S’hampton 2-3 Villa; Get in!

What a result!
I’m quite simply buzzing my proverbials off, having watched that.
We had 3 chances on target and 23% of the possession, according to the stream I watched.
And we still came away with the win.
Go figure that one.

I’ll update this shortly, but this to me, has to be close to the steal of the century.
Totally chuffed to bits!

nothing ive seen yet giddy, I was wondering the same myself. lowton was not great last night but to be fair to him he is no centre back.
it seems that last season vlarr was settling in with a new team and a group of inexperienced youngsters to manage because this year he has looked like a dutch international and has been worthy of his ‘concrete’ ron tag.

me too, vlarrs form and our defence improvements are no coincidence im sure and we need that older head amongst the youngsters especially at the back.
clark has been much improved too this season just keeping it simple and being solid.

fair play to lambert dropping benteke, it needed to be done and bringing kozac off at 2-1 suggests to me it’ll be more of the same Saturday.
also re the possession stats, I think it was well played by lambert on this one, pochetino knows im sure like everyone else that we are a counter attacking side but failed to anticipate or cope with that.
reckon Fulham will be up for the 3pts and come at us which may play right into our hands. but don’t expect a walk over against them, they looked much improved against spurs last night although weak at the back, good news for us 🙂

NM isn’t it abit risky playing this counter attacking millarky when it doesn’t actual work at home for some unknown reason mate just wondered.

I think that we do need to rethink our home strategy, hopefully this unbeaten run will give the side the confidence to go at teams from the off.

We seem to hold the ball well at home, we just can’t make anything happen with teams that sit deep and invite a steady build up.

We’ve shown away that we’re the best counter attacking side in the league.

iam a firm believer in 442 against most teams at home, bacuna and tonev and Albrighton these 3 fight 2 supply the front 2.
kovak showed given the rite service, he will thrive, benteke will regain his form if hes given more chances
playing at home we need 2 attack more as a team unit, getting the crowd behind us like palace. I av seen on tv their home games and regardless of score they stay with their team like our away fans ~ if palace survive it will be down 2 their vocal home support

Great result, we seem to get our best results when countering we also seem to be playing better without Benteke in the team which is a concern. I hope he is not another player who believes his own hype as you are only as good as your recent games and well they have not been great.

So glad to see Delph on the scoresheet our most improved player in a long time, i had written him off until the turn of last year, scoring is something he has lacked and hopefully this will give him the boost he needs to become what i believe is a great player.

Seriously, people really shouldnt comment about the game if they didnt see it!

We did not play better without Benteke. We couldnt hold the ball up at all. Kozak was about to be hauled off before he scored…as he had done nothing (bar nearly giving a goal away) in 70 mins. It was a great cross by El-Ahmadi (who was also having a mare) for the goal and Kozak took it well.

Benteke and Weimann both looked lively when they came on and it wouldnt surprise me if they start next game.

We cant play 5 at the back without Vlaar, Lowton got totally exposed playing there. Although, I wish we would go to 4 at the back with Lowton back at RB.

I really hope we put in a good performance against Fulham and build on this result, but we have to work on keeping possession of the ball. 23% is pitiful against any opposition.

I watched the game kozak and gabby were feeding on scraps hard 2 hold the ball up when they were 5 feet above there head, yes lambert was about 2 remove kozak but the one cross which gave him a chance he scored from

u can’t judge strikers on closing down and chancing lost causes, both of um gave 100% and both scored with very little services

Nath, I agree that they were working on scraps, but no doubt about it, Benteke is much better at holding the ball up in those situations. People saying that we played better without him is nonsense.

Kozak took his goal well, but he didnt show anything that says he should start over Benteke.

Last season Benteke went for everything, this season he sits and waits, that is the difference and that is why i dont feel he should get in the team. Whilst he was injured or has been on the subs bench we have had better results. its an opinion if it varies from your it is not wrong

I think benteke is by far the better all round striker but I think lambert made a decision 2 drop him and start with kozak, to get a response from benteke , kozak will improve more he plays looks like if we can play 2 his strengths which is 2 get decent crosses in he gonna score loads,

At this moment in time I believe the teams works better without Benteke he just does not look as up for it as last season, the counter attack tactics worked. When i said we play better i did not mean technically, i meant when benteke is on the pitch we seem to give the ball away loads.

Bentek is a much better all around player but has he been found out, last season he looked really up for the ball this season not as much, whether that is attitude, tactics opposition counter tactics to manage him i dont know
