Someone on talk sport just said that if we went down we deserve it anyway as we are only paying championship wages to championship players anyway and not doing anything in the prem anyway. Also said at least we have a chance of winning promotion. Hard to disagree this is really bad IMO.

And can you argue with that? Look Oohah you of all people shouldn’t be accepting this line from Lambert, just another down grading of expectations.
No chance of the league, the cup(s) are an unfortunate inconvenience, where is it going to end?

A guy… On talk sport… And you’re going to agree? Scares me the most.

We’re not getting relegated, and the players we have are better than Championship players, poorly managed.
We should also be going for the cup, though I’d love to see younger players getting the chance. Stieber, Gardner (who hopefully gets a new contract), Donacien should at least be getting a look.

They have £10 for the lwr N Stand, £15 Holte + £5 for the kids but that’s not the point, if Lambert aint bothered why should we be even for £2?

I’d like the FA Cup. In-fact I like every single cup competition.

I reckon it gives you a good chance to analyse some of your players. Lambert give Helenius a chance to impress, I reckon he’ll be the ideal replacement for Kozak.

Also Gardner’s and Albrighton’s contract is expiring soon so give them a chance to impress against Sheffield United.

It just makes more sense to play a weakened team against League One and League Two sides, but play a stronger team against Championship and Premier League oppositions.

As I mentioned before, Vlaar and Okore are out. Benteke is only just getting going again but still looked a bit uneasy and off the pace against Sunderland. Kozak is out. The match tomorrow is surely a prime candidate for the likes of Helenius, Gardner, Steer, Donacien and co to get out there and make a case for themselves. We’ll find out tomorrow what Lambert has in mind but do you really think he’s going to set out to lose? What should the club do, play the first team and hope no one gets injured against a team presumably looking to take us down? Realistically we’re in a precarious place, just about surviving with crap football on display. If the majority of the first team plays it will surely be the same as the cup games we lost last season with the opposition hanging back and our players passing sideways or back to Guzan rather than try to move the ball forward. I’d much rather he rested the majority of the first team and let a few of them play (maybe Luna, Lowton, Clark or Baker, Alrbighton, Westwood or Delph) and mixed in players from the reserves.

But that’s avoiding the point of this thread which is a fairly spiteful whinge about people who it seems want to continue seeing Villa in the PL. I’m pretty sure we’d all like to see Villa win things (apart from Terry, who just wants to have a go at ‘Lamberk’s Lemmings’, whoever they are) but realistically we’re currently crap and there’s more important stuff going on.

It’s good there are some old fogies like you around to keep us ‘Sky’ kids on the straight and narrow. I don’t think there are many people who like what’s going on with the club at the moment but it’s always good when we turn on each other isn’t it?

I’m an old fogie foxy but still can’t get excited about tge cup. Even when we were in semi v Chelsea a few years ago I couldn’t be arsed tbh. The only thing about fa cup is the excitement of the draw other than I can’t be arsed.

That’s because all three have tough premier opposition. Also wengar and moyes will be desperate for silverware as unlikely they will win the league or CL final.

Fucking mad! Piss off and watch the ‘noses, they aren’t on fucking Sky and they will take the precious FA Cup oh so seriously because it’s Bill Pearson’s fucking family heirloom. I cant make it to the third round tie simply because its too close to Xmas, i also have a birthday this month for one of my children. Last year i remember a few ST holders who sat near me failed to make it to the third round game because they simply could not afford it so close to Christmas.

Is there an argument to shift the tie back into December or further into February would this fill the stadiums as it is very expensive time of year for most families

“But the younger generation brought up on Sky football and CL midweek matches don’t care much for it.”…. yet the more they ‘suffer’ watching it, the more they will become the ‘older generation’ and appreciate the FA Cup. Null story, IMHO (see, I’m 42 AND younger generation)

Have to disagree with you there QM.

I think that the FA Cup has lost almost all lustre that it once had, and it won’t be recovered.

The point I was making was that the FA Cup was a limited opportunity to see a live football match on TV and the buzz around the week of the final was tremendous.

With a dozen or so live matches or more per week now, the FA Cup seems to have become irrelevant to many.
