Yesterday was the final game in Aston Villa’s training camp in Germany. Paul Lambert’s man faced German side Bochum in which they were held to another 1-1 draw. On the bright side the team is still undefeated. It was new signing Helenius who again scored for Aston Villa, playing in the second half it didn’t take him long to score his second goal for the club. Helenius scored with a close range header, the cross was supplied by another new signing, Bacuna. However towards the end of the game, Japanese Tasaka scored past Steer and made it 1-1.
Albrighton and Bacuna also had chances to score yet were denied by keeper Luthe. It was Bacuna who had his most lively performance, creating a lot of opportunities. Additionally Baker had been one of more commanding defenders throughout the season-preseason tour. However, I can’t say I’ve been too impressed with new keeper Steer, conceding all the goals throughout the friendlies. I am a fan of Siegrist and I’m very disappointed he isn’t given a chance.
Overall, this season tour was more about fitness; we fans should not get worried about the results quite yet. We have a domestic friendly against Wycombe and I believe that would be a better indication of our teams quality.
Villa first half (4-3-3): Guzan, Lowton, Herd, Clark, Luna; El Ahmadi, Westwood, Delph; Burke, Weimann, Carruthers.
Villa second half (4-4-2): Steer, Webb, Vlaar, Baker, Bennett; Bacuna, Sylla, Gardner Albrighton; Helenius, Bowery.
I’m really looking forward to the match on Saturday, hopefully we’ll see more of a formed first 11 playing and not two different squads. Could our attack look like Gabby or Tonev on left, Bacuna on right and Wiemann behind Helenius/Benteke? I have to say I would prefer Wiemann to be taking a more central role and with his energy and creativity I wonder if he’s the man to fill that hole Ireland and N’Zog should have been playing in?

£25million in cash is ok. Shame he insisted on going but hopefully Lambert can do something interesting with the money. Maybe we already have our 20 goals per season in Helenius, Sylla, Bacuna, Tonev and Gardner, with Gabby and Wiemann banging in even more than they did last season. If we get in another striker it could be interesting…
JD if true OK by me, we need to have team players and not wantaway people,looking at what we have a hard defensive player would not go amiss. One in that CB line to tighten up our defence, looking good so far,few weeks ago we had sod all roll on them games. What could 25 million do for the club now. 🙂

The worst way to look at it is that with a £17million profit (ignoring wages) and goals helping out last season (I really believe that had Benteke not been at the club Wiemann and Bent would have covered and we’d have still stayed up) even if Lambert doesn’t get to spend any of the money Benteke has paid off Bent and the season(s) he kept us up, and now the club is in a miles better position. £17million profit. That’s amazing. If of course it’s happened.
Need to def ADD to quality players players.. a striker and a creative midfielder..
I know it’s for fitness and all that, but why for fucks sake do we keep shipping goals. haven’t we learnt anything from last season?

I completely agree about Steer – Siegrist. Nothing against Steer, it’s still early days, but Siegrist should at the very least be given a chance to prove himself. At the moment he can’t do much worse than Steer and we have nothing to lose. Competition to be the 2nd string GK can only bring good things.
I heard Steer was pretty good in the second game. Bacuna and Luna are ooking good, and I think Gardener will come good this year. Stop worrying about victories these games are a chance for the team o gel and trial tactics. Benteke will go and hopefully a couple of new additions and pay off Hutton and given
