I’ve signed it. Yesterday was the last straw, we did nothing of improvements from the game before.

I am convinced we have the players just not the right managerial approach or stratagy,

Tom Fox will listen to the fans, but he will also want to keep stability within the club, and as he is in control of the financials will not want to loose the millions if relegation is about to happen.

My Old Man Said they “heard” rumours Villa are looking to get a director of football in. Who would do all contracts and signings of players, leaving Lambert who seems safe as of now more time on the training pitch. Seems Lambert has full control over the football side of things at Villa and Fox is trying to change that. Be good to see Lambert out of control of everything football at Villa and does show how inept he is not just on the pitch, but off it as well.

honestly lads, I am glad there is this much vocal dissent making its way to villa park, If it doesn’t result in Lambert sacking which would make a lot of villa dans happy ( at least in the short term until they realise the next manager is the same calibre possibly worse, but with the same resources available to him) SoI still can’t see an alternative to Lambert with our current structure, chairman, spend, we will just end up like west brom etc chopping and changing to no great effect, It might give us a boost in the short term, the new manager feel. The director of football idea greatly appeals to me.
I think of Southampton and how well it worked, then of course there is the example of newcastle where it didn’t, but as long a we are trying something different.

hopefully the backlash from fans results in something positive for Villa

Colonius81 ,you all keep saying what’s the alternative, the alternative is plain, anything is better than what we have, for starters change of direction, 2nd different approach to what fans pay for, a club to be proud of , should I go on,? do you think we have the right guy at the club? No he should have not taken the club on being ask to work on a shoe string. He has no fucking idea of football what so ever, and no excuse to be Aston Villa manager.I for one would ideally kick the twat up the arse for what he has done, his coaching staff are as much to blame. Cheap dregs want to be coaching people.

        please do go on!

So the alternative to Lambert is .. a change of direction, a different approach, establish pride again in the club ..Can you elaborate on how that would be achieved? .. that is all very desirable and what I would want to see too! .. …how exactly do you got about getting all those to be honest nice but really vague ideas ? don’t say fire lambert and let the chips fall where they may, because thats just frustration and fan passion its not a real world solution. Who do you think would come in to replace him? what approach would they have? where do you think Villa would end up under that coach/ team, how much more do you think this squad can achieve. Don’t get me wrong Lambert is in a brutal run and the teams performances are dire It needs to improve but I can’t see how firing Lambert and taking a punt ( with the same chairman that hired Lambert and that underfunded or funded the wrong purchases under Lambert which ever way you want to call it) will achieve that any sooner than sticking with Lambert.
I am tired of this bollox relegation fight status year on year too. but I just haven’t been convinced by the fire Lambert first then see what happens approach being the answer.
Have we not tried that before .. what if the next manager is worse? ( bear in mind what great coach up and coming coach would want to take the Villa job?)
If Lerner is as loyal to Lambert as he to the next guy .. are you ready for Lambert 2.0 but with the clock reset?

I don’t know .. give me a name for his replacement and I would think about signing that petition.

Its plain to most and even with you agony of 4 year’s is not what us Villa fans want, but I do say he’s got to go and now for me, I can see that that’s not your way but he took a job that was dead from day one, even you can see with some of his team selection made us think what the hells doing. Just off topic anyone watch saints beat Utd. What a fantastic defendive, professional perornance by a tesm that sold all its best plsyers v a £200m plus tesm. I know we cant compete with city etc but surely thats a blueprint for all clubs outside the top 4 of how to manage a team properly. Surely for us to be the new saints is within our remit. Utd had nearly £300m of players and didn’t get one shot on target Ffs

The Utd performance was very like Villa. Lot’s of possession with very little threat. They have class players where we don’t as well. For them, despite their problems, it’s more of a rarity. For us it’s the norm. We have the wrong manager. With the right manager we would be a good deal better even with the existing team/squad. However, how many “right” managers has Lerner appointed? Maybe with Fox instead of Faulkner we might. i have little faith though and certainly suspect that the “right” manager wouldn’t be interested without the promise of backing in the transfer market.

Too right Oohah. [BTW I’ve just signed the petition, thanks to all who got it up and running.] You can say what you like about the depths to which Villa have fallen off the pitch, but you would have a hard job to convince anybody that Villa have a smaller fan-base than Saints, we have a bigger stadium and catchment area. Between Seasons our owner wanted to sell the whole club and failed. The Saints owner insisted they sell all their big-value players and succeeded. So you can make the case that both teams started this season with a lot to prove. What is the difference? Kouman v Lambert.

He’ll need 6 months to settle in by which time we’ll be in the Championship.
He’s got no chance – in Spain you get 10mins before someone comes to tackle you whereas here, your lucky if you get 10secs.
They should use that money to get rid of that “manager” instead.

You are right Colonius but the point you are ignoring is that Villa are not really improving under Lambert. We should be in a better position than we are now, even allowing for Lerner’s cost cutting. A better manager/tactician would be able to get the team playing better football. That is the minimum fans want. I agree that change doesn’t guarantee success, and the underlying cutting back on investment with a no longer committed owner would not change. I am like most other fans in that I don’t have the answer. It doesn’t mean I and others can’t ask the question though.

Things need to change, and I can’t see any reason to trust Lambert to deliver that. As it stands, it just looks like Lerner is happy to sit back until a buyer finally comes along, while the fans have to suffer watching rubbish week in week out with no real prospect of things improving.

The interesting debate is, “who should replace Lambert, and would he take the job?”

i think Colonius81 holds on to the points, can lerner finally land a manger at his 3rd or 4th attempts. or if he could identify the right …. candidate, could he persuade him to come to villa? bare in mind … no money…low wage budgets…lots of decent managers turned villa down before lambert…what where their reasons ????

change does need to happen because this club has a stench of relegation about it, current manager has no answers to regain the crowd confidence, if he ever had it to start with.

any1 believes the players aren’t to blame is also dreaming. we have too many average players, guzan has come out and said, players should be held responsible and i totally agree with that, too many are in a comfort zone. funny how we never get offers for any of them, benteke aside the rest of um need to look in the mirror and realize fans are paying their wages, so they should at least break into a sweat. seems the owner and players have been hiding behind the manager

have we signed anybody else YET 🙂

p.s if we could kidnap cloughie junior or beg mclaron for forgiveness i would be into that. any thoughts of who and would they be up 4 it

thats just not true Ooh ahh, we can do worse or as is more likely the exact same. but with the cost of another manager golden handshake to further reduce our meagre transfer funds.
And lets face it if we are worse off as you believe than where we were before lambert came, and so we received many refusals from managers at that point, What chance have we now of recruiting the manager we want/need?
I am also following the newcastle manager race, and I hear ya, some of the names ( remi grade!) sound exciting and you would have to wonder why they would go to newcastle over us, what have they got? and to be honest a better transfer policy, better recruitment, bigger stadium and in the last few years better league position (which wouldn’t be hard) their chairman is a joke and taints the club from top to bottom but if you were a younger european coach hoping to get to the premier league .. on paper at least Newcastle are probably more enticing. for shame .. (no offence to NUfc fans, they are great fans and have endured a lot. I just mean that in terms how much of a dick their chairman is and yet ours could be an even bigger reason to prevent a decent manager coming to Villa)

Interesting national vote on BBC web site on clubs to be relegated this term. Villa third favourites behind Leicester and QPR (both of which have beaten us already). Those two odds on, Villa 10.3%, fourth favourite Burlnley a whole % point behind. Says it all really……. Oh and I think Lerner’s left it to late to change managers – we should have gone for Pullis. There is no point bringing in another ‘up and coming’ young manager with no prem experience at this stage in the season – we’ll have to do that next year when we are in the Championship.

The club has been disappointed with this season’s results, performances and the general message these have sent to our fans. The board wishes to assure supporters that we are conscious in every sense that Villa expects and deserves more and we will strive to deliver this.

Villa chairman Randy Lerner said: “We need to be clear and candid with ourselves and with supporters about what we have lacked in recent years.

“Compelling play and results that instil a sense of confidence that Villa is on the right track have been plainly absent.

“The most immediate action that we can take is to look carefully at our options in terms of bringing in a new manager who sees the club’s potential and embraces our collective expectations.”

Sorry to get your hopes up – that’s what RL said in 2012 before bringing in Lambert. However when he fires him, he won’t need a new speech, will he?
