to play with the shackles off, wasn’t it?
So what happened?
We started out with pretty much the same line-up that has failed us all season, that’s what.
And as expected, they failed us again.

So what to say about the actual game?
We looked devoid of any heart or desire.
It was shots-in early on in the game and when they got their first, you just knew what was going to come.
While I don’t think we sat back too much (certainly not as much as against Man City), was that supposedly us going for it?
You would hope not, given that our midfield were totally outclassed and created nothing yet again.
Delph looked about the only Villa player on the pitch that looked remotely interested and he at least had a couple of efforts.

At half time, Lambert replaced Jordan Bowery, a player where I just don’t see it at all, with El Ahmedi.
That said it all for me, in that it was now about damage limitation.
Is that what we’re really down to these days? It would certainly appear so.

Another damming statistic that we’re quite used to recently, is that we never had an attempt on target until yet another effort from Delph.

Anyway, enough talking about that rubbish. So why do I feel ashamed?
Because of the fans that actually travelled and paid to watch that tripe.
They were superb today and if the team were half as good as the support, in the effort put in, they’d be seriously challenging.

I looked at one of the White Hart lane stands and there I saw the words “the game is about the Glory”.
You could have fooled me.

And then I looked at the shirt sponsors.
Spurs have HP, a world-wide brand.
While we have????? exactly. That shows the gulf that exists between us nowadays.

It’s just not good enough and why we need change.
Please Randy, make the announcement that you’ve sold.
Because anything else won’t be good enough either.

LAMBERT PINNED TO DUGOUT…………yes it looked to me as if he knew something about a coming statement. It was like the last game against Norwich 2 years ago……everyone knew the manager was going and it was a dreadful match…..

i just don’t think he knows whats going on, even if we dislike him as a manager and I do, if he doesn’t know what Lerner is about to say (if anything) its an absolute disgrace…. imagine working for a company when the owner won’t give you any tools to work with and keeps you in the dark whether he will be selling or not. Lerner is a disgrace !

Not hard to imagine at all, that happens every other day in every other job, only in football is the owner of a business supposed to share all his inner decisions with all his employees and his customers!
When a company is considering closing shop or lay offs- do they tell the affected employees first? …nope
if it is a disgrace well then we have only matched the disgrace of Man utd wth Moyes or any other club in the premier league who let their manager go without any pre warning.
Isn’t that what most fans want though?
I don’t think many on this forum care much about whether Lambert is being considered in the layoff process!

Disagree, fully believe Lambert knows what’s going on. His comments claiming this is his biggest achievement due to all the restraints is clearly a claim for a new job at any Premier League club, claiming he can keep them up under any supposed restraints. It’s either a plea to the new owner that given money, he can do far better, or to a new club he’s good enough to keep them up.

Maybe Lerner is going to make his announcement in a Bin Laden way. He’s prob already made a DVD and will instruct Faulkener to broadcast it if and when everything is signed and he’s officially sold the club and no longer has anything to do with it.

BADGER……Hpw shall I pay up this bet that you won (well done). Not sure how I can prove I’ve paid it?

I was just listening to Talk Sport and Andy Gray said Lerners statement was due about 3pm today. Alan Brazil then said he’d heard there was no sale. All hearsay of course but I thought I would mention it here. UTV

We could be on the market for years. The Barcodes were in the same position, went down, came back up and have stabilised. But Ashley at least understood you still had to have a decent budget or they’d have done a Wolves…Feel pig sick over this.

Here’s the full statement. Several weeks back I said that following the end of the season I would clarify my future role with the Club, and address what had become seemingly constant rumours of a sale. I have come to know well that fates are fickle in the business of English football. And I feel that I have pushed mine well past the limit. The last several seasons have been week in, week out battles and having now come through this last season unfortunately limping amidst very meaningful injuries and constant sale rumours, I feel further that now is the time for me to look for new ownership and thus new leadership. I have asked the world of Paul Lambert and Paul Faulkner and they have both delivered selflessly. On a personal level it is time for me, like the Shunammite, to dwell among my own and get on with other aspects of my career, following a sale.

Above all, the debt I owe Aston Villa whether as owner, Chairman, custodian or simply as a fan is to put the Club first. To make good on that debt, I owe it to Villa to move on, and look for fresh, invigorated leadership, if in my heart I feel I can no longer do the job.

During my time with Villa, I have tried to strengthen and improve the Club’s physical infrastructure both at Villa Park and Bodymoor Heath while also trying to carry on the McGregor tradition of being mindful of the local community we serve. Above all in this effort is the connection the Club has made with Acorns; the caring, kindness and warmth that players, staff, managers and supporters have shown to Mr Strudley and Acorns has wiped away all disappointments and sobered my finest memories. Still, I can see now that it is time, if possible, to hand these privileges and responsibilities to the next person or group to take the Club forward. I am appreciative of the support I have received, even in these last years of comparative struggle when criticism was due, and will look on with others – with fingers crossed, for stronger future performance appropriate to our size and heritage.

On a practical level, the Club will continue with its normal operations and plans for the summer. I’ve no doubt that the core staff at both Villa Park and BMH, to whom I owe a massive debt of friendship and loyalty, will continue to guide and protect the Club through this period of transition according to their collective sense of professional pride and long term service to Villa – the vast majority having preceded my tenure.

Finally, in light of the above, I have engaged Bank of America Merrill Lynch to advise on the sale of Aston Villa.

It says that club already sold is wide of the mark. It will probably be a restructuring job at best and he will still be here for years to come no one will pay £250m and he knows it

A dignified statement. I believe he’s left out the part where it should say ” I’ve been looking for a buyer for two years, can’t find one, so I’m making it public to keep the fans off my back”. The farewell doesn’t detract from the gross mis-management of the club sice he took over. Off the field there have been some nice touches. On the pitch and in the boardroom been calamitous.

I am pretty sure you don’t put something up for sale if you already have a buyer.
I think this is the worst possible news. We could be in limbo for a very long time.
Pelligrini said after yesterdays game that work starts for next season today whereas we could be without a plan for the foreseeable future. If Lerner can’t sell is he going to be bothered with investmant in the team. I doubt it.
PS if Lambert had anything about him he would fall on his sword. Ian Holloway at Palace did what was best for the club not his wallet when he quit.

I don’t think that there are any great surprises in that statement.

The word ‘fickle’ and repeated use of ‘debt’ is quite deliberate.

It’s a bloke who bought a toy and thought he could make it exciting, then realised that he was nowhere near the biggest boy in the playground and lost interest.

The club will be self-sufficient from here on in I would imagine, and I expect Lambert to have approximately £30m or so this Summer.

I will carry on supporting the Villa, as they are my club. I didn’t think of it as ‘giving money to Lerner’ when I renewed, and hope for the best one day.

Hasn’t it always been thus ?

A fairly dignified and honest statement. Is anyone shocked to hear that Lerner would quite happily have his money back and do one for the last couple of years, you hardly had to be prophetic see that.

Hopefully, if the club is attractive on the open market as many feel we are, we’ll be snapped up quickly. I won’t be holding my breath.

As for yesterday, great support and what a great set of fans the Villa have. As for the match, spineless, soulless and utterly below the standard that Villa players should meet as a minimum.

Will some be rats leaving a sinking ship, or will Lambert garner the resources available, buy well and make a much better effort next season ?

Either way, yes, I’ll be there. I don’t know what use a boycott of a bloke who has stated he wants to go does. If you’ve lost interest because it’s highly unlikely we can anything, just be honest with yourself.
