Premier league popularity vote; guess where we came?

The Trinity Mirror Data unit have run a survey asking fans to vote for their favourite second club.

It was no surprise to me that Swansea topped the table. They’re well run and play footy the way it should be played.

It surprised me that the boggies came second though. I wondered why, but wasn’t massively bothered.

So I moved down the table, wondering where we were.

Imagine my dismay when I find that we’re fifth from bottom 🙁

So then I really started to ask why it is that people rate us so low.

I’ve explained why I think Swansea are so well liked, so then I looked at Albion and thought “well they like to play decent footy and aren’t really a major threat”.

A decent theory, I thought. Certainly the second part of my theory is backed up by the fact that the likes of Norwich, Southampton and Hull are well up there, although you could say Everton might be an exception to that theory.

Looking at the bottom of the table, Chelsea finished lowest.

The reasons are obvious. They’re seen as the club that ruined the game and they change their manager at the drop of a hat.

No argument from me on that one.

Second bottom? Man United.

Also understandable. They’ve won far more than is healthy for the game over the last 20 years and are by far the biggest British club.

Jealous? Of course I am and I detest them.

And then third bottom, Stoke. Anti-football, enough said. Although I’d suggest their fans are much more appreciated.

Next are Liverpool. Deluded fans and a history over the last forty years or more that has to make you feel jealous too.

And then us.

What have we done, that makes us so unpopular?

We certainly aren’t a threat to anyone at the moment and we haven’t won much for years, sadly.

Yes, we have a rep as fickle fans (thanks DOL, you tool).

But whenever any neutrals come on the blog, they often cite that they quite like us.

So I’m confused.

I suspect the main reason is that we’re a big club that have been poor lately and some would just like us to fail, the same way that many Villa fans took delight in Newcastle getting relegated.

I’d appreciate any thoughts on this.

most ‘football fans’ like villa in my experience if only because when traveling to the game its a piece of piss, train, new street, villa park, job done wherever you are in the country, easier than Manchester to London or Southampton or London to Newcastle and so on.
we do have a rep for being very loud and noisey away from home but most home supporters enjoy a bit of competition and banter.
as for the team, I cant really see why we’re so low, I can only guess they held the survey in the west mids coz everybody in the west mids hates us.
    bitterness is so unattractive 😉
