Re-brand a football club – f*!k yes

Today, Hull (owner Assem Allam) announced that they were rebranding the club “Hull City Tigers” and it struck me we could have some fun here.
I love the fact that he says “… City is irrelevant. My dislike for the word ‘City’ is because it is common….It is about identity. City is a lousy identity”. So true, take note Small Heath. Wait a minute, there’s a rebrand option for the scum already, Scum City – there’s another one.
He goes on “City is also associated with Leicester, Bristol, Manchester and many other clubs. I don’t like being like everyone else. I want the club to be special”. Well you can’t get more special than Aston Villa, totally unique with history that should never be wiped away by some marketing guru.
So what new club names might we have for clubs out there? The more derogatory the better.
Arsenal – No Where to Fucking Park FC
Liverpool – Job Centre Plus
Sunderland – Mussolini’s SS
West Ham – Ann Summers 11
I’m sure there is better out there. Let’s have some fun.

yeh a couple of defensive errors, can’t blame okore for the og mate, Luna was out of position for it to happen and Vlaar earlier in the game let a through ball go by him, very complacent, would like to see okore and baker as out ch pairing tbh

OG always seem to happen to us. Though glad he’s done it in a friendly and got it out if his system. I think vlaar and Luna are a liability. Luna is not the answer to left back problem and as for vlaar enough said. We have to to start with baker and okore but I havnt a clue who left bk shud be as they are all shite. Lambert just hasn’t got a clue defensively he’s had a whole year now and defence is as bad as ever

To be fair we have a looked a lot more solid since the appointment of the nex coaches so maybe there addressing it. It’s not a secret we were terrible last season defesively and Lambert will know that so I think he has the coaches on it.

I’ve said many times that this is the season for Vlaar to show if he’s got what it takes, I’m not sure he has, his positioning is constantly in question. I reckon Luna can be decent for us mate, he’s not that bad imo.

Hope so md8. Got to give Luna 10 games or so to judge but I’m not convinced wev traded up from Bennett tbh. If vlaar can’t get his positioning right at 28yrs old he never will. Iv seen Sunday league players position themselves better than vlaar and even thou everyone says he’s had to look after the youngsters I’m beginning to feel like its the other way round.

I’m beginning to think the same about vlaar too mate, after all this time, it could turn out he’s been the weakest link all along. I was surprised PL kept Clarke, who i’m not a fan of at all, but if he’s seen that vlaar can’t cut we need someone other than okore and baker

Agreed md8. The only thing with Clarke is he is half decent in midfield and still young enough to improve. With vlaar being out of position and making constant errors I think that has rubbed of on the youngsters. They would be looking to him to lead by example and to steady them and teach them. But he’s done none of that and I think he is the reason the youngsters panic IMO

the closing down on the edge of the area for their second goal was non-existent, it is a problem but for me that’s not the main issue is that we just haven’t looked the same this second half, maybe a tactical change from PL, playing counter attack? it soesnt suit us, when we pressure and control the game we look deadly, when we sit back its a big problem

One of the reasons we struggled last season was an inability to hold on to a lead. If we had held on to half our leads we would have been top 10 last year. The amount of leads we threw away last year was criminal especially in the last 10 mins. What odds would you get next week of us going 2-3 goals up in half an hr v arsenal and still losing or drawing with them banging 2 in the last 10 mins. It wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Could never bet against a 3-3 with the villa but that was the same under MON, we always seem to concede late goals, the defence needs a lot of work that’s for sure but its ooh ah constantly calling Lambert, the players and the club in general a joke that really gets me, the club is moving forward Lambert is the main reason for that and i will never call villa a joke or a disgrace or give so much abuse to our own players just because they are out of form or make a few mistakes, support the team or follow stoke or somethin if you love defending so much!

Iv only called the defence a joke not the rest of the team. And any defence that lets 8 goals in in one match is is simply not a good defence simples. As for MON I’m no fan of his but he did have us defending better as a team and we never conceded the same amount of goals as we do now. The defence is a joke bottom 3 defence last season Shoukd I be saying what a great defence wev got then.

I’m really liking the look of Luna, Vlaar played well today and Okore also looks good. The midfield is getting better too, which is going to help the defence, the rebuild is working, albeit slowly. Of course I’m positive and like to think the team is going to improve season by season, plus I want to wait to see how we play in the league (remembering that we start with three tough matches and the team needs to get up to full fitness, most of the players not having played a full 90 minutes) before properly slating half the team. Hopefully though some of the players like Benteke etc can improve even more so we can sell them off for a whopping profit for Lerner while just about clinging on by our teeth to the bottom of the PL.

Backing of in games especially in away games when we are leading has to stop. We try to defend deep and its been like that the past few seasons but getting worse now. When we are ahead with 10 mins left lets go forwards and not panic for once

The only good thing about playing arsenal is they Havnt the best defence either thou not as bad as ours. Where they differ thou is that they can keep possesiin for long periods of the game which takes the sting out if attacks and relieved pressure on their defence.

We may have come close to a sell out as we did not open all areas of the ground, so the capacity was not 42,500 today, for example the Trinity upper was closed and blocks in other stands. I believe it was reduced to under 25,000 so they only lined up ground staff (stewards, catering, turnstile staff, St Johns Ambulance etc) for that figure. I could not attend today but I don’t believe they had any police neither to save the WMPF bill so it may have been a reduced capacity ‘sell out’ agreed with local authorities.

Typical pre-season friendly, no high tempo and several things have to improve. What would we do without Benteke. Don´t want to think about it. New acquisitions: Okore needs more games to improve understanding with our defence, Luna looks encouraging in going forward, Tonev shows some good signs but has to stop shooting from 40yds and has to improve his corners (overhit to many). Was surprised that Westwood didn´t start, would give him a starting place anytime.
First 3 games will be really though, would be satisfied with 2-3 pts from these game.

I liked the look of Helenius too, he made some very smart passes and could be a good substitute late on in the game when one of the forwards starts to lag. Wiemann didn’t seem to get into the game today, were he firing on all cylinders I suspect the score would have been higher. I would start with Westwood in midfield rather than El Ahmadi, possibly with Sylla rather than Delph, although I do like Delph and can see us playing more games with those three in the middle (Sylla, Westwood, Delph). Vlaar looked good though, I think this partnership with Okore is going to work and Luna is looking like a very good signing.
