Reading – Villa; Not at all confident

The games are coming thick and fast aren’t they?
Which is exactly what we could have done without at the moment as Steve Bruce is hardly going to get any time to go through tactics, let alone get some proper fitness training in.
If lack of fitness is the issue, that is.
I saw an argument yesterday that basically said the lack of fitness argument was a poor one that’s often been used by managers at the Villa. Now that may well be true, but Bruce said it’s “blatantly obvious” and didn’t beat about the bush when he directly pointed the finger at RDM.
Hence I think lack of fitness is to blame, at least partly, in my opinion.

I also think there’s a mental problem too, but that’s not all, because I think there’s some other intangible issues too.
We’ve changed the owner for a better one and we’ve spent loads of money on new players. But managers who get sacked for us don’t tend to get decent jobs afterwards and after that performance against Wolves we seem to ruin players.
I said in the replies it’s almost like we’re cursed.
Whatever can go wrong invariably does.

Which all in all is why I have no faith whatsoever that we’re going to get a point tonight. In fact I think we’re going to be doing well if we can keep the difference down to two goals.

The sadder part is while I think Bruce is the man to sort us out, I think it’s going to take a good while longer than I thought.
Which for me means we’ve no chance of automatic promotion or even a playoff place.
A good few of you will probably say you’ve thought that for a while, but I always at least try to stay positive and hopeful, which is why it’s taken so long to dawn on me.

So there you go then, a comfortable win for the home team and another poor showing for the over four thousand Villa fans who will be making the trip.
How they keep turning out for such little reward is beyond me.

Reading to win 2-0

Oh, by the way, I strongly recommend you have a read of this article. It’s unrelated to the game but is a brilliant indictment of the Premier league, in my opinion;

  1. Missed penalty Reading……………..could it be our night??

STEVIE BRUCES CLARET N BLUE ARMY

  2. Reading Pen
    Cissokho flys in.
    Fucks sake!
Just as the Villa fans were urging us to go for it.
Gollini saves but it gets nodded in.
    Villa players didn’t react.

    Shit

    1-1

  3. Hope cissokho breaks his leg he’s fucking bollocks how he gets in over Amavi is unbelievable! Gives so many stupid niggly fouls away then has a tantrum at the ref, fuck off Aly!

      1. Makes you wonder doesn’t it?
Amavi isn’t a great defender though.
        Mind you…….

        1. Yes not amazing but is very young so still loads to learn, and at least has more pace to cover for mistakes. Cissokho is slow, clumsy and shit, he can’t defend and can’t attack and is meant to be experienced! Pointless player.

  4. Interesting to see what Bruce does now. We have Ayew and McCormack on the bench. Will he go for three points or play for a draw?

  5. Ping pong in their area, but good defending from Reading.

This isn’t over yet by a long shot (personal opinion)

  6. Hutton stood watching! Why does every manager we have pick him, he is complete waste of space!

  7. Can’t believe we have Hutton and Bacuna in the same side! Get Ayew on for half on hour. We need to score because we’re bound to concede again!

  8. We have decent options on the bench, is a plus.
Coms saying Bruce probably won’t want to change it.
Overall attitude seems that we’re doing ok.

  9. Bacuna shot lacks power and straight at the goalie.
Sounds like this is really opening up now.

  10. Dr X needs to splash another 50 mil in the window to give us any chance of staying up, let alone going up!

    1. This actually sounds quite decent Bencey, in fairness.
Although I get your point; a draw isn’t good enough.

  11. Its incredible that we still have Cissokho and Hutton at full backs. Easily two of the worst players I have seen at Villa in 20 years!

  12. Kodjia slices a good chance.
    Ayew coming on,I think.
Villa looking more likely to get the goal atm.

  13. Positive subs. Let’s hope this manager keeps his nerve. Too many have gone more and more defensive. We need to keep going for wins.

    1. Tbh, DS, I reckon it’s more about fresh legs.
Reading corner and the coms talking about jittery time.

      1. Sure but he could have brought Tsch on for example. A more attacking option at fullback plus a forward is probably brave enough in the circumstances.

        1. can’t argue, DS 🙂
Like I said, I reckon he wants to see the players as much as poss.
